  • But will it blend?

  • BUT WEN U PUT SALT IN WATER IT MAKES SALTWATER!!!?!?? WTF

  • @lWILLMAKEYOUCRY sodium is different from salt because salt is sodium and chloride mixed together

  • be careful...

  • although francium is highly highly explosive, i highly highly doubt you could POSSIBLY obtain any, considering fanciums half-life is approximately 22 minutes, and at any given point in time there can only be a maximum of on ounce of this alkali found on earth, its an extremely rare metal

  • I was thinking about smuggling potassium

out of our science class. I didn't. Now I wish I did... though it was raining that say. On second thoughts actually...

  • yeah, but can i make that sodium at my home??? and if i cam,tel mehow.....:DD

  • @SuperStrelac If you REALLY want to make sodium, you'll need to find a way to SAFELY get PURE table salt (NaCl) up to about 900 degrees celcius to reach it's melting point. After you've melted it you'll need to pass a strong DC current through the molten salt, and at the negative terminal solid sodium will synthesize (appear)

I really don't reccomend doing this because having sodium at 900 degrees celcius is asking for trouble because the sodium will react (EXPLODE) more vilently at this temp.

  • @Silenthen1 tnx Broo :)

  • IDEA: Tell somebody to put their had in a jar so they get their hand covered with sodium. Then tell them to wash it off.

IDEA the 2nd: swim in a pool of sodium and take a shower.

  • @jeffshi1345

    Sodium is a metal...

  • u r funny and crazyLOL . BTW imagine a rock of sodium thrown into a swimming pool!!!? , what can happen ? the city be destroyed

  • We did this in our science class our teacher was like shhh dont tell anyone lol

  • WAAAAHHHHH xD

  • damn i wanna see some alkali metals EXPLODE in real life......i like explosions :D

  • So he just brought along a bottle of sodium? What if it had broken and spilt onto you?

  • that isn't sodium! its something else

  • A MERMAID!!!! 0:18

  • @lightmario2 fucking helarious mate. lol

    i nearly cried! xD

  • @lightmario2

    lmfao

  • How do your parents not know about sodium? Its like a parent not knowing that kids eat food...

  • lmao

    "WHHHHHOOOA!!!!"

  • awesome !! XD

  • ... it's just sodium. Sodium is a natural element. It's not like it was nuclear waste.

  • Just don't get the cloud on you, caustic soda :S

  • its not sodium any more its just an alkaline solution that is totally inert mostly

  • @SeekayFilms 2Na + 2H2O ---> 2NaOH + H2 It's the hydroxide ions that come out of the dissolved NaOH that is harmful, not the sodium itself.

  • where do you get that sodium?

  • whats the name in german

    kalium????

  • sodium= Natrium

    potassium= Kalium

  • you should try some chlorine next

  • they kill the fish with alkaline solution

  • Alkaline solution contaminated in this pool .... :P

  • ok, soldium grabs the OH in H2O becomes NaOH, then the rest H becomes H2 which goes into the air, because this process creates heat, H2 gets ignited thus the explosion.

  • "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" lol

  • sodium isnt explosive...

it reacts quickly and violently when exposed to oxygen

  • Comment removed

  • what do you call this?

  • no, when it's exposed to water.

  • Watched this over and over during science class and said it had to do with science so i could :D

  • Its Scientific!

  • LoL!!! WHHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!! People should make a parody of this xD funny laugh!

  • Did that with 3/4 lb of sodium in a steel container. The explosion knocked us off our feet and shook the bridge we were on. Stupid High School prank...

  • The laughing made me crack up. lol

  • isn't education fun?! lol

  • that looks like a place near my home, Johnson Shut-ins

  • You polluted the water with lye! Was that a reservoir?

  • WHAAAAAAA!!!!!

  • uhm what kind of sodium that kaboom??

  • Pure.

  • haha... ur laughing sound louder than sodium explosion..lol.

  • where do i can get sodium ._.

  • i did explode a sodium in toilet at school hahahaha big explosion

  • HAH!!!!!!!

  • school! :D lol

  • You should have used Francium! *evil grin*

  • Well, if you can gather that much francium, go ahead.

  • I'd love to. Would be a bit hard to handle the francium, though.

  • yeah, those radioactive atoms seem to evade me for some reason

  • Don't you think i would have if i could have? How about you go find some francium and put a video up of you blowing it up?

  • @bballspike plus francium is radioactive lol

  • @bballspike lol and also you would have NOT even got the francium because it costs a couple of billion quid :3

  • @bballspike

    why are you butthurt

  • @bballspike will this form maybe NaOH?

  • @johnsze123 no it will for NACHO

lol sorry had to say that

  • @bballspike LOL theres like half a gram of francium left on earth

  • @Drag0nfoxx Ok you tool Francium is the second most rarest element on earth so good luck even finding a few miligrams at max.

  • @Drag0nfoxx

Francium is impossible to gain in a state where you can transport it and experiment with it, basically its not even there

  • @Drag0nfoxx there is only like a teaspoonful of it in the world

  • Hope they had safety glasses. Otherwise a drop in the eye can be very - complicated.

  • wat is sodium and from where i can get it?

  • If you don't know what sodium is, then it is better you don't get it.

  • i completely agree

  • Comment removed

  • Chickens! You should have tried it with Lithium instead. Chuck Norris would!

  • WHERE CAN I GET SODIUM?!?!?!?!

  • do you know what it makes after the exlosion? it's not water its sodium hydroxide and its corrosive. but its still cool when it explodes :P

  • "WOOOOOOOOOOOW" priceless lmao...

  • matter+antimatter = GAMMA

  • coolll

  • I love how when it explodes everyone is like "WhAAAA whoa" LOL

  • buy it off ebay

  • where can I buy some?

  • hey does this still explode in fresh water????

  • Easily.

  • things to bring on a famil vacation

    #1: Sodium

  • *family

  • no dumb asses

  • mushroom! nice one btw

  • by the way, cesium does the same thing, only with 16 times the force. look it up

  • yea cesium like blows up the container! lol

  • damn! i gotta try with cesium!!!

  • Bring more of theese next time. LMFAO

  • where can i get some sodium!?

  • chemistry classroom?

    or buy on ebay

  • today our cience teaher put sum in water

  • yow

  • Whooaaahhhhh lol they sound like stoners

  • ha ha ha XD

  • where the hell do u get a bottle of sodium?

  • nooodont o that wrab it in bread and feed it to sea gulls =) lol they blow up.

  • where can you get sodium?

  • mcdonald's french fries

  • SO TRUE

  • Isn't that sodium chloride? ):

  • Yeah

  • doesn't look very smart. from my experience the explosion hurls small chunks of unreacted sodium metal through the air. sodium metal that can react with the oil and moisture on your skin, and small amounts of water just cause it to catch fire. i agree with l0lercaust be careful or you will be up for darwin award.

  • where do i get it

  • the black market. j/k ebay most likely, they have everything. either that or try to steal it from chemistry class.

  • BOOM!!!!!

  • BAM! Woooooooooow!

  • can someone thow a 10Kg piece into a lake?

  • That sounds fun... all we need is 10KG of sodium.

  • I gave that suggestion to my teacher, he said its dangerouse...

  • i wonder what would happen if you took all the cesium on earth and dropped into the ocean.

  • Think of a bomb going off the size of a nuke...

  • nah, Francium is where it's at!

  • i think lithium would be worse :D

  • Looking on the periodic table francium is way down at the bottom = most reactive (but it's hard to get hold of and it decays very fast!)

  • yup, my mistake, i was thinking of the halogens.

  • It's definately a lot safer to play with halogens... Helium can be very fun :)

  • helium is a noble gas not a halogen, Iodine, Bromine, Chlorene, and Flourine are the Halogens

  • sorry, my bad.

  • good job getting that since the half life is 20 minutes... oh and the part where its radioactive

  • I think the extreme reactiveness would put it off my list of fun things to do, or handle with my precious fingers (gloves or otherwise)...

  • DOOB

  • i would take like a 50 pound block of sodium, and dump in in a a lake, that would be awsome

  • It would be..

  • ever hear of the Darwin awards?

  • I NEED FUKIN SODIUM!

  • where can u get sodium?

  • most chemist catalogs sell small amounts, anthing larger and youll probably have to steal some or pirate some

  • chemist catelogues??pirate some//?? ty for the help

  • "MUSHROOM!!!! :D"

  • francium works much better, its the most volatile element when placed in water, if only i had some...

  • That's a joke right? If francium came in touch with water there'd be an amazingly huge nuclear explosion covering a whole lot of the world, besides it's Half Life lasts 22 minutes and there's only atoms of it available. It's the 2nd rarest substance on this planet.

  • u idiot

  • why the fuck do u call him idiot? u r the idiot talking about francium without any knowledge about it. read before posting anything stupid, now go and see some others more adequate videos for kid.

  • first off learn to string a sentance together, secondly, do you not know how retardedly out of proportion that is "an amazingly huge nuclear explosion covering a whole lot of the world" and nice wikipedia search up there aswell, and back to what i said previously, "francium would work better" obviously a joke you fucking idiots and even if it wasnt a joke, it does still work better as a volatile element in water

  • ohh by the way the above comment was by me,i was logged in as setanta1810 by accident. and i guess jmmatos23 does not have the required intelligence for a rebuttal.

  • Actually, you couldn't get a decent enough size sample of francium to make a decent explosion. Seriously, all you people run around with basic chemistry rules and think you know everything. If you want an explosion, there are much better compounds just as easily available that are cheaper and more fun. Second, if you're going to yell at people about grammar, use proper spelling. n00b.

  • I'm sorry that was me, i was signed in as guitarfatality07 by accident, sorry.

  • indeed, francium is HIGHLY radioactive and has a half life of 22 minutes

  • only the government is allowed to handle it, though o well.

  • You can buy some on ebay. It's roughly 100$ a pound.

  • kool vid

where can you get sodium from?

  • salt

  • no, salt is Sodium chloride.

  • it was a joke, i was saying that there was sodium in salt

  • Your jokes suck.

  • yeah, my cock

  • So your saying Your mum ,, sucks YOUR cock?

hmm, alright. i'll leave you to it.

  • Lol what kind of a moron would waste francium cesium or potassium on some dumb fraternity thrill. lol if you want the cheaper route try a match and gasoline

  • where do u get sodium from?? some1 tell me

  • ...man, I have to disillusion you all, this is a actiity sequence of metals: Li K Na Ca Mg Al Zn Cr Fe Cd Co Ni Sn Pb H(reference point) Cu Ag Hg Au (of corse, Fluorine is the most reactive chemical element (E=4,0)- thanks for attention

  • Sodium is the 2nd most reactive metal. So reactive, it will burn away in the air becuase of the moisture in the air. The 1st most reactive metal is potassium. Water + Potassium = BIG BOOM

  • Actually it's Cesium but w/e.

  • theoretically its francium:) not cesium

  • theoretically , but francium is impossible to work with due to its,,how dpo i say it,, life time it only lasts a couple hours

  • true, the largest amount ever isolated was 300,000 atoms of Fr.

  • That was cool

  • you know that the ammount of sodium hydroxide created wont kill enough fish in a river dude the ph will hardly change.

  • I dare some of you do the following demonstration:

    2Na + 2HCl => 2NaCl + H2 (!!)

I've done that way back in my high-school boyhood.

  • And I've also done

    2K + H2SO4 => K2SO4 +H2

Lo and behold, the magnificent scene (!!!)

  • Concentration of 0H- and H+ are transition states. More theoretical construct. In a closed system the Na+ will combine with the OH to produce NaOH and increase the alkalinity of the water (higher pH). The flame that you see is due to this exothermic reaction heating the H2 gas also produced by the reaction. But in a stream...eh...not much change in pH.

  • 2Na + 2H2O = 2NaOH + H2

  • will the 2OH- and H2+ in the product keep the pH of the water the same or are the Hydrogens unable to dissociate?

  • No. The hydrogen evades since it is a gas lighter than air, and the hydroxide ions will cause a basic pH.

  • You Know That You Are Creating Sodium Hidroxide that could kill lots of fish?

  • sorry! iam very poor in chemistry:chemistry is like double edged sword-good&bad to be obtained out of it!

  • But fish are good!

  • Nitro+Fire = death
