However professional looking, I was shocked to hear 'there is no right way to manage your pain'....try the Bradley method!! 2 deliveries with Lamaze and a whole lot of pain meds, and 2 deliveries with the Bradley Method and they were very managable with no drugs! What a huge sense of accomplishment to feel you had the strength to do it naturally!
Here's in interesting fact: there is a coloration between epidurals and cesarean birth. Cesarean birth have much higher baby/mother deaths. Watch "Business of Being Born"
I think it is an individual choice. Some women take pain better than others, and are able to breathe and focus to releive the pain. Some women get overwhelmed with the pain and need something to take the edge off so they can focus on the big picture happening. I chose a walking epi, I could move my legs but it still hurt some and I felt the contractions and knew when to push. I might choose a full one this time. It depends on me and how I feel.
i knw that id rather enjoy my labour and be alert and remmber it! than be in so much pain that i may pass out get my heart rate pumping which could hurt the baby more than any drug.
Having pain medication is not selfish. I did my research on it and talked to my doctor, Demerol affects the baby and its heart rate along with yours. An epidural does NOT affect the baby, the heart rate or blood pressure it only affects you.
Needing medication through labour is normal safe and common. We are in the 21 st century..
p.s. i think all you people saying you will definitely have an epidural or other med. are really selfish. do more research into the effects of epidural and maybe your closed-minded attitudes will change.
That is a complete lie about an epidural only affecting the mother. Epidurals do NOT bypass the baby. Any medications in the mother's body is also going to the baby.
I agrre with you, Im only at the end of my first trimester and I know i want to be drugged up lol. As long as the effects on the baby are short-lived as they say.
Epidurals are not scary. You just feel a quick poke and you're already numb. I've done a natural birth and one with an epidural once the pitocin made it unbearable after 8 hours of labor and no medications. My labor stopped after 8 hours so I got induced. Had it not been for the pitocin I would have been able to do without meds.
I'm getting epidural. I rather go into labor without feeling pain, rather then feel the pain. This is my first pregnancy

I agree with you! I think natural childbirth is the best way to go, and SAFEST for baby

@jadoredashboard if you were so smart you would know that contractions push babies out plus with the help of doctors using birthing tools.

the thought of an epidural scares me more than the thought of pain, I am going to do my best to breathe through the pain and avoid an epidural.
