Grieg's last composition, Opus 74, no. 1, (Nov. 1906 - mvts. 2, 3, & 4 were composed a few months earlier). Grieg had long urgently wanted to create this four-movement concert work (Fire Salmer) based on four obscure folk hymns he loved, though they do not reflect his Unitarian beliefs. What he made from them I think is awesome, and this performance is great though barely passably recorded (I wish you could hear the full richness of his harmonies). It took all the strength he could muster.
