@kriszkrs And you and I both know how much the older versions sucked. I will say this however...Windows 7 isn't terrible, although I would never use it for anything other than gaming.

If you want an operating system that deals with legacy software intelligently, try out Solaris. It offers the ability to set up zones that each run an older version of the kernel, so you can run legacy hardware in an OS level virtualized environment. Its really cool.

I guess the point I was trying to make was just that I feel without knowing the whole story about something...its hard to judge it. The reason Microsoft Windows is so flawed isn't necessary the current team of developers...its the legacy support issue. Every time they bring out a new OS, they have to build on top of the old version to maintain legacy support.

@kriszkrs I am not trying to compare Windows and Mac though. In Solaris or any Linux distro, I can install whatever User Interface I want. I can choose between Gnome, KDE, or any number of other shells. But in Mac I am stuck using their interface. I just don't like it.

@kriszkrs I use Solaris 11 personally (Open Indiana to be precise). I don't care for Microsoft either. Nor do I care for Mac OSX. We use Macs where I work, and I find the UI very confusing. Everything is a symbol...rather than a label. I will give Mac OSX one thing. OpenBSD is a pretty awesome kernel. However it doesn't change the fact that I hate the UI thats running on top of it.  I will take Gnome or KDE over Mac OSX anyday.
