Actually as long as you've been paying attention in Mandarin class or whatver, you can understand perfectly what they're saying, their accents aren't that bad or big enough to interfere with the understanding. And yes, no such official language as Taiwanese, it's basically Mandarin that is spoken with a bit of a Taiwan accent.

Haha. Cangaroo's right. I speak Mandarin and when somebody's speaking Taiwanese I have no idea what the heck they're saying. Some words do sound alike, but the accent and inflections etc. are really different. I've also noticed that sometimes, some of the stuffy they say aren't translated in the subs, so I'm glad I can understand anyway. :D

Wow you are all very confused. They're speaking Mandarin. The show is set in Taiwan, so they've got Taiwanese accents and Taiwanese ways of speaking, but it's still Mandarin. Taiwanese, the actual language, is totally different and does not sound like Mandarin.
