Is that the Roxy in LA? I lived next to it for 8 yrs and went there many times for shows. If that's the same roxy they sure made it look nicer than the tiny hole in the wall that it is ;))
Brian Wilson was my teenage hero. The Beach Boys' music opened my mind to deeper emotional resonance in Rock music. Throughout my entire life I've been inspired by his music as a budding musician and a person. He will always be one of my favorite musical figures........
Brian sounds EXACTLY like he did in the 70's, here. I can't help but think that if it wasn't for the whole breakdown thing, he'd have his 60's voice, nowadays.
I think almost everyone loved them and we still do. I STILL Play thier CD's in my car a lot, especially in the summertime! I have all their Cd's of the music they made in the 1960's and 1970's. It would have been so wonderful if his brothers were singing with him as well ! So much talent wrapped up in one person, it's AWESOME ! It's impossible for me to comprehend who would vote negatively against this or any song of the BeachBoys.
Are you music deaf ? That's the one and only explanation that I can find !

This is great. I would see a Brian Wilson or Al Jardine show any day over the Mike Love(less) and Bruce Johnston karaoke hour. Thanks for firing all of the former Beach Boys touring members Mike, you only improved Brian and Al's bands by doing so. P.S. John Stamos (musically) is no Dennis Wilson, and the only guy that even comes close to Carl is Jeff Foskett and he is in Brian's band. Listen to any current Beach Boys performances, they are terrible.
Saw Brian and his band last year. They were excellent. It's good to see Brain up and around and functional. If you're a Beach Boy fan and get an opportunity ot see Brian and this great band...do so. It was a lot of fun with lots of great Beach Boy's tunes performed wonderfully.
@saparmc first of all, I can promise you if we were sitting across the table you wouldn't call me dipshit..so show a little respect, please.
A big part of his mental illness was directly related to drug use which in the end destroyed all opportunity as they do with most people who abuse drugs.
Having grown up with and seen many of my friends destroy their lives with drugs, I have experience seeing the bright and brilliant become the strange and psychotic form pot / coke and meth
@cobyson100 the internet provides very "special" people like yourself a sense of courage you would never have if we were to have the same discussion face to face...
Taylor Mills sings as beautifully as she looks. It doesn't appear that she's done anything since 2009 (based on her website). Hope she's up to something! It's great to see Brian performing with musicians who understand his music.
@cobyson100 - no, he didn't make a decision -that implies a simple choice between two equally understood alternatives. You appear to know nothing about the insidiousness of drugs or the fragiiity of Brian's psyche if you think it was as simple as that. Maybe if you were him you might understand, but as you're not, you don't.
@prescient8 you make a decision the first time that alcohol or pipe comes to your lips or that pill goes down your throat...PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY...anything else is just democrat brainwashing...."it's not your fault; now can I have your vote?
Brian wrote this tripping on acid, having had a huge fight with with Murray, his Dad. He sat down at the piano chanting, hate my par-ents, hate my par-ents, starting the four note riff, da-da-DA-da, da-da-Da-, hate my par-ents, well east coast girls are hip... and the rest is history. This was Brian's Revolver, so to speak. This led to Good Vibrations, Pet Sounds, and a place in our world that includes Dylan, Paul, John, and maybe only Stevie Wonder.
One of only 3 people who could compete with John and Paul in the 60s: Brian, Bacharach and Dylan. But if you want to talk about fairness, it wasn't really fair to the other songwriters, cuz God gave these 5 fellows bigger gifts than he gave other songwriters of that era.
@wilsondylanmccartney definitely true, although I think that Bacharach and Brian Wilson are a little underrated compared to the other three because their images weren't as "hip" or cutting edge and they came from a slightly earlier era. I think that the Motown songwriters were incredibly good as well!
dogboy01: Not too shabby there. Read one way it states we all hate Mike. The next line says, Love the jerk off. Or do we all love to hate Mike the jerk off? I choose the latter. So do you or I at least hope so. Brian Wilson is still the man.
evanparker: You are so correct. Thank God Brian happened to be at a venue where the Wondermints were playing. Musically they are better than the Beach Boys original band. Though Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston were PDG or pretty damn good. Those were the ones with talent. If I omitted a name, I guess it is because I feel that person had none.
Brian and the beach boys...I love you!!! I laid in the sun and sang with you. I washed the car out in the yard and sang with you. I drove to the local burger joint for a coke and sang with you and I went to bed singing with you at night and woke up in the morning singing with you. You're the best!!!
Brian still has a great voice. Not like how it used to be, but he lost it in his drug phase, and then got it back, and I think it's better than some of those classic rockers that are touring today
I don't think it's possible to hear this song and not feel a sense of happiness. I just wish Brian's brothers were here to sing with him. RIP Dennis & Carl.
Yeah, Brian definately sounds better than Mike Love here. The more I listen to the Beach boys, all the others really had better voices than Mike Love.
@larrystarstruck Mike Love was phenominal in many of the Beach Boys songs, and while those who appreciate the genius of Brian Wilson will snub the surfing songs and drool over Pet Sounds and Smile, those may never have come to fruition without the surfing songs. Brian, here, doesn't sound better than the original, nor should he. He's been through a ton of storms, so to speak. I know it's cool to shit on Mike Love, but he was a necessary piece of the puzzle.
@HOGEFAN You are very wise, not to mention extremely perceptive when it comes to the Beach Boys. I wish people would get over their hate Mike Love fetish and appreciate him for his contributions to the band.
I've seen Brian Wilson last year with this band and it is by far the best performance I have ever seen. They all seem to really enjoy it and their vibe is so great.
On the SMILE dvd is also alot of great footage how they prepared themselves and most of all Brian for this tour.
