I'm thankful I saw them at the Big Day Out in Brisbane about a decade ago..Had to wait through a whole day of mediocrity(Mercury Rev rocked though) and they were the last act. The hapless idiots in the crowd sniggered at Bernard's paunch wondering who these old men were but when they started belting out the classics it was Fucken' MAGIC!!!!

Ian was a tortured soul, he fronted the band well and had a very interesting style and voice. Not necessarily a well trained voice, but a pure, romantic one, and a head full of meaningful and insightful words. The band had that rhythmic style to it from the onset, but with Bernard up front, a totally different stor. Thoughtful yes, insightful yes, and still hopelessly romantic, but with at times much more of a sense of exuberance and bliss as evidenced here.

Are you all kidding? Ok the mosh must have great on the night and all that, but they have totally ruined what was a touchingly beautiful conduit between the pre-and-post Curtis line up. "New Order" lucked out with a very small handful of mega hits, but set themselves up for life financially, but in the main they appeal to a "football crowd" audience, and have as much subtlety as a low flying brick.

@ArthurWar4you Of course there are still good bands out there, just don't rely on the mainstream media. New Order wasn't mainstream back in the day either. In fact they were relatively obscure, mostly in North America. I started to listen to New Order at the end of the '80s and it took me years to discover that they had a female band member and I only found out in 2005 that their previous incarnation was Joy Division. Just to put you in context, I knew much more about Depeche Mode and The Cure.
