  • Did Brady just gank that platinum at the end?

  • stil to dis day gold and silver ar stil wayd using thoy scail

  • Few of my favorite youtube personalities in one video! awesome!

  • the prof. seems really exasperated when the other guy talks haha

  • Why was vsause even there? he contributed nothing.

  • @KaslarProductions It's called having a guest you douche...

  • VSAUCE

  • Never tell Brady to cut a segment out of the YouTube video. Meghean learned that one in another video.

  • At today's price one pound of Platinum is worth $24,693.28 (US), £16,784.80, €20,003.36

  • pure awesomeness

  • my two favorite channels

  • Poor guys from the next civilization... They'll have to develop atomic theory, before they'll find out what our measures mean. Of course, if there is next civilization.

  • Vsauce i only got bad shit to say about you

  • Yeah its amazing to think that a fundamental quantity, the kilogram, is still represented as a physical artifact. It's even more amazing to think Australia is actually contributing something useful to science. (Note Brady had to go to the UK to make these videos)

  • I love Michael!!!

  • awesome tie

  • "Just don't put this up on YouTube" was added later. It wasn't there originally.

  • why all scientists have strange hair????

  • before this, I didn't know about vsauce.... my life was miserable, but then I got hooked

    onto vsauce. I LOVE VSAUCE!!!!!

  • I dig the tie

  • Two of my favorite YouTubers

  • WOW.... "And this beautiful brass cillinder, can you see.....

    NO IM FRIKEN BLIND!!!!!!

    lol

    3:02

  • I wonder how many atom equivalents the butcher's thumb is

  • That piece of platinum is worth $17904, today. Give it to me.

  • avagadro constant=6.023*10^23 atoms

just for your knowledge, i remembered this when thinking about my chemistry lesson(mole concept)

  • that's 1 dedicated scientist...says his tie :D

  • I enjoyed this video very much, I especially liked the guy explaining it. :D

  • You might be right in that we won't need the standard units of weight anymore Professor, but I have serious doubts as to whether society would be willing to change their units of measurement every time Science comes up with a slightly better more 'accurate' way of measuring things.

  • @Versudan Agree. The fact that we still use different units of measurement proves your point.

  • Bit awkward at first but awesome all the way. Love vsauce.

  • Hehe, when I saw you opening it up and picking it up at the beginning I was saying "What is he doing?! You can't TOUCH IT!" Glad he explained that bit a minute or so later.

BTW, fellow Americans, let's ignore the government and start using metric everywhere we can! Let it be only the politcians who hold on to this ridiculous relic!

  • @otakucode I like you already. Never understood very well why you guys use Imperial/Standard. I know it may have made sense at some point, but in the present we confuse each other with our different ways of measuring things. Hopefully in the future we all get to use the same, whatever it may be!

  • @kristijan0kroflin but this weight mesurement is the best

one liter of water for example is one kilogramm

    very easy.

  • @LightLink1992 Only at 298K and 101kPa pressure!

  • The whole not touching them thing is hella pretentious. I def see smudges on that platinum.

  • I LOVE VSAUCE AND I LOVE THIS xD!

  • WTF have you seen his tie ? The Elements ^^

  • 6:05 "Well that's a wrap... I'll just take my solid platinum and... RUN! GO! HEAD FOR THE DOOR!"

  • Anyone else notice his tie has the periodic table printed on it 3:33

  • So Brady, that glorified paperweight you pocketed, how much is that much platinum worth?

  • PSE-tie FTW!!!

  • Der Professor. Er führt mit ruhiger Hand in die Welt der Forschung ein.

  • Comment removed

  • "alright, just dont put it on youtube" lol

  • I'm watching a periodic table video, on a channel called periodic videos, that has a guy with a periodic tie.

    Periodception.

  • naahhhhhhh. the kilo is forever my friend :)

  • Brady, leave the precious platinum troy pound!

  • "Just don't put this up on YouTube". Whew, good thing you didn't!

  • @WhiteTiger333 see my vids& learn herbs like kelp, coriander, cayenne, oregon grape root etC :)

  • Periodic Videos AND Vsauce!!! I think I'm gonna faint from excitement!!!!! I think I also died a little bit inside

  • Yeah Vsauce!

  • Thak you for thinking about people, who use metric. Also, somehow I think that that new unit won't be so wide spread.

  • I think that the Vsauce and Vsauce2 audience would be very interested in Perioticvideos, Sixtysymbols and Foodkey channels.

  • Amazing! I'm subscribed to both of these people! What does this mean? I'm scared! (good video)

  • Thumbs up if you like pounds and ounces! SI units should stay with science where they belong. Potatoes don't get weighed in kilograms.

I thought Wellington won at Waterloo, not Napoleon?

  • @ib9rt But they're so... arbitrary. It's ridiculous

  • LOL EPIC quote:

Michael: Maybe you could even subscribe!!!

    The Professor: Perhaps........

  • @JFooBo see my vids & elarn herbs as reishi,rosemary,kelp,dill,dock,goji etC :D

  • @JFooBo see my vids & learn herbs as reishi, rosemary, kelp, dill, dock EtC

  • Scrap value: 18,554.04 USD

    Crikey! That's an expensive paperweight!!!

  • This is so awesome .

  • I live in Mexico and, trying to not being rude but, I hate english measuring system. I don't like that it's not all in 10 base.

  • @TheStrosso It is though. We use metres, grams and litres.

Imperial measurements, although created by England are now defunct in England.

  • I

    WANT

    TO

    TOUCH

    IT!!!!!!!!

  • isn't that the mic from The Graham Norton Show? odd..

  • Oh dayum, solid platinum

  • @HappyYodeler4 It surprised me as well, i expected it to be gaseous.

  • Swiper no swiping!

  • Lol at the end, lets just walk off with a troy pound of platinum.

  • Vsause and periodicvideos!

  • Wouldn't it be a lot easier to define a kilogram as 1/1000 the mass of a cubic metre of H2O at STP? Or is this not accurate enough relative to the current kilogram?

  • @frankjohnson123 Never mind, it's 999.8395 kg/m^3.

  • I find a bit sad and ridiculous that those units are still used nowadays. I hope that at least UK will switch to SI units entirely soon, but they really seem to love unique non standard things (even phone plugs...)

  • Michael + Professor Poliakoff= complete life

  • omg. I WATCH THIS GUY IN SCHOOL! :O AND VSAUCE IS EPIC!

  • I want that tie

  • it is the Doctor Doctor Who?

  • How nice of you to invite WheezyWaiter to London. ;-)

  • lol cool! :D

  • Dumbass

  • combined my favorite people on youtube!

  • awesome tie!

  • i love this professor so much and i wish to be like him one day.

i am a chemist by the way

  • '' Its silicon 28 NOT 29 '' said the guy who ignored the pop ups XD

  • did he just take the troy pound? :P

  • he got captain crunch to be in his video!?

  • Is this right? One Troy pound of platinum is approximately $22,000 US??? OMG

  • i need that tie. i neeeeed it!

  • I love england we make the impirial mesuring system and america is the only major country that still uses it

  • At the moment the price of platinum is 50 026,56 USD for kilogram. So value only of that material is around 18 671 dollars.

  • Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god most awesome Periodic Vsauce video ever :O

  • wow two dislikes lol

  • Awesome Tie!

  • i love the tie of the prof :)

  • That guy at 4:50 looks like Tom from The Key of Awesome.

  • never saw this coming

  • If you touch it, you will lose a few thousand atoms of this measurement; so touching it with a folk should be banned. Now it wieghs about 1 quintillionth less that it did now because of you.

    Ha ha ha ha

  • YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • look at his tie

  • nice try Brady !

  • So that's where you funding was coming from.... =)

  • 1:39 Look at his tie!

  • the professor is the coolest guy i ever seen.

  • bearded nun?

  • I like the idea of defining mass with an electrical current (I think it was the mass that could be accelerated by a given electromotive force a a certain rate) that I saw on a late-night science show. I was working on something at the time and didn't get to give it all the attention it deserved, but I thought that it was a pretty cool idea. (The topic was about trying to get away from a physical standard for mass)

  • I love Michael from vsauce (:

  • Metrics are so much easier to convert between increments. I live and work in the US and non of my coworkers can understand why I prefer using Metrics over the 'Standard'.

  • I love the tie!!!

  • but I prefer use of metric system than english system. Metric system is way more stable and better than english system :)

  • I like standard weight

  • LOL at the professor's tie.

  • Platinum price, about 1600 USD/oz[1]

    1 lb t = 13,17 oz

    1600 * 13,17 = 21 072 USD worth of platinum in that lump.

    [1]platinumprice org

  • @JuDazz123

Are those normal ounces or troy ounces?

  • @fritspas normal ounces, troy pounds.

  • lol @ holding the spoon extremely carefully at 3:40

  • Very Cool. I could watch the professor all day :)

  • professor's tie is awesome

  • wow thats only about $20,000US of platinum

  • Its so great to see Proff P wearing the poppy! Thanks for another neat vid u guys! Our young men and boys died a long way fom home and for years before america became "non neutral". As Churchill said - never have so many owed so much to so few. battle of bitain i think. we in nz wear them proudly every year, as do aussies and candians et al. and that was the last honourable war ameica ever fought. :(

  • this is so simple, yet the skill of presenting this information in an interesting and "cool" way is a real treat. Very fascinating. dave from chazy, ny

  • "just dont put this up on youtube" ahahah

  • I like his tie.

  • So.... if we say touched or dropped these standard weights... is the world screwed?

  • So, Brady just made off with twenty thousand dollars of platinum at the end there?

  • Thumbs up for the periodic table tie!

  • I don't see why people are hating on Micheal, he never claims to be the most clever man on youtube. He just likes to share interesting ideas and crazy things he finds on the huge information super highway. You just may learn something while he does it is all :D

  • I really love your videos. I watch them all. Great. Thanks!

  • I mean this in the nicest possible way, but the yankee is way too Charlie Sheen for my liking.

  • or AKA the the nun lmao too cool

  • Key of awesome!! ha ha

  • This is revolutionary information! Standard units in Avogadro's number will make Chemistry even more global!

  • Thumbs up for Vsauce !

  • WHAT. THE. FUCK.

    :O

  • wow two of my favorite channels come together

  • i dont think the professor likes the vsauce guy very much
