The US imposed a 5 year trusteeship on SK between 1945-1950. The koreans got tired of it all, they wanted independence not another occupation. That led to the outbreak of the korean war. Oil is one issue. It's sad, but there wasn't exactly a ton of reasons left for the Iraq invasion. North Korea does have a few more stuff though.

@neddur1 The question: is/was it smart to deliver food for 10% of the population and the few barrels of oil, but still the north korean oil consumption of 13.000bbl (some of that is used by the few tourists and human organizations) compared to the south korean with 2.251.000bbl. 24 million north vs 50 million population in the south. When the deliveries were reduced, the high party members didn't feel it, but the poor/old people which died and millions were (even more) hungry.
