well... if you actually look at the details of the case the judge is a rightwinger and would not allow the jury to hear any evidence in Siegelman's favor. He ruled so much inadmissable that he could not defend himself. Even I could kick Mike Tyson's ass if he was hogtied first.

Only by living here each day during this trial and having access to the newspapers and local broadcast news reports can you appreciate just how fucking mean the republicans of this state are. It was at the point of being comical, until he was convicted. He was not even allowed to get his affairs in order before being sent directly to federal prison.

Sentenced to 7 years. Keep in mind that roughly 3 years earlier Gov. Guy Hunt was convicted of illegally profiting cash from his position as Gov. and was never made to suffer the embarrassment of being paraded in front of the media in hand cuffs and leg irons as Siegelman was. And was given probation. It's mind-numbing. The leaders of this state, with their crippling incompetence and religious fanaticism, have kept Alabama mired in backwardness. Thanks for letting me vent. This story is bull. Siegelman was convicted on 7 charges of corruption. If he really was innocent and the court was biased against him, he could have appealed his conviction to a higher court. In the higher court, a different judge and a different prosecutor would have been appointed who would have looked at the case differently and overturned his conviction on the evidence. That it didnt happen proves Siegelman is guilty. I dont like Rove's tactics but not everything bad can be blamed on him.
