The first time I watched this episode was at 10:00 at night, in the family room, and I was with my older brother. All through the last half an hour of the episode, tears were streaming down my face. I always read that in books, but while I watched this, I really lost it. D':

I've seen a couple questions here wondering why Foyet didn't just grab the knife and kill Hotch. He liked to psychologically wound his victim as well as physically. Playing with his food, so to speak. Look how he played with that first cops head for so many years, without killing. And how he taunt his second victim after killing the first when he'd stop a car. He fed off the fear.

@allyouneedislove37 but in all seriousness this scene was one of my favourites so emotional, i felt anger after what the reaper said about finding hotch's son and showing him hotch and his wife dead.
wow george foyet was my most favourite but fucked up character, studies anatomy just to cut himself up clearing him as a suspect, cutting young women up and then when he did this months ago wow...good writing i loved it i just laughed when hayley died fuck knows why.
If i were hotch, i would've put 1 more round in his head, before he took off the curtains, to avoid the whole 2nd half of this clip...lol...but it is the most sad scene yet.
i think what people meant when they thought that Jack was behind the curtain is that the Reaper was holding Jack in front of him and showing his shoes on purpose so when Hotch fires, Jack gets shot instead. at least that's what I thought.

As hard as this episode was to watch, I really loved it. Fantastic piece of drama, SO well acted, and orchestrated! I hope the show goes on and on, like the L&O chain~
the shoes weren't meant to be his sons he knew where his son was that's why he told him to work the case...they were the reapers shoes and he saw them so that's where he thought the reaper was standing
Oh my gosh! in the flashback, he sounds just like Greg! I never hear Greg's voice when he is Hotchner, but there it is!!!!! 5:43 (probably just because he's cheerie and not all serious....)

Jack didnt see anything that Foyet did. He was told to "work the case" and was in that hiding place when his mother was shot. He was still hiding when Hotch killed the reaper. Jack was not scarred.
True, he didn't see anything, but if gets the hero complex like his father don't you think he will be guilty that he ran and hid while his mother was killed? And yes he was a kid and he couldn't do anything but look at hotch when Foyet killed the people on the bus, he knew he didn't kill them but he still feels guilty
This episode was an amazing job of everybody in the cast, but Thomas Gibson just took everything with his acting! Maybe I'm too baised against him as being such a great TG-fan, but he totally rocked! His talent is something you cant query, it shows so clearly in that episode. He is perfect for this role. They would have to give him an Emmy at least. He so wonderful and painfully underrated. Nobody have an eye in Hollywood? Duh...
I love how tender JJ is with Jack. They should put them together more often (ie. JJ can protect Jack when Hotch is taken hostage, or something like that).

After watching this episode...I feel about Thomas Gibson as an actor the way people felt a/b Matt Damon after the "Bourne" series...I always thought he was perfect for the role...but Jesus Christ...he knocked it out of the park!!!!
@mpearsol7 I agree with you, I never watched D&G and when friends told me about this show I was like " who's the dark haired guy" I did'nt realize who he was. He's my favorite character and I love this guy. Thomas Gibson is such an under rated /under utilized actor. Its such a shame he has not been considered for more roles like the Bourne series.
The Slave of Duty is also the other name for The Pirates of Penzance. I found that ironic when I researched the play.
The scene where Hotch is looking in the house; that reminds me about the Season 4 premiere where Morgan (*sign*) was looking on the subway for the UnSub that blew up Hotch's and Kate's SUV.

the shoes weren't meant to be his sons he knew where his son was that's why he told him to work the case...they were the reapers shoes and he saw them so that's where he thought the reaper was standing

@itsdarby4u Yes, he does. This epi made me cry... I always saw hotch as a robotic creature, but he showed so much emotion... he fought for Hailey's life even though she was dead. That's more than dedication there.

Not that I'm rooting for the Reaper or anything but if he would have just stabbed Hotch instead of doing the criminal monologuing thing he could have killed Hotch and might have been able to escape.

Jack didnt see anything that Foyet did. He was told to "work the case" and was in that hiding place when his mother was shot. He was still hiding when Hotch killed the reaper. Jack was not scarred.

True, he didn't see anything, but if gets the hero complex like his father don't you think he will be guilty that he ran and hid while his mother was killed? And yes he was a kid and he couldn't do anything but look at hotch when Foyet killed the people on the bus, he knew he didn't kill them but he still feels guilty

This episode was an amazing job of everybody in the cast, but Thomas Gibson just took everything with his acting! Maybe I'm too baised against him as being such a great TG-fan, but he totally rocked! His talent is something you cant query, it shows so clearly in that episode. He is perfect for this role. They would have to give him an Emmy at least. He so wonderful and painfully underrated. Nobody have an eye in Hollywood? Duh...

After watching this episode...I feel about Thomas Gibson as an actor the way people felt a/b Matt Damon after the "Bourne" series...I always thought he was perfect for the role...but Jesus Christ...he knocked it out of the park!!!!

@mpearsol7 I agree with you, I never watched D&G and when friends told me about this show I was like " who's the dark haired guy" I did'nt realize who he was. He's my favorite character and I love this guy. Thomas Gibson is such an under rated /under utilized actor. Its such a shame he has not been considered for more roles like the Bourne series.

The Slave of Duty is also the other name for The Pirates of Penzance. I found that ironic when I researched the play.
The scene where Hotch is looking in the house; that reminds me about the Season 4 premiere where Morgan (*sign*) was looking on the subway for the UnSub that blew up Hotch's and Kate's SUV.
