I'm trying to figure out who decided to put flashy shapes and bring the value down hugely because it makes it market like an overpriced toy.. otherwise i think its good.
Sorta like a portable sequenser (notepad of Ideas) basically this can do *A handheld digital musical instrument *Can create up to 16 layers of sounds *Allows DJs & producers to 'jam / improvise' within their set BPMs. *Intuitive, instantaneous operation *MIDI compatible *16x16 matrix of LED switches *Has internal sound effects *Samples can be loaded from external sources (yay) *Ten function buttons *Can store up to 16 programmed blocks (16-layer groups)
other things will do similar things but not in the same way, its all about the interface.
...and the devices you see that appear to do it in the same way are just copies of this.
Its a cool device but very over priced, If yamaha had any sense they would have priced this thinh WAY lower, if they had evryone would have bought them.

Well, the way I understand it you can only have a repeating phrase as long as the screen is...so it really is not that great. Unless you can save the samples of course and then arrange them together. And also I hope there are more than those say 40 sounds. Still, this stuff is of that kind that you get one Christmass as a present, play with it every day for like a week and then you put it somewhere to catch dust. It is that sort of thing like yoghurt maker or fondue maker.
i think give it 3 or 4 years and these will be less than £100 once they start mass producing them. You gotta realise these things are like hand built right now and its a totaly new technoligy. When plasma screens 1st came out how much did they cost? now u can get a hd lcd screen for less than £300 the price will go down
It costs just a wee... $1,200!!!!! Get a life. This thing is a child's play toy affordable only by the big rich guy that just happens to live down the street and drives a black Mercedes-Benz! PLEASE PEOPLE!
(By the way, look the TENORI-ON up and you will find out that i am not lying about the price. For Pete's sake! TENORI-ON even SOUNDS expensive.)
Cant really say many good things about this, It is awfully expensive for what it is, elektroplankton on the nintendo ds is a cheaper option if u like lights and sound, also have a look at the korg kaosillator no lights no lights though. :)
also look at grooveboxes like korg electribe or mc-808 from roland these cost about the same as (or less than) a tenori-on but are much greater and more powerful music making tools.
The Tenori-on can actually be used to create seriously beautiful music!
A living proof:

maybe if it didn't cost so much..
it would be considered as more of a toy than an annoying wonnabe music making device.

I'm not sure what the japanese are trying to do...
This isn't music.
It sounds like R2-D2.
Get a PadKONTROL and a s2000 and make some real music.
