We may not have had internet, iphones, or Xbox, but damn it we had music 10X better, cartoons with actual plots and storylines, and MTV was playing nothing but music videos all the time
@001GenLee I dream your same dream at least once a day my friend.....at least we have some memories of that great time that nobody can ever take away!
Every time I hear this sone it takes me back where I first heard it. At the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrel Theatre in San Francisco---yes, a strip club---played through a HUGE McIntosh p.a. / repro system. It sounds SO damned good! this song plays, and I remember the girl dancing on the stage, a lithe redhead whos name i dont recall---only the flowing silk sash across her perfect body flowing in the breeze of the fan, against her perfect curves.... precious memories of a young man....
This was the greatest musci of all time! i cannot count the number of songs of this era that just made life worth living for us...and the huge numbers who lost thier lives during this same time...why??? I love the music from this time
@001GenLee i remember this song...when it came out. both myself and my husband loved it. i still do...dont know if he does. does it make me want to go back...yes...too much.
i try to avoid this music but it calls to me, haunts me.
im now 46 and i had a good life then and have a good life now but... just diff. still i long for my 80's and all it meant and all it was :)
you are a strange younger women to see this but..you are smart LOL :)
I'm 30, so yeah only a little kid in the 80's. But I remember this is the type of music my Dad would always listen to on the radio when he's driving me to school in the morning. Simply Red, Micheal McDonald, Journey, Foreigner, Van Halen, Lionel Ritchie. 10cc. Bad Company. Santana. Duran Duran, Tears for Fears. And countless others. Very soulful music, no wonder I liked it so much as a kid.
@001GenLee You want to go to the past? IF YOU WOULD HAVE PASSED THE WAYS WE MADE TO COME UP, YOU WOULD NOW SUFFER DOUBLE. BECAUSE Y OU WOULD SEE, HOW FAST WE ARE GOING DOWN NOW.
And to think I could not listen to this stuff, because all the friends said it was FAG music, to hell with them I'm 48 and will listen to what I want....
wasted all those years!!...ooooooohh keep holing on!!.....so tight!! love u Simply Red followed you for damn near 17 yrs!! uuuyea..that is all i have to say!!
I believe that this is one of the strongest songs of our time. Mik articulates the unspoken fear that we had as children and continue to carry as adults, t hat burning fear that we have, unfortunately, lost so very much of who we are/were. This loss of identity, worth, and self-esteem could truly be in response to how we were raised and dealt with. Those of us, keep holding on, believing that, we can survive and hopefully be able to give back.
@001GenLee I'm so, so with you on that one...I'm 31 and would LOVE to do that and really experience that time period (for the good and bad) plus see so many great musicians, too.
It is about a small town boy fighting to hide his sexualtity and finding himself leaving home to leave for the big city where he can be himself. A very sad song but beautiful. One of my favorites.
This was a time when technology was budding. Fashion was what you made up. It was all acceptable. I grew up on Atari and now their is Playstation. This song reminds me all that I discovered and discovered me.
There is soo much feeling in this song This man has a very good voice. Beautifully written music too. Simply Red huh? Simply timeless. Music that is. ; )
I still get teared up when I hear this song. A marriage of nine years gone down the drain and two children that were not even made that was conceived by another man. :-(. I got to let her go.
Don't have to comment anything because the others talking exactly what I think about this song.If you ever loved so deeply you would understand.Love it.
I was only 4 when this song came out. I don't know how I remember it. I guess my mom just continued to play good music so I could know what it is. Thanks for that mommy. I miss you. RIP
Song popped into my head earlier this week after years of not having thought of it. Funny many of your were little kids and reminisce about it. I was about 28 when it came out, now I'm 53. Wow. It brings back bittersweet memories.
@bushbaby001 In relation to my former comments: I would love to collaborate with other "Boomers and Others" in the creation of "Real Music!" That which we loved, stood for and kept close to our hearts...
@bushbaby001 Gracious thanks to all of you who liked my comment many months regarding this song! You are all incredibly real! Please, I have thought about this for many years and since so many of us are "linked" to this kind of music....how do we create something painstakingly real and long lasting for not only ourselves but for future generations which follow us?! I wish to be able to share the story of my much-beloved music with my future generations as well as creating something which
TI AMO
