  • In the world....

  • They had to go and ruin a good thing there...Me and my dad have one of these (an 81 diesil...sharing it for the time being), and it gets awesome fuel mileage on its original engine in its unmodified state, hovering around 80 mpg (US), although I can't claim 0-60 in 7 seconds...However, we do have new suspension and a racing clutch installed (dad's bad knee is hard on clutches), which makes for fast gear changes.

  • I think a few peeps in the comments are confused between UK and US MPG, US gallon is smaller, so 84MPG US = 100MPG UK

  • The inviromentalitismist car... In the world

  • Idiots... I never have seen most stupid dickheads doing somthing stupid like this,..

  • the polo bluemotion...which...is not available in the US is able to get 80mpg...it's on another top gear challenge, look it up.

  • just more proof of the diesel miracle of performance and mileage

  • The reason cars these days, even TDIs don't get this kind of gas mileage is because of the EPA. In 1996, Volkswagen released a TDI Passat that averaged around 50mpg. However, shortly there after, the EPA issued requirements for car manufacturers to install smog control crap all over the engine. Regulators, and advanced computers that limited the amount of diesel that could be injected into the engine. So, in complete irony, it's the governments fault, not car manufacturers.

  • I own a 97 passat tdi, I get 52mpg on highways 43 around town WHILE having bigger injectors, its chipped and has an exhaust.

    134whp 224ft.lbs

  • job well done!

  • a thing that is totally unuseful on a small car is powersteereng and automatic transmission (for european cars ovviusly, automatic is a pain in the ass here to work on it)

  • You'd have to be an idiot to think car companies aren't getting kick backs from the oil companies. Part of the reason why they don't release their financial records. The H2 proves this point as it was produced well past the point of profitability. In contrast most other vehicle models in history have been discontinued before they become unprofitable, the ones that weren't all were admitted significant foresight errors ending with someone getting fired. I think GM tried to go bankrupt.

  • Why can't companies mass produce cars that are that efficient??

  • You want a car with no airbags? no ABS? no electric windows? no radio? thin tires? ... Todays engines are way more efficient than in the past. Cars just get too heavy.

  • @johannes914 my dads trailblazer has all this, so does my 94 bronco. the bronco has cast iron diffs, heads, and engine block, steel body and bumpers. the trailblazer has an alloy engine block, aluminum heads, and aluminum fron diff and axle tube. steel body, plastic bumpers. bronco weighs 5060lbs with me and emergency equipment. the trailblazer weighs 4900 empty. with a person and the normal stuff in it theyll weigh about the same. now tell me, where is all that weight coming from?

  • whats your point? a car with abs airsbags and electric windows makes a car heavier.

  • @theblackout27

oh they can, easily. if a bunch of guys can get together and take an ancient relic and transform it with only $7k to get 84mpg. try and imagine what corporations with BILLIONS could do.

P.S. car companies get payed from the oil comps to make inefficient cars.

  • Your Videos are all so well filmed, looks amazing and really catches your eye. Good work. Awesome car! Keep the vids Commin!

  • thats awesome guys

  • Stick that in your pipe and smoke it prius owners!

  • Yeah the whole sipster thing is awesome but pleeease stop trying to imitate Jeremy's way of talking when introducing a new scene, sounds kinda ridiculous.

    Otherwise, nice work

  • haha i like the editing, but the narrator has got to go...

  • that is really impressive, makes me wonder why all cars aren't as efficient as this

my favourate bit was the narrator blatantly trying to sound like clarkson

  • I want to see an 1hour special of this one.
