Wait, what?! There was a high school girls singing group from 1981-2000 that ripped off the name of the great pop band of 1967-1973, "The Free Design"? How lame is that?! Is there also a boy's singing group that calls itself "The Beatles"?
@bricology Actually, this is a great singing group who does many show's all around the oregon area. The name wasn't ripped off, the creator of the high school group and director of all their shows, Dave Hegdahl, loved the sound of the NOT POP BAND, but group recording artists who loved music and would love to have seen this inspired by them, and decided to name and base his group off of them. Look him up, he is an amazing musical director and can sing and teach people to better than anyone else.
The Free Design - an Establishment-friendly toe in hippie-dippy waters for those with families, kids, jobs....
My mom had a couple of their albums, along with Sarah Vaughn, The Carpenters and such. Even at 10 years old in 1970, I was aware her music collection was not "cool", informed as I was by Uncle Bobby (her little brother), my babysitter, etc. A listen to my friend's older brother's Black Sabbath record confirmed that the Free Design, Carpenters, Beatles etc. were gay, too. Ah, youth....
