i hated noah and the wale for a long time after five years time, i still think its awful but i love all their other stuff and can't wait to see them at reading
@adolfhitlerz I was listening to that song for the first time and had the incredibly annoying feeling you get when you can't remember what song it was reminding you of, ended up here, main melody's pretty damn similar though they're both great
Hey, be happy your super cool indie band made it mainstream. If you really liked them you'd want them to make more money, and have more fans. Its better than scoffing at people who you think aren't as good as you because they listen to more popular music. Guh, how to hipsters even work?
I love how they have different versions of some of their songs. So you get different perspectives. As well as how they incorporate lyrics from their other songs into them
i swore i'd stop likin then after i heard radio 1 had gotten their claws into them and made "5 years time" into a mainstream gimick pop product, but i can't not like them :(
no, because it's not like i just make the decision to not like them so as to appear cool, it just sounds different to me when it's 'pop' as opposed to unsigned folky stuff.
@yousterify Ya but once an artist goes mainstream, some people lose their sense of superiority that they like "real music" and have to stop following that artist, as mainstream isn't deep and meaningful real *rolls eyes*
@MsMaryPatricia I would say the mainstream does tend to deter artists from their conceptual avenues with hollow ad populum appeals to the biggest audiences.
Though it's very rare that artists lose their entire essence. Noah and the Whale certainly haven't lost that quaint beauty.
@dramaticafantastica That's really selfish to stop liking a band because the "got mainstream." You should be happy that 1.) they're getting publicity & becoming popular 2.) there are more people you can agree with more people on enjoying them.
@RocketReptar Lmao i love how you can describe an emotion as selfish as if we get any choice. Anyway, it's not selfish, it's just that, to me, when Noah and the Whale were an undiscovered folk gem who played exclusively in pubs, they 'felt' different to me than when they were on radio one with that one song over and over, on every advert etc. just n opinion mate.
@dramaticafantastica It is too selfish. You want them to stay unknown, but it hinders them to stay unknown, and I imagine that they like getting exposure, because it helps to make sure they can continue playing, and expands their fan base. I can understand disliking it if they're being overplayed, but to dislike them because they're mainstream is ridiculous.
@RocketReptar I don't want them to stay unknown, that's different. I don't like them in the same way because they don't have the same feel to me anymore. Why does this concern you at all? My opinion has no affect on the bands success. But no you're right, I'm being so darn selfish I'm going to alter my opinions.

This song makes you feel happy inside, but at the same time reminds you that life can be a bitch. Still, i love a bit of Noah and the Whale any time!

@dramaticafantastica don't you think it's a lil ridiculous to stop liking an artiste just because they have been "made mainstream"? :)

@yousterify totally agree, but you kind of lose taste when everyone starts listening to it.. its better when its kept secret :)
