He was a more complicated figure than is let on. Yes, he was very anti-semetic and an amoral businessman. He was not a monstrous father; if he didn't love his children, they wouldn't have become beloved by generations. Did he make his money for his own ego? If so, why did he finance each of his son's campaigns, and use all his influence he could to get them elected? I wish we had more than this little video in French to get more info.

@LimitedNewsCorp If we define anti-semitic as "prejudiced against or hostile to Jews," then he clearly was. He said , among other things, the jews brought the holocaust on themselves. He may have focused more hatred on them because of his business setbacks in Hollywood and the significant influence Jewish studio heads had back then. They were also competition on wall-street. Interestingly, there's no hint of anti-semitism in his children - in fact all the Kennedys were very pro-Israel.

People need to remember that he had his oldest daughter, Rosemary, lobotimized in 1941. She was 23 and becoming an embarrassment to the family. They said she was "retarded", which is the old term for Down's syndrome, but pictures of her show a lovely young woman who doesn't have the physical appearance of a Down's person. The operation was performed in secret, without the knowledge of Rose Kennedy. Rosemary was left little more than a vegetable, and hidden away for the rest of her life.
