so much of the scoring is subjective and based on the judge`s ears. Do you really think you are being objective or is your pride talking on behalf of your reason? On any given day, reputations of the old days beside, many of these bands could pull of an upset of sorts whether that be pulling up a few ranks or all the way to the top. I`ve seen it happen, and it does happen. No one band is invincible and no one band is forever shite. I respect all these bands. God Bless!
yes...every year sfu goes over there and gets around a 9th or a 7th in drumming..such as last year..and they have one of the best drum cores in the world..with players such as steven mcwhirter (world solo drum champion 2007) ect. there is no way a band of that calliber should be placing anywhere near 9th place..their tunes are much more expressive and i believe the reason why they dont get first at the worlds is simply because they are a canadian band...with a grudge against jack terry and reid
Absoulte rubbish! Have you not thought that there are some fabulous drum corps in the UK and Eire aswell? Just because SFU get beat you pull out the grudge card?? get real..one off day for the drum corps and you shout conspiracy!! Give some credit to the corps' that beat them instead of bitching and whining.
no disrespect to fmm at all! all im saying is that they got a ninth in drumming...do you really think that they deserve a ninth? be honest with yourself...
OK - put it this way. In the same competition SLOT (at the time the reinging drumming champions) had a 7th and 8th in drumming. This tells me Corps improved over the year and had good runs on the day. SFUs drum corps didn't...simple as.
no way man...they had a fine run...maybe not like number one but at least top five...reid maxwell...steven mcquirter...the list goes on...do you think they really deserve a ninth?
i agree with daz on this one, sure SFU have a good drumcore, but IMHO the drumcores of; Strathclyde Police, Boghall & Bathgate, SLOT, Scottish Power, Clan Gregor & Shotts and DIkehead. Are the same and in some cases ahead of SFU. Everyone of those drumcores mentioned above have a *consistant* placing member of the WSDC in them. Not just 1 or 2 who occasionaly get in the top 3. Dont get me wrong, i love Reid Maxwells style, but i also love the style of Gordon Brown and Eric Ward too!
If you're talking about the band over all there is a slight difference, but when it comes to drum cores I'm sorry to say that the clans core is by far the greater of the 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry i made a mistake in my statement, everyone one of those bands except TWO have a consistant placer in the WSDC BUT one of the bands (clan gregor) who do not have a constand placer DO have a well respected judge and a fabilous teacher!
I agree and at the end of the day im sure the guys in FMM tried their best, they all must have been gutted when each of them looked to see their pipe major not playing, just think their performance in general could have been so much better if that hadn't of happened, but maybe the guys just played to end the miserey and didnt give it there all knowing it was all over before they began. how can u compare that with another band under the circomstances. Slot isnt half the band these guys are!
Fantastic performance. Miles better than Slot's lifeless MSR. Pity about the mishap. I thought judges were there on their musical knowledge ability, not how good their eyesight is.
If the judge wasnt paying attention visually to what was going on....apart from whatever was heard of either a bad start or a break down,I doubt you'd even notice 1 player not playing in a circle of players like that.If they are looking at their clipboards, the ground, the sky & just listening, its possible he believed they came 1st out of what he heard that day.But the other judge probably saw it and put them last immediately.
Typical human error or complacent error? Who knows.
Tony Sloan, the judge who put them last, saw it alright - if you look at 1:10 he looks DIRECTLY at Richard Parkes...he knows! and fair play to him for it.
Saw the results. Yet another controversial decision from the piping judges - one had them 12th and the other had them first. Where's the logic in that???
Poor Pm....He looks like an absoultly wonderful guy and he must have been gutted...

I honestly reckon field marshal aren't going to be the champs this year. Canadians might have a shot...

Apparently PM Richard Parkes stopped playing because of bag failure. If you'll look closely, you can see that his bag is not inflated.
