Ahem, well, if I do qualify as a true gnostic, it would not be in accordance with those old beliefs of 1,000 years ago, most likely. I just found the concept of worshiping air a very interesting one. Also, t is a relative element to what I believe souls, spirits, ghosts, emotions and even god are made of. An element to the equation, yet incomprehensible. To most, anyways. Of course, no one is able to correctly interpret (& share) all of the 'picture', right? Not yet, I think.

I think that there are many key factors in how we choose to do things, or when we choose to do them, or how, and so on...but in the end of saying all of that, it's crucial to remember that we "CHOSE" to do what we desired to do under any circumstance that we had a choice in. That right there is free will. Voicing an opinion or belief is free will. Deciding on who to be friends with is free will. There are lots of examples of free will.

Anyway, I was mostly pointing out the excuses Laci seemed to be giving by saying that Cause and Effect with DNA define how we make our choices. And she said that based on those two things, we would never have made any other decision but what we made. That's like saying we never chose for ourselves what we decided to do. Also, she says we have no free will. And, as far as I know, free will is for human beings having the ability to choose anything we desire to choose at any given time.

We all know that cause and effect has alot to do with how we make our choices. All I was saying is that DNA really doesn't have too much to do with the choices we make. Although, DNA does have tons to say about our appearances and how our body is made up, but scientists have not completely decoded DNA because it's extremely extensive, and it would take a VERY long time to decode one person's full DNA.

Being nice to people can easily be a bad thing if it enables people to act childish. It's like giving a pack of cigarettes to a person who just quit smoking.
People don't often think about this, but if a person has a problem and instead of actually addressing the issue they subtly ask you to give them emotional support as a substitute for actual progress, then you are encouraging them from ignoring their problems.
Being nice for the sake of being nice is destructive.

Interesting. As a philosopher most inspired by Ayn Rand, I feel Kant's explanation of virtue is almost the complete opposite of Rand's. According to Kant if you get any personal gain whatsoever out of, say helping another person, that makes the action less virtuous than if you commited a sacrifice (giving a greater value for a lesser one). Kant was trying to define morality that was compatible with the Bible so it makes sense that he would preach this.

I agree with most of the points, but I disagree with your virtue of optimism in the face of cynicism. I've always thought that overly optimistic people are engaging in wishful thinking. Denying a cynical stance is sort of contentious. Conclusions sway both ways on whether people are motivated mainly by self-interest. Trying to be overly optimistic in 'the face of cynicism' is an attempt ignore 'reality' for peace of mind. I think that a higher understanding of reality is better than happiness.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Satanists in general either. YouTube rationalist JordanOwen42 is a self-described Satanist and there is certainly no overflow of people like him on the planet. I highly recommend his videos, some of which can give you a fresh perspective on the character of Satan in the Bible.

I don't follow the teachings of satanists, but since you are so well versed in their beliefs why not explain to everyone what exactly you respect about them? actually, satanism is just the worship of bodily and physical needs. they respect satan, since satan represents sin, which they think brings about desire and pleasure. satanists don't believe in God, nor the devil, but they believe in the bodily pleasures and what satan represents (pleasure).

He advocated raping children and sacrificing them to evoke dark dieties. The body DOES NOT need to drink the blood of children nor does my body NEED to huff on LSD, DMT and any other fucked up psychodelics out there. How am I glorifying them? I'm simply not condoning them. Just because someone does not express complete and utter hate for it does not mean that person glorifies the idea. I strongly disagree with the morally horrendous actions they perform, but if you want to learn, you must use more than one source. Hence, instead of reading Crowley exclusive research, use some sources on the original writer, Simon LeVay.
