  • I can draw same olny on paper with pancil and ofcourse without thouse cool photoshop efects i need to learn how to use CS3 xD

  • @Aidokinn

Yes he mostly uses a Wacom Intuos3 combined with Adobe Photoshop for his work. Great combination, by the way.

  • do you do all this with a mouse on a computer or what?

  • @Aidokinn he uses drawing tablet in most of his work if not all (i think...)

  • :] Cant wait to start this! Just waiting for my new laptop and tablet <3

  • @InsidiousRuin ...I'm months late though haha

  • I turned this into a masterpiece

  • I'll give this a try :D

  • i LOVE this idea. its like a super advanced coloring book! haha

  • I also have Photoshop elements :(

  • I'm 11,and I need to finish this :O

  • ...lol, that is the speed painted dragon from another vid XD

its so awesome that apparently everyone is drawing it, lol

i am doing that on paper XD

  • *groans* I would have liked to print the pic and paint over it, but it's just going to be a mess with that shading you gave it. Maybe next time you'll post something that doesn't require digital painting to join.

  • @ZephyrOfDarknessArt

your paint should be able to cover anything on the paper.

the added shading will only give you more depth..

  • Thank you for the challenge! It was a lot of fun to paint this!

  • Cool

  • loll im just gonna ruin your perfect artwork

  • i dont know if this is suppose to be a dragon or a dinosaur. But i have come to think that ur dragons looks less like a dragon and more like a dinosaur, which i find sad because dragons are mythical creatures and should look more surreal and less realistic.

  • @NarutoSSj6

u just said he drew a mythical creature wrong....

how do you do it wrong if there is no pattern to follow? this is called being creative and personal touch

perhaps your idea of a dragon is the wrong one

  • @theraVen27 i gave my opinion, and criticized. now when i am looking back at the drawing, i notice that its a dinosaur.

  • are you going to finish this piece of art?

  • The .psd opens up just fine on my PC with CS2. This is a very cool idea and thanks for posting! Hopefully I can find time to make something out of this!

  • Are you allowed to add more to the drawing, like give it a full body?

  • @metalzoa17 Sure. 100% freedom to do anything you want with it. :-)

  • @cgsbgs AWESOME! =D I'm going to give this a try.

  • I'm not worthy :((

  • Is this in real time?

  • I try it, but the picture looks not good. Sorry. I'm too bad. :(

  • Im an artist.... i wanna finish it..... just wish i can draw it.

  • can you do like a person that we have to Finnish?

  • hey chris i was looking through my magazine the other day it was 'fantasy & sci-fi digital art Imagine Fx on how to draw and paint FANTASY' and i noticed that your in it :D your like right at the front lol :)

obviously you know but i was like looking through saw this and shouted OMG ITS CHRIS lol xD

    man your awsum :)

  • I cant make a video response, so is it okay I just send the finished version like a link or something?

  • Actually, this would be a great way for training upcoming artists as well. They can take a sketch such as this and use it as an outline to practice their coloring skills on photoshop.

  • @Megawhites2 speaking of which, this just brought up an idea. is there anyway you can finish up a drawing but have a seperate file of it left at the same stage as the one you left this video at for other people to download and color on? That way, we can try to color it to match yours in an attempt to have something to follow. For technique building purposes.

  • what software its this?

  • i would like to say, to everyone else who have done the pics, well done they look amaising!!! im envious at how great your dragons look. Keep it up!!!

  • Can't we like have a place where we could post the links? I wanna see how people would do this :P

  • ill try... but i cant do scales :'(

  • Yay!! :D

  • Posted on your DA :p I guess that's where we're supposed to put it?

  • DRAGONS ARE NOT REALLY MY THING! BUT ILL GIVE IT A TRY WITH UR PSD FILE!

U ARE BY FAR THE BEST ONE I KNOW THAT CAN DRAW DRAGONS!!!

WERE U A CONCEPT ARTIST ON ANY FILMS IN ANIMATION??

  • @Artistic323 wow.... no need for caps xD

  • @Artistic323 how come some people such as yourself write an entire message in caps? I seriously don't get it, what's the point....

  • @DiNozzo431 IF ITS NOT THE POINT THEN WHY U BITCHING!!!! KEEP STUPID COMMENTS TO URSELF PLUS WHY ARE U REPLYING ON MY COMMENT! I WASENT TALKING TO U!

  • If I have time, I shall do this! Also, no right click is required on windows. Things that need a right-click are the files that will work in the browser the person is using - usually things like pictures, videos, and photos.

  • Challenge accepted! You are an inspiration, thank you! :D

  • made my a littel fast and I am not so skilled but it was fun more challenges like this please

  • this will be a epic challenge!!!!!

  • this will be a challenge for me because i just got photoshop

  • Nice idea! I'll try to do something :) Thanks!

  • interesting i think i just might :)

I could use with some dragon drawing practice

  • Cool Idea Chris, I just might.:)

  • How do you get the drawing across if you cant upload to youtube? Because i've just uploaded a jpeg to photobucket but how do I send you the link?

  • Is this in jpeg, or psd format?

  • I'm already drawing ;)

  • Augh! Must try this! But I won't have it up for at least a week. Got other stuff to do.

  • ASIAN DRAGONS!!! YOU WOULD OWN!!!

  • are you using a tablet?

  • @darknewday4d - Yes he uses a tablet.

  • first to finish.

  • ok i gave in and did it :P mine obviously doesn't compare to your stuff but nevertheless i needed a break from work and what better way to spend an hour that doodling a dragon :)

  • Cool idea. I can't wait to try my hand at this.

  • are u using mouse?

  • @arbitner haha, god no he's not.

  • thanks for your guide, but it comes off so big there are little squares in the line drawings. the drawing is nothin but squrae dot lines. i do not know much about computer stuff, but this is weird!! love your art anyway.

  • What do you use to record?

  • i like this! challenge accept it :)

  • What program is this?

  • @ThEgRoWtHsPeRt ...its Photoshop.

  • @Lazyfishstix It's just that it looks a bit different to my setup so i didn't think it was Photoshop, but thanks

  • <3 Amazing idea! I accept this challenge!

  • haha i remember when we were talking of doing this a while back. if i have time i will try and do something with it :)

  • Challenge accepted...

  • Christ I downloaded from devianart and the link work perfectly!!

  • I'm gonna turn it into Hannah Montana.

  • almost done! about halfway there XD

  • Working on it right now but i have a question! Ive done the scales and i want to start adding shading THEN color. What layer option do i put or what settings is it to put color over the black/white image?

  • @ArmaniAttack You can manipulate the monochrome layer by changing the brush setting to 'colour', which will let you paint in a new colour (in monochrome) which replaces the grayscale, however this looks quite dull so i would only do this as a 1st step as a switch to colour. After that paint in more diverse colour with whatever tools you are most comfortable with. Dodge and burn are fantastic tools and i recommend using them with colour pictures, mastering them really makes colour work easy.

  • @digitised Right now my image looks like his but with scales and shading all black and white. All ineed to do is add color i have all the brights and darks done and continued doing scales as he does.

  • All right! I'd love to participate :)

  • Good idea!!! i'll try it when i finish the exams hahaha

  • Awesome Idea, I'll try it out soon! :D

  • i dont think i can do this cuz you use a way diff style then me

  • wow exelent

  • gonna try it - i'm sure i'll mess it up - it surely will be emberassing for me....

  • YAY :D

you just made my day dude!

  • i need to downgrade my photoshop to like cs3 or 4. so it doesnt do line lag, and cause connecting lines... its a pain in tee ass

  • I want to try to finish it but none of my stupid programs can open the file. I use windows vista and maybe someone can help me?

  • @mai0dolphy It's a PSD file so it should automatically load up in photoshop. If you don't have that software, then that might be why you're having trouble.

  • @NikiPaprika Oh thanks. Yeah I think that's my problem. Can't I open it with some different software or must I download photoshop?

  • I would love to, but I am afraid I'll destroy it XD

  • Thanks for the frequent uploads Chris!

  • PCs just download the link when you click on it normally too, or at least it does for me (windows XP).

  • Looks fine as it is to be honest xD!

I feel that if anyone did anything to it besides you it would be instantly ruined :P

  • A challenge brave sir knight? Howzaa!!!!

Got to take you up on that I guess.

Any reasonable timelimit on this 'contest'? I mean... you could declare a winner or fav maybe?

  • it would be real cool if you did a tutorial step by step with your voice i know youve done one before i just think you should do another but with your voice i think some artist comming up would appreciate that

  • this is the coolest thing ever

  • *salutes* I accept! I'll try to not make it look goofy! *gets shot*

  • That's a really good idea! Too bad I draw cartoons and wouldn't know how to complete something as detailed as this...

  • Hey chris what kinda brush are you using for that black lines ?

  • @phatbastard0alkaline ...It's one of the smaller "spatter" brushes that come with PS.

  • Am I allowed to post my finished version on Deviantart? I'll of course credit back to you.

  • @omenway of course! I'll clarify that in the desc.

  • @cgsbgs I will draw it with a pencil and then finish it is that alright

  • @Mrthestyle1 ive been far too busy currently with work atm so its a bonus because i dont have to actually draw the monster since its already provided and since im not that good would cut me around 2-3 hours :P

  • Comment removed

  • wowowow i must try this1!!!

  • Oh my goodness thanks!!!!!!

  • Wow. I wish I was a decent artist, I'd love to be able to do this.

  • Chris, you should put links in the description if people show you their version, so everybody can see :)

  • @Beeeplaty - no look... people do a videoreaction. So all the videos can be seen by everyone. ;)

  • It looks like you drew Gabera from Godzilla's Revenge.

  • I'd try but I'm not using Corel Painter anymore, it would take me some time to get used to it again.

  • the link works ;D

  • I'd gladly try this out but, can someone recommend a good screen recording software?

  • @DigitalizedArtist Camstudio! :D

  • @MsDevilDawg Everytime I've tried recording high quality videos in camstudio, it crashes when trying to render the recording. D: Any advice, apart from turning down the quality?

  • @NikiPaprika reinstall

  • @DigitalizedArtist Camtasia works find for me

  • I can give it a try.. But it won't be that cool..

But overall it's a wonderful idea!

  • and maybe we can get some tutorials so its dont get to crappy :D

  • ah, worth a try! :)

  • you can draw pretty fast

  • Finally been waiting so long to practice on my colouring! thanks!

  • @Dibbysins why were you waiting instead of just improving it by starting some new piece of art?

  • If i would have cs5, already used the trial :o

  • I cam start something but not finish it:( maybe you should ask people to start a drawing with a sketch and then you finish it

  • how transform your pencil of this form... tell me please!!!

  • @garudoz1 If you have photoshop you could try using filter -> artistic -> paint dabs, filter -> brush strokes -> spatter, and filter -> distort -> diffuse glow. You'd have to experiment with the order and the amounts, but I think you can get a pencil effect from them.

  • @garudoz1 I found this too, it'll probably help more: (won't let me post links so go to google and type in: photoshop pencil effect, second link should say Photoshop converts a Photo to a Pencil Sketch)

  • but ill have to do it straight from the jpeg

  • challenge accepted

  • epic idea :D

  • I can't make myself do this, it will just ruin Chris Scalf's amazing work!

  • @qSkellp Nooo. Come on , now... ;-)

  • @cgsbgs hey chris, I'm not very good at painting on a computer but I still want to try this out so I'm hoping you won't mind. It will be good practice:)

  • Awesome idea

  • Second! :)

  • first
