  • Glad the remake did not take off. There can only be four Monkees!

  • Rest in peace dear Davy, I had such a major crush on you. Love the '80s mullet, but that was the style at the time. I wish I had seen them live in concert in the '80s and for their 40th reunion. All of the guys were so funny in this interview and in their show. I loved watching the show back in the '60s, much to my parent's chagrin. A part of my childhood died with Davy. RIP

Thank you for sharing this video verena71.

  • No need for the nasty comments about the New Monkees. Two of those guys are great friends of mine. I will miss Davy as much as any Monkees fan. RIP Davy!

  • I HATED The new monkees with a passion at 8-9 years old! I was so insulted because the real monkees never really retired or went away and then they wanted to get these new UGLY dorks to replace them?! If I could say it at 9 in my house and that term was about then I'd have said Ooooh hell no! Sadly we are missing Davy, I loved all of them but was mostly going back and forth with davy or micky daily to this day.

  • Do you know the exact air date of this Today interview? Thanks!

  • The 1986 comeback. It was amazing !!

  • And they did come back for the 45 year anniversary ! ;)

  • Watching Micky Dolenz crack up like that makes me all shades of happy. :)

  • How ironic - in the MTV interview they joked about their 40th Reunion tour and they're actually doing it!! Hurray!

  • I still have this interview on a video. I also have them on Sally Jesse Rafael. Too bad I'm not too computer savvy, I'd upload it for everyone to see!

  • the Monkees are so funny, and Micky cracks me up in this one with his laughter. They are still awesome after all these years!

  • I couldn't stop laughing at Micky! that was sooo funny!

  • Well, if you don't like The Monkees why would you look them up in the first place? And why would you comment on this video as I can see you're not a 60's or 70's fan. The Monkees were nothing like The Beatles if you have ever listened to The Beatles. So please don't leave rude comments on a video that someone worked hard to post for ALL The Monkees fans.

    JUDE

    OMD

  • Please DO NOT comment on things you know nothing about. Why don't you exercise your brain and do the research and then form an opinion from there. The only thing you have proven once again is that ignorance equals stupidity.

  • @crazyhippiekiller You dumbfuck. First of all. They were chosen to imitate the beatles by the beatles.Yes, The beatles looked for 4 guys.Second of all. They did NOT copy their looks. And all of there songs are good faggot. and yes they ARE funny and Micky is not obnoxious hes just sexyx and your jealous.I bet you went to comment on Rebecca black 'shes sexy why does everyone hate her?' go die. You just got told off by someone probably younger. Or are you 5 ? Faggot I hope you die.

  • I'm waiting for the "New Beatles" and the "New Stones"... come on...it WAS idiotic...

  • I loved Davy as a kid...in fact, I made a pact with my best friend: I was going to grow up & marry Davy Jones, & she was going to marry an Englishman. Well...years pass, we meet up again with our 1st-borns, & OMG!!! My husbands' birth certificate was....David L. Jones. And she married an Aussie. I mean, how close can you really come to a pact made in 4th grade? (I got too tall to marry Davy of the Monkees, anyway! lol) We were hard-core fans!!! Thanx for the vid!

  • the monkees definately belong in the R&R hall of fame ----and the idea of someone putting together a new monkees show back in the 80s was a really bad idea so I totally agree with them and yes maybe they we're a little disrtespectful about it but come on man -it was a crappy idea

  • I used to have this on videotape and watched it over and over. Thanks for sharing this. I love it still! Jane is so cracking up.

  • I'm sure they're on something here...

  • I saw them in concert in 1986 with my mother and my aunt! I love them!

  • im under the age of 30!!! I LOOOVE THE MONKEES!!!! im 17 and proud to have been listening to them since i was born!! :)

  • Jane said it was 20 years later so it was

    1986.

  • Oh my god! Davey's Voice sounds exactly the same!

I almost don't want to wacth this, but since I've finished watching all the episodes on dvd... and HEAD... too bad Mike didn't do appearances... he was my favorite monkee

  • Mike Nesmith didn't need the money. His mother invented liquid paper & he inherited that fortune.

  • GOD thats SOOOO 80's!!! i love it, :D

  • i kept waiting for an "Isnt That Dumb?" from micky.

  • little known fact:

mikey never toured with the monkees and did the TV appearance like this one because he didnt need money. his mother invented White-out.

    im not kidding.

  • this makes me depressed! Don't they know they still have a fiery fan base for the monkees now! Why don't they do a 40 yr ann. reunion. I doubt they'll all be ABLE to come the 50 year!

  • @8CaptainJackSparrow8 Im sure they can go 5 more years :) Im sure they can go over 5

  • what year is this?

  • Dude she was pissin' me off.. Let the Monkees talk. It seemed to me like she was treating them as kids. "my turn" *shakes head*

  • Nope, all straight, all married, divorced, remarried, etc..

  • u probley r though

  • yes I am --- I also LOVE the monkees i think they are amazing... xx

  • LOL at Micky falling on the floor laughing! Jane Pauley can hardly control herself--she cracking up so bad-- obviously she got the joke-- but I didn't. She asked (about the Bew Monkees) "Does somebody think it was the concept and not your personalities?" ANd Micky's response: "Yeah, and we know who you are, and you're an idiot" And then all the laughing. SO WHO is this mysterious idiot he's refering to? Thanks for posting this!

  • I don't think they actually know who they are I think it's just Micky being his goofy self.

  • it was most likely one of the guys from raybert.

    lol

  • I think you're right, Sen. When I was a kid I thought maybe they meant Mike!

  • Why is Jane Pauley unusually rude to them?

  • Actually this isn't the whole interview. There was a little more that got cut off. I think she was just goofing around with them

  • It's amazing how fast time goes by. Mickey was talking about "the 40 year anniversary", which has come and gone some two years ago. LOL!

  • 1986

  • What year was this?

  • Peter was gorgeous in the 60's, gorgeous in the 80's, and...yes, I'd do him without protest now. So darn good looking. I love his dimples.

  • You got it. Agreed on all counts.

  • He has aged very well. He was the oldest one on the show and hands down the best looking one now.

  • No, Mike's the oldest. Peter is a year younger than him and Davy and Mickey were 3 years younger than him.

  • Sorry, no. Peter is the oldest. He was born in 1942, and then Mike. It was changedto make Mike appear to be older and the leader of the group.

  • @SueWNY Mikes younger than peter. Right now hes 68 and Peter is 69.

  • Glad to see Peter hasnt lost his enthusiasm xD lol

  • awesome clip peter's so funny ;D

  • Separated at birth: Mickey Dolenz and Eddie Van Halen...or maybe they're just cousins a few times removed.

  • Gosh, you're right.

  • Jane Pauley was VERY pregnant at the time(hence the wardrobe choice).Notice toward the end when she's laughing hystericaly, Davey(i believe, says "Don't make her laugh too much otherwise we'll all be rolling our sleeves up"... *PS Mickey D. had a GREAT rock voice!

  • Hard to believe I was a teenager in high school back when they had their 20th anniversary. Now I'm almost the age they were in this clip :-) Time flies when your a monkee fan!!! Thanks for the flashback!!

  • My mom had their album on vinyl! That's how I was introduce to the Monkees. Unfornately, I wore the album out so bad that it scratch and would not play without skipping! I saw the show in re-runs in the 80's!

  • I love this! What year is it??? Jane Pauley is dressed like one of the Texas Polygamy wives, cute as a button! Love this whole video.

  • 1986

  • The Texas Polygamy Wives liked this interview so much they decided to emulate Jane.

    Who wouldn't?

  • I imagine you're right!!! LOL

  • what year was this in?

  • When they were joking around about the 40 year anniversary, I couldn't stop laughing. I actually was laughing so hard I started crying

  • whoa check out davy's hair!

  • Man!! This brings back memories of when I recorded this show. Unfortunately I lent many of my Monkees VHS tapes to a guy in St Louis who did not return them. Thank you Internet and youtube!!

  • Thanks for posting the full version of the Monkees on the Today show. It seems to cut off before the end and when the MTV video comes on.

Do you have any more than what's shown, or is that it?

  • Unfortunately no. My mom recorded this for me since I was in school at the time. Sorry./=)

  • "We know who it is...and you're SUCH an idiot!" GOD, I love Micky. :)

  • Mickey was right on - it wasn't the concept, it was the chemistry. There could never be another Monkees. And after another 20 years, they are still great! Been a fan for over 40 years!

  • Why in the world does the camera person focus on everyone but Peter!!!!! I love Pete. Damn it, Pete's the coolest, they should show more of him!

  • Oh yes, not that I don't appreciate this interview. It was funny. XD Thanks for posting it. :D

  • Seriously, Peter always gets over looked... I think it's because he isn't as loud and demanding.

  • I was 7 years old when Monkees was on T-V.I'am 48 now every time I see these old shows they still make me laugh.

  • I am also under 30 years old. I would have been 3 years old when this 20-year reunion was going on <=0o

I've loved the Monkees all my life. I used to watch the show in re-runs every afternoon and am still a huge fan. I have their records (well, CDs) and the DVD box-set of the show.

  • WHAT CHEMISTRY! They are so naturally funny! (not to mention super-talented!)

  • "I always wanted to be Peter...!"...hahahahah!

  • No Mike :(

  • I just turned 30, but considering this interview was done some years ago,it's safe to say there are still many fans then, now & in the future not only under 30 but of all ages. Timeless

  • hey im under 30 and i TOTALLY LOVE The Monkees! I have all my life...

  • Micky is beyond hilarious in this i want to who the idiot was

  • The idiot in question was the horse's keister at Columbia who decided that the original Monkees weren't good enough and they just HAD to recast four poor souls to pinch hit for the real thing on television. I remember this around 1987 or so. I didn't even get though one episode, I was so disgusted.

  • i bet these dudes still get laid

  • but of course, she couldn't hold out

  • She was a horrible choice to interview the Monkees. She has a poor sense of humor.

  • I went to the reunion tour in Michigan. Weird Al Yankovic opened for them.. awesome concert.

  • I saw them in 1997-- sans Mike, of course-- and it was just an AWESOME show. We had 8th row Center seats, Davy sang 'Girl' in the audience, and stood on chairs-- ladies groped him, and he accidentally smacked my cousin in the forehead. :D Good times for Monkees Shines!

  • A lot of people aren't aware of it but Mike actually had that dummy sent to the interview himself, no joke.

  • Yes! I was at that same concert. I thought the Grass Roots were there as well. Hermits were good at that show too. I saw the Monkkees some time after that as well and they did a much longer set including some of their more obscure numbers.

  • there better be a forty year anniversary tour, I missed the last time they were in town and that was like seven years ago.

  • Those guys are so funny. Davy is so quite.

  • muito engraçado,é bom vê-los sorrindo!. Brasil!

  • Wonderful!! Simply wonderful!!

  • What happened? She asked them, "So do you play your own instruments" and then it was cut off, hahaha.

  • Unfortunately I don't have the rest of the interview. Sorry.

  • gr8

  • The last question was very funny. They made fun of a possible 40 year reunion and acted like they would be too old. That would have been in 2006 and Davey is currently on tour in 2008 and doing great.

I went to one of their appearances on the 1986 Reunion tour at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles where Mike Nesmith appeared on stage for a couple of songs. It was a great show!

  • Wow i remember this tour, i got to see them and it was my first concert and i was in 7th grade. Jane is really rude to them, she treated them like daft children she was trying to control and insulted them. Mickey is a funny guy but also he takes himself and the music and band very seriously and ive seen him harshly correct someone and borderline tell off an interviewer who had his facts wrong so he was being very nice in not letting her have it but that i would have liked to see.

  • Do you know what year the interview was?

  • I want to say it was 1984ish, it was thier "That was then, this is now" tour and Gary Puckett opened for them.

  • What a hoot! That was funny!

  • Davy....he's still cute even though he had a mullet. And Micky is still funny, even with granny hair.

  • lol...granny hair. He does have granny hair, huh?

  • Yeah...lol but I still cant help loving him!

  • I like this. The only thing bad about it was Jane Pauley being unnecessarily rude to them. Guess she was mad b/c she didn't have the spotlight. What a...

  • Thankyou for putting this on youtube,I love the Monkees.

  • OMG!!! this is awesome!! i'm srry, but Jane Pauley needs to just sit back and let the guys do their thing. they r THE BEST!!! the whole mike dummy and 40th annivarsary thing was hilarrious (sp?) i'm only 12 and they are my role models. take THAT Jane!!

  • those are some sweet outfits

  • I luv the Monkees!

  • Davy looked pissed when she interupted him, to play the clip.

  • "Who's heard of you under thirty?" That's a bit fecking rude, isn't it? I'm 24, and one of the bands my folks raised me on was the Monkees. Call me crazy but, wasn't she infering was that they were dated and obsolete. What a knob!

  • I'm 15, and I adore them!

  • Cool. They're timeless, aren't they?

    X.

  • Most definitly. My four yar old brother likes to watch them too.

  • I love it how Micky keeps a straight face and then just bursts out into random, insane laughter like that...this is absolutely hilarious!

  • That was hilarious! I especially had to laugh out loud when Mike dropped in!

  • I remember watching this when I was home sick with the chicken pox at age 16. I have this on tape somewhere but I'm glad you put it up here so I don't have to look for it.. you rock for putting this up!! Thank you!!

  • I saw Peter in 2006 (40th anniversary) & my friend saw Micky & Davy, also in 2006. Anyway, they're not hobbling & singing like Micky just did. ;D

  • That was hilarious! I love them. Thanks for posting this. I'm under 30 (born in 1992) & have heard of them & love them, do I count? Eh, probably not. I love the MTV bit & the Mike dummy. Micky looks real good, as does Peter. I'm not really digging the mullet on Davy. :P

  • Whadda you mean do you count?? Of course! :D

  • He doesn't have natural curls. His hair was straight. He got a "perm" before the 1967 season.

  • it was natural. He stopped straightining his hair after the first season.

  • Oh, Micky, that hair! Back away from the blow drier... He has natural curls!! Sheesh.

  • HEHEHE! Love it....

  • Jane Pauley is sooooo DORKY, here.

    Out of it ... Ewwww!

  • You rock!

  • Thank you very much for sharing this video with us :)

I love the TODAY SHOW, and, the MTV Monkees Bit, as well.

    Love you!

I think Micky NEVER looked better, actually.
