  • seen him live it is a sight to behold he is a musical genius all hail the modfather !!!

  • They don't make em like this no more...

  • Amazing Song! And Is There A Better Song Writer Than Paul Weller? The Answer Is No!!!!!! :) Paul Weller (The Man)! :)

  • fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanx a lot @brazil70. ;) I've found it because I recorded the show on a french channel a long time ago! ;) COuldn't remember. Thanx for the reply. ;)

  • Hey Guys, Where can I find an official release?

  • @YannViseur There isn't one ,unfortunately. This was recorded from the telly - I bought it on ebay.

  • When people talk about being The Man, if your name's not Paul Weller, then you're not The Man.

  • 2:05 its morrisey on trumpet! true supergroup lol!

Stevie Craddock and Damon Minchella :D!

  • Briliant. As always when Paul does.

  • Thanks so much for posting. Absolutely electrifying performance.

  • Still think this is fucking awesome

    Never fails to inspire

  • I remember watching Jools Holland every friday night on BBC2 as a kid hoping to catch a Weller performance.

  • Just the best track The Great Man has ever written. Who else is there/has there ever been who keeps on doing it like him?

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • Paul Weller, angry + a Gibson SG = A happy me. :)

  • Probably my favourite Weller track? Excellent!!!

  • Simply fantastic!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Weler in his absolute pomp. This is just a fantastic performance and song.

  • Was there.. Buddy got some tickets. Right result. Amazing - at BBC TV Centre. O.C.S. Steve and Damon with foxy orchestra section! Check out the spats - only Miguel Angel Jimenez can carry those off too.

  • Increíble...

  • Out of the 20296 views, I swear a 1000 of them are me alone......Still perhaps the most electrifying and cosmic live performance I've ever beheld.

    He's the King!

  • fantastic version. Full of energy. Weller at his best

  • Genius piece of music

  • totally rocks - so many years on still!

  • hey man i respect ur opinion...every one has their own particular faves from the master.....he has so many great tracks.......my top 5.....sunflower,invisible,clues,country,foot of the mountain........awesome! :) knight this man he deserves it so much!! ARISE.....SIR PAUL WELLER :)

  • best song Wella fella has written!!! Cannie wait for the barras gig

  • I just found this song today...When it comes to Mr.Weller, I always want more! He's so prolific, and so potent, whether he's rocking us or serenading us with his beautiful, sensual (but always classy) ballads. I love the lush instrumentation on this one, including the old synth sound near 4:00.! Rock on, Paul!

  • delemere forest, 12.06.09.. this tune fkin rockd it

  • Unfukinbelieveable!!!

  • Fantastic piece of music by a musical genious.

  • Word. Probably the most intelligent comment ever :)

  • The Modfather at his Brilliant Best

    Whitey Legend !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • steve white the geatest drummer in the world paul definitely misses him too bad

  • Word,

  • Cue Whitey at 4.57....Encore.

  • すごすぎる!

  • That drummer needs one of them 'Mad Skillz' t-shirts!

  • i love the profound sadness of his lyrics...

  • He is The Best!!!

  • My hero! Awesome!! Powerful!!!

  • Awesome !!

Weller is one of the greatest musicians ever !!

  • Great!!!

  • it cant get much better than that

  • i was stood about 5 meters away from him at blackpool ballroom when he played this, blew me away.... legend!

  • Total Genius that's all i can say! Going to see Weller for the first time tomorrow at newcastle arena, i can't bloody wait!

  • if anyone can show me a better live performance i would love to see it coz in my eyes this is the best ever, the man is pure class.

  • I just love this song and this performance - the best

  • This is just awesome. If i'd choose one song and performance that would sum up how good Weller is, this would be my choice.

    Amazing

  • A DVD of Weller performances on Jools is supposed to be coming out in November. All I can say is that this had better be on it! Absolutely incredible!

  • This song is utterly amazing live.

  • Agree with all the above (or below), but Stevie Craddock plays some mean guitar.

  • I remember watching this on TV as a 12 yr old guitar player - I was so blown away by Steve White I decided the drum kit was the way to go. I now make a living playing drums.

    Awesome performance.

  • This is just too good, i cannot stop watching it.

Something incredible.... super-natural happens on that stage, its just pure electric!

  • No-one plays guitar like Weller. I'm not saying he's the best, but no-one can play rhtymn like him. Jools Holland said watching this performance was like standing next to a nuclear reactor.

Fun fact. When the Jam split up, after 3 number ones, and classics like Town Called Malice, Going Underground and That's Entertainment, Weller was just 21.

  • lovely point.

same thing could be said for steve white. his drum playing isnt just exquisite, he has an odd energy and focus when playing.

  • Minor point but the Jam split in 1982 and as Weller is 50 this year then he would've been 24, not 21.

But still, a remarkable achievement whether 21 or 24.

  • Oh my god I LOVE this performance of this song - Weller's energy, White mistakedly thinking the song had ended and having to recover and even the cellist's obvious love of the song. The whole thing makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

I am seeing him in Nov in MEN Manchester, I hope he's still got it.

  • Ha lol, yeah only just noticed that bit, steve is like "what the hell".... Pure musical magic happening on stage!

  • Make No mistake about it.....he has still got it!

Saw him last night in Perth, Australia. Great show, great performance!

    Enjoy!

  • The stuff of legend. The whole gig on Later is immense. The mans a genius

  • this is AMAZING he fuckin loves it

  • great paul song

  • think you can always tell the songs that paul really digs - he's lost in this one

  • brilliant song x

  • Tout simplement MOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTEL.

  • weller is GOD HEAD! san diego california here..US americans like him as well. Cheers!

  • I've had this on video since it was shown about 10? years ago...I'm DESPRATE to get it on DVD..WHERE CAN I GET IT??

  • me too i lost the damn tape when i moved :( i think it was 1998/9

  • top tune weller is the best

  • THE BEST LIVE PLAYER ON EARTH

  • no one's as deep as the Well.

this song, this performance is SNAP!

  • wow, ive not seen this before... those are bloody incredible musicians up there, some of the best ever to grace our land.

  • Superb performance.

    Weller at his best.

Craddock rocks and Steve White, for me, best drummer around.

  • They're on fire apart from the twat on the Les Paul, watch him, he sucks, but Paul is amazing and the drummer is rockin out, peace

  • Like if you were only half the guitarist Steve Cradock is pothead - do your yourself afavour and check out Ocean Colour Scene and take a lesson from the cream of British music.

  • Well said man :)

    Pothead, go fuck yourself.

  • Pothead, just shut it man. You're obviously jealous.

  • The mans best live track, It still sounds fab to this day, Mr W is God !!

  • My god I haven't seen this in years. The energy level was so high, it made my hairs stand up. Weller is God. I also love the little bit at 4:58 where Steve White thinks they've finished but then realises they've got one little bit more to do. Thanks for posting this!!

  • What energy! Weller and his band are spot on. Weller is fucking brillant. I will never understand why he never made it big in America! Thank you for the post.

  • Cos he never wanted to tour in America, he liked England too much. This is according to all the biographies that are published about him.

  • He did tour in America in the early Jam days, but he never hit it big there. Going Underground when straight in at number 1 whilst he was on tour in America, and thought fuck it, and came straight home to Top of the Pops lol. He says that was the end any popularity the Jam had in the US lol.

  • Ah nice one for that man :)

  • absolute quality long live weller

  • quality the man will go down in history right up there with the best

  • woah whoever uploaded this ur a ledgend any chance u sendin us copy or where u got it from??

    paul weller is god!

  • it really doesn't get any better than that. damn.

  • Can life get better?

  • that was live?

farkin' brill. Weller, you simply amaze!

  • From Steve Marriott and Tin Soldier to Paul Weller and Whirlpool's end...it's called evolution. The question is...who can surpass Weller? I hope I live long enough! Simply excellent.

  • ABSOLUTELY FANTASIC !!!!!!!!!

  • Had to come back for more, this is fucking awesome !

  • what a fcukin tune also with the brass givein it some. AV ITTTTTTTTTTT

  • it is an awesome track - superb in the studio - electric live - go man!

  • Halleluhjah to Paul Weller, but also multiple thanks to the brass/strings orchestra on Jools' show. Thanks for posting this (how did you get it?)

  • I got a copy of it on ebay (recorded off television)

  • I've got an old videotape I made of this show/concert back when it was broadcast on MuchMusic back about 15 years ago. I'm frantically trying to get a dvd of it as I'm afraid of the tape quality going downhill. Still no luck but I'll keep looking! :) This song was the highlight of the show I think. Love the way Weller and Cradock 'keep the song" going at around the 4:51 area. Whitey is looking around at them, then figures it out and gets it all going again...awesome!

  • There is no other artist in world music who gets such a rocking reaction to his music and performance from both the audience and his backing band. Look at the way both the brass and string sections are so involved in the performance. In utter awe. Fantastic.

  • Absolute Classic .. Imagine the state of British music if Weller hadn`t of rescued it 30 years ago !!!!

  • I remember seing this on 'Later' a good few years back, one of Wellers finest performances, thanks for sharing. Great stuff !

  • No worries. I got the dvd off ebay for £3! Its the best live set I've heard Weller do.

  • well i am off too e bay right now friend to seek it out cheers

  • if anyone has it please let me know, i recorded this on vhs tape when it was on years back and then i lost it when i moved house

  • Sha la la la, sha la la la la...

  • absolutely amazing. gotta be one of my favourite weller songs

anyone know what machine is generating those effects in the mad bit near the end? think brendan lynch is using it

  • it could be something called moog or mini-moog, and that part is actually from another track, gtr-moog jam, which you can find in the demos-disc of the album anniversary deluxe edition of 2005.

  • nice one, heard of moog synths but thought they were similar to keyboards, but looks like ur right there!

yeh, the deluxe stanley road is brilliant

    thanks

  • I realized that its not "moog jam" but "steam", which is in the demos disc too, but was also published in fly on the wall, disc 2.
