  • if u need tabs, i like to use Ultimate-guitar.

    com

  • WHat is the Effect you are using ?

  • @dayji the only effect being used is just a little touch of reverb, nothing else

  • @neosonic66 " thanks for the reply"

Do you have Money for nothing Video "lesson or "Are we in Trouble" - MarkKnopfler

  • @neosonic66 Thanks for the Reply >

Pls show me slowly how to play "money for nothing " and the Guitaring portion of "Are we in Trouble"

  • great job

  • Thanks a lot! for the lesson, terrific!!!

  • Fantastic lesson! You explain the pick thing right off the bat, yet an endless parade of dumbasses is leaving comments about how you're supposed to fingerpick.

  • Damn u play good:| i'm speachless.

  • @tigermale indeed he is good... but i think it's rather the clear tone of the fender that left you speechless :)

  • you used a pick!!!! NOOOooooo....

  • nice play!

  • I play it with my fingers, it sounds much better then. You should try it !

  • Superb! - Comments appreciated on my live version

  • wow!

  • Can you also show \ tell us which chords you're using after the 3:10 min. point

    Thanks

  • Right hand plays with fingers - you sound like a "tone by tone" roboter, sorry

  • opa legal!!

  • Gracias amigo

  • Thanks !!!

  • Very good, and the second part ?

  • THANKS MAN =)

  • this s not the alchemy version?

  • @normannen13 This is "My dick in your ass" version ¬¬

    Nice Playing and Lesson

    NeoSonic66

  • everyone asking for tabs ,,,, FUCKING GOOGLE IT !!

  • That was a good lesson, but I think something is lost by playing with a pick. I've tried this solo over the years, and it never seems to sound right without the proper finger picking. Just my opinion!

  • very good..

  • somehow I don't want to learn this, I don't think anyone else than MK himself can do that solo justice

  • MAN some parts are wrong the final part of this is is play on 3° on the D,G N' B string is easyer than 8

  • thank u very much 4 ur lesson, it really helped ;)

  • great lesson

  • This damn sure helps!

  • Thanks man :D I learnt from you :D :D :D

  • can i have tabs to please man

  • OMG GOOD tabs PLz

  • Is there a tab for this genius solo? its quite hard to follow without one!

  • tab plis

  • yeaaa, is very good!!!!

  • ce scopi co sta chitarra fratè... awesome!!!

  • good but you kept on hitting unwanted strings throughout

  • That happens when you are THINKING about it. He probably does a great job on this, live.

Besides, it's a tutorial and a damn good one. he could have re-recorded, but he wasn't going for PERFECT on the demo, that's YOUR job, lol

  • I'm aiming for a similar sound & I would be happy for any hints :)

  • i just had the EQ at 5's across the board, the key to that tone is a strat on the neck / middle pickup

  • i dont care i you use a pick or not. it taught me how to do it, Thanks!

  • why dont you use ur fingers. i always played with a pick and it took me like a week to learn the beginning to the end of the first solo with my fingers. its fairly easy. it sounds alot better too

  • I explained that in the beginning of the video. I assumed that most people are used to playing with a pick, not their fingers, so I taught it from that perspective. I also assumed that a person experienced with fingerpicking could easily transpose this lesson to accommodate that style, since the left hand wouldn't change at all. This way the lesson was accessible by both inexperienced, and more seasoned players. When I perform this, I play with my fingers.

  • hei whats going on at 1:46? i can't figure out that shape, i know where to place me fingers but it's a little bit too fast....

the other stuff is PERFECT!!! and correct, thank you very much =)

  • dude u play awesome just slow down a bit other than that, awesome

  • wow that was easier than i thaught it would be, thank you sooo much

  • it´s perfect thx!

  • my gotªªªªªªªª!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • non si riesce a capire un cazzo!

  • haha si !!!!

  • to fast....

  • thx.

  • good one

  • heard of bar?! ...

    i do not think so!!

  • Way to fast FAIL!

  • Touché =p

    Anyway I got it now

and I enjoy playing it :)

  • Nice tone you got there.

  • thank you, i didnt agree with what u did for the bflatm slide it just didnt sound right to my ears, so im going to noodle around and find something i like, but hell, it fits. thx man

  • Man, play with your fingers!

  • exactly what i thought... Mr Knoffler would be ashamed.... You have 1 pick... or three active plucking fingers.... watch the master..... thats why it looks easy.... but, of course it isn't... and that why mark knoffler is guitar GOD....

  • thanx, it took some time and patients to learn because you go a little fast but after pausing a little and rewinding the video it does make sense in the end. i've only been playing for a year and i think yuo did a wonderful job THANK YOU

  • beginning i get than you go to fast cant see what your doing at the moment you go back to 12 fret g

  • 1:39 ... ??

  • You're too fast, I can't see

  • Fender American Deluxe Strat!!

    Excelent axe!!

  • im not tryign to be a dick, you rock vandeilly your a bad mofo. i just was kinda let down hopin you would punk this one like you the rest that you do..

  • its missing the distinctive plucking/muting sound. this totally changes the sound and feel.. you got to do this with no pick

  • simple and smooth. u guys might say some notes are wrong, but i learned quickly and with no problem. sounds nice to me

  • It's not exactly spot on and a little rushed, but ok. He mutes the first two notes of that arpeggio bit.

  • let ring the notes it would be better... Great cover ;)

  • fuck man! u are great! i learn now the first solo, thx man, very much!

  • take a look in my solo buddy

  • I don't understand this. Maybe I've played this song too much but what you're doing here isn't even close to the feeling it's supposed to have. You also missed many notes... God, throw away the pick! The key to Mark's style is the fingerpicking vibe and his feeling while playing every note. I think you should consider that before posting a dire strait's "lesson". Sorry for being so straight-forward, I appreciate your effort making this video, but if you're gonna "teach", please, do it properly.

  • I totally agree with you.

  • i've never understood people's rote and ritualistic adherence to a song - how about making it your own? none of you guys will ever be knophler so relax, take it down a notch sootty, and have some fun. one of the reasons i dug jimi so much was that of all the songs in my collection of his - he hardly played them the same way twice. no need to be a snob about playing the guitar...

  • I see your point. On the other hand, there may be people who don't want to invest the time to master finger picking, but would still enjoy playing and can use this video. Maybe it should be advertised as such.

  • what's the chord used in the end?

  • Great lesson!

  • damn dude that was a great lesson, i learned that in 1 hour and can play it perfectly now, ty

  • wonderful solo, but for me, its a little bit to fast... do you have a slow version?

i'm 14 and play from 2 years guitar, and thats my favourite song...

  • Thanks man. That really helped me navigate thru the solo.

  • nice !

  • Hey man!!!! Un grazie dall'Italia! Davide

  • "beginner", sorry ...

  • Neosonic, very good job. I mean i m not a begginner n u hav improved my playing. Do u hav the middle solo and the licks after 1st solo n before the last one? I know all song but i would lik to compare with your playing ...

  • awesome

  • thanks a lot, if you were not you would not have obtained to take off this ground

    ;)

  • some adivice man. u play really well and u have taught me this solo :D but talk louder when u are making a vid like this please :)

  • hi man. you play very well the guitar but u must try to show the essence of the song, coz u played the song very fast but it hadnt the exactly rhythm of this song.

  • It's hard to play exactly in rhythm when I have no metronome or backing track, my goal was to just give people a starting point to learn to play it themselves without having to use tabs, but you're right, it's hardly perfect

  • Good job!

  • Anybody got tabs for this? could really be helpfull

  • ever heard of the internet?:O millions of tabs there;)

  • very good neo sonic

  • could I get the tabs for this plz?

  • What scale does he play in? Harmonic Minor?

  • Thats an awesome sound, i have a usa strat and a marshall, but i cant get a sdound like that. Whats your set up. Cheers. Good job.

  • Not really because students have always played with their fingers. The plectrum is a style that they have had to leard, just like Travis Style. but it can be played using Just the thumb and first finger quite easily. I have a student who never really played finger style before, but learned the song in one afternoon. Granted it wasn't perfect, but it is now. That was in July. And he is 14.

  • When I took lessons, I started with a pick, and have found this to be pretty common. Feel free to make your own video if you don't find this one satisfactory, I've had plenty of feedback that this style was preferred before I made it.

  • Close not bad hands out of position. Why not finger style? BTW The A major arpeggio starts on the 12th fret harmonics on the 6th and 5th strings.

  • It's easier to teach using a pick for less experienced players to learn, but most of the licks in that and the 2nd solo really lend themselves to fingerpicking

  • You are completely out of position. Solo I starts in 6th position on the second (b) string. Right at 38 sec point you are playing an A arpeggio in ninth possition. The first two notes (e abd a) are not fretted, they are 12th fret harmonics. The fretted Bb to C arpeggios are in third and fifth position and the C is a raked chord not picked. Much easier to play and teach. And finger style is actually easier to play than a plectrum. Been teaching 10 yrs, playing 30.

  • Well, I never claimed note for note, take it for what it is.... I really don't care if it's 100% accurate, it's fun to play, that's the way I arranged it, and that's really all I care about

  • No problem, but just for S%^Ts and Giggles you should learn it right. Trust me it is a hell of a lot more fun to play.

  • fingerstyle is easier for me to play on this... but for someone who has no idea how to play fingerstyle, can learn it with a pick, since that's what they're used to.... anyone familiar with fingerstyle should hav

  • very good boy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Which pedal did you use for this song ?

  • no pedals, just the clean channel on the amp, and the neck and middle pickup position, there's a little reverb from the amp's spring reverb as well

  • Nice what do u have marshall?

  • it's cherry burst, it's only on the ash bodied deluxes, the regular alder bodies don't offer that finish for whatever reason

  • pls man at 1:40 wick strings and frets do u use??pls reply

  • I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky .09 gauge strings

  • Thank you very much it was pretty and clear

  • thanx so much, great lesson

  • good

  • Waycool !!!

  • very good

  • really nice tone. What's your setup?

  • thanks, i'm using the clean channel on a marshall jcm2000 TSL-60 head, through a 1960A cab with G12T-75 stock speakers, neck and middle pickup position.

  • aguante dire straits

  • Awesome !!

You can play this very goood ! :D

Do you have the tabs of this song ?? than can i better understand it :P know I muss the hole time, pauze play pause play :P you know..

Thank you and ROCK ON !! :D

    x KATE

ps. sorry for my bad english xD

  • no, I do not have tabs, I try not to use them. I'd recommend you stick to the pause/play video method, because you're training your ear that way instead of using tabs to cheat ;-)

you're welcome!! check out the second solo on vanderbilly (dot) com, we do free guitar lessons there!

  • Oke Thankss, I will check your video's :D

  • HOLA CUATE ESTO ES PARA VOS

  • thxxxx mannnn alottttttt, great job!!! NICE

  • Really really great work! I wonder if I could play this on my classical guitar ;)

  • Hey nice one mate.. Couple of parts not quite right though.. but it's very hard to play using a pick.. Keep up the good work though man :-)

  • yeah, i was going for my best 'ear' approximation to give people a good starting point at least for this, but you're right, a lot of the parts of this solo lend themselves to finger-picking

  • Nice one mate - simple and easy lesson. Have wanted to play that for years!

  • nice thanks a lot, you actually managed to teach me in three minutes...

  • What amp do you used for this recording?

  • it's in the description, but I'm using a Marshall JCM2000 TSL-60 head with a 1960A 4x12 cab, clean channel

  • thank you, fantastic.

  • TOO FAST FOR ME!

  • dude you have amazing Taste in music

  • T-H-A-N-K-S-!-!-!-!

  • hey can u make a tab for this plz?

  • Sorry, I don't use tablature or have any available, that's why I made this lesson

  • great lesson

  • thanks freeaman!

  • Yeah, i can definitely see how playing with the pick isn't quite as soft a sound as using fingers, on the same token, for learning purposes i think you made the right decision ;-). Also, very well done. Anybody who can play Knopfler is awesome in my book.

  • thanks... and yeah I figured it was easier to learn with a pick, however, the second solo especially lends itself to finger-picking (i have that lesson available on vanderbilly dot com if you're interested)

  • Please read the description, this is a sample lesson that I made for vanderbilly dot com, which I encourage anyone looking for great free and accurate video lessons to check out, no tabs, that's what ears are for! ;-)

  • Fav song... great lesson.

  • Awesome dude, great lesson
