Even though BHop lost the decision he still claims greatness through wins from De la Hoya, Winky Wright, and the latest demolition of the great white Hype Pavlik(Joke). Look any fight BHOP lost its was close even to jones in 1993 at RFK stadium in DC. The taylor fights he won, but they wanted a new champion so they overthrew BHOP's dictatorship of the middleweight division like that fuckin idiot bush did to saddam in Iraq.
De La Hoya had no business at middleweight and it was evident in the Sturm fight. So he gets no credit for that. Hop made Winky move up in weight, not one weight, but two weight classes so that he could get the advantage. And Pavlik ain't nothing special, he's just an ordinary, one-dimensional fighter who had to ounce again move up in weight like virtually every one of Hopkins' opponent. Beating Tarver was kinda nice, but Tarver is an inconsistent fighter and is far from great.
JC is a ok fighter with good conditioning but who is jeff lacy or mikkel kessler and who have they beat. Jones lost 3 of his last 4 major fights to taver twice and glen johnson once. Bernard in my eyes landed the cleaner and sharper punches thats why you didn't see a scratch on his face at the end but JC looked pretty banged up. I won't give Calzhage greatness yet. Let him fight glen Johnson, Chad Dawson, or Tarver first then he can claim greatness. He doesn't carry the power to ko any of them

It would've been great to have seen Calzaghe v Jones & Hopkins about 5-7 years ago, but all 3 fighters jealously protected their empires. Jones went to Light Heavy in 96' and Hopkins remained at Middleweight, so with Calzaghe at SuperMiddle it was remote that they would meet. If he's going to have a last night, Chad Dawson is the best fight out there.

The reason calzaghe has problems with his hands is because the flurrys he throws arent punches with the knuckles. They are more of a slap than a punch. And im not trying to take the piss out of him but they really are more like slaps than punches.
Well in martial arts, the palm strike is more powerful than a generic punch. Ask any martial arts or self defence expert. You can knock someone out more efficiently with a slap than a punch.

Calzaghe looks pretty good in sections, i dont know how far into the training this was but i didnt see anything exceptional there. If he rolls back like that off combinations Jones will put him to sleep. Didnt like that approach atall what i saw there and i hate to say it but i reckon Joe's in for a shock saturday night. Look at the vids with Andre Berto or Roy Jones jr working on the pads. (you can watch it on youtube) This shit anin't nothin'. And when he's in the ring his technique looks even worse. He slaps like a girl wich comes in very handy as it cuts your opponent. For instance Roy. Apart from that, his only achievement is his volume of punches.

Let me tell you. I'm from Swansea which is not far from where Joe's from. I was a kid boxer around the same time as Enzo Macarinelli and we'd spar. When I was 12 Joe told me I had to get my overhand right and my hook improved or I'd suffer. I've seen him fight live, in training the guy was a beast. He was a boxer in every aspect of the word and this is coming from a boxers pov nothing else. He won fights with a broken hand. Understand that.

Well, one of the best at 168. I guess he missed Hopkins and Jones early on, but the word is he wanted to fight. didn't though. didn't fight a solidGJ either. Kessler and Lacy were decent, and got beat up. Pavlik and Froch mean nothing. Dawson maybe, but Joe's past his prime. Should have left home and proven himself. Unappealing style, but I do think he was better than he looked. Imposed his will on everyone. There weren't too many fighters out there at 168. guess he wanted to leave 175 alone.

I have seen several Joe Calzaghe training videos on the web and it looks ordinary. It does not look impressive like how Floyd Mayweather or Roy Jones Jr. trains. De La Hoya had no business at middleweight and it was evident in the Sturm fight. So he gets no credit for that. Hop made Winky move up in weight, not one weight, but two weight classes so that he could get the advantage. And Pavlik ain't nothing special, he's just an ordinary, one-dimensional fighter who had to ounce again move up in weight like virtually every one of Hopkins' opponent. Beating Tarver was kinda nice, but Tarver is an inconsistent fighter and is far from great.

JC is a ok fighter with good conditioning but who is jeff lacy or mikkel kessler and who have they beat. Jones lost 3 of his last 4 major fights to taver twice and glen johnson once. Bernard in my eyes landed the cleaner and sharper punches thats why you didn't see a scratch on his face at the end but JC looked pretty banged up. I won't give Calzhage greatness yet. It would've been great to have seen Calzaghe v Jones & Hopkins about 5-7 years ago, but all 3 fighters jealously protected their empires. Jones went to Light Heavy in 96' and Hopkins remained at Middleweight, so with Calzaghe at SuperMiddle it was remote that they would meet. If he's going to have a last night, Chad Dawson is the best fight out there.

im fed up with people saying that Calzaghe only fights over the hill fighters and that he still hasnt proven himself...18 years 46 professional fights, WORLD champion for over a decade, beaten lacy,kessler,hopkins and jones in last 2 years. he has never ducked anyone, he has always beaten everyone that has been put infront of him...how is he not a great fighter?

He still got tarver, dawson,pavlik, glenn the terrible johnson who in my eyes beat dawson. And they gave the bhopkins fight to him. Most of those pitty pat punches didn't land ask peter manfredo and as fot lacy A middleweight named taylor beat him.

hopkins would beat tarver, dawson, he did beat pavlik, so why should joe waste his time? truth is if they were that desparate to fight him they would have made more of an effort, manfredo didnt throw a punch for at least 15 seconds, with calzaghe unloading a barrage of 'slaps' rules say if the ref dont see a competitor fighting back then he should stop the fight.

I've been training fighters for many years and I agree that Enzo is not even letting Joe get his punches off b4 bringing pad. Also Joes FEET look terribly slow, theres no flow there at all. And someone yells "go Joe" and he turns around to talk? During training? He's not ready, not for Roy at least.

The reason calzaghe has problems with his hands is because the flurrys he throws arent punches with the knuckles. They are more of a slap than a punch. And im not trying to take the piss out of him but they really are more like slaps than punches.

Well in martial arts, the palm strike is more powerful than a generic punch. Ask any martial arts or self defence expert. You can knock someone out more efficiently with a slap than a punch.
Ok, this is boxing, and yes, we punch with our knuckles. But as long as his power is flowing through his arms, it doesnt matter where the contact is on the gloves to Roy's face, as long as he makes contact, thats the main point..

Calzaghe looks pretty good in sections, i dont know how far into the training this was but i didnt see anything exceptional there. If he rolls back like that off combinations Jones will put him to sleep. Didnt like that approach atall what i saw there and i hate to say it but i reckon Joe's in for a shock saturday night. I hope im wrong but he didnt look a patch on Jones's open workout
