@WillinEnglewood lol.. this is my first knowledge of this version, I was introduced to The Jones Girls' version... and initially thought the song was about prostitutes LOL.. but wow.. hearing him sing it is kind of like "hmmm" lol
this was the soundtrack to my childhood starting back in 1970 waiting for the schoolbus and i was 5 years old in south l.a. sitting on my moms bed while she brushed my hair and this song was on the radio then ..i thank you so m uch for posting it..if i havent subscribed to your channel i will now.
i have alway love the night time and this song say it all in my green bug i had custom made eight track with just the styalistics i would only play it when i had a lady in the car it never help but it was so romantic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happened to the good composers & arrangers.. Did they all fade away? These old songs calm the soul... Beautiful Beautiful..!! This what we use to refer to as "Rent a Tile music".... meaning you lock tight with your dance partner, and all the space you need to dance was the area of one floor tile.. Hence you rented that tile for the night.
This is 1 of them songs that make me wish I could save the world.Especially Black folks. And right all the wrongs.Balance everything out.Put all people, places & things. In its proper settings & postions.
IMO this was their best album. Truly ageless...just listen to the words of this song and "People Make The World Go Round"! I've bought it twice and would buy it again if I had to. This is musical wisdom to pass on to the next generation.
The 70's represented for me; High School, College........and the absolute GREATEST MUSIC I've ever listened to. Every trip to the music store, there was something new from the Stylistics, Chi-Lites, Blue Magic, Temptations, O'Jays, Isley Brothers, Earth, Wind & Fire, Rufus & Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Riperton, etc., etc., etc. In short; the ENTIRE 70's was a PARTY! Try going to the music stores today and look for the same quality level of the names I've mentioned.
Amen. Great perspective, and you are absolutely right, you could find such high quality music on the same shelf in that day. You try sifting through the racks at a music store these days and you'll get Lil Wayne, Pit Bull, Lady Gaga, Katie Perry, Justin Bieber, and whoever sang "Do the Dougie", etc, etc, etc... you get my point. Not much sophistication in music today. Thanks for your comment.
"Two Dislikes?!?!?!?!?!?" Lawd have mercy....there are truly some lost souls out there. My deepest sympathies for those who can hate on this classic....
The main problem with today's artist is attitude. They have the wrong attitude to create this kind of beauty. Raphael Saadiq is trying to get to this, but even he misses the mark. But I applaud his effort, because he is one of the earliest evacuees from the hip hop trance that has strangled the artform.
As a child this song used to scare the crap out of me I remember my parents having card parties (bid wis all day Chi town) putting this song on and me crying because I was so scared of it to this day I dont know what freaked me out about it but as an adult I love this version Jones Girls is hot but no where near as good as this!
@CHARMINONEAYERS1 That's deep this song scaring you as a child. Growing in Chicago loved the Stylistics! Loved the music of the 70s but I hated the fashions! They gave me the creeps!
I was in the Navy in subic bay phillipines and this song was so indicative of the little kids that hung in the streets trying to make a little money, poor little kids. but we partied our asses of because tomorrow it was back to the Gun Line in Vietnam. It brings a tear to my eyes.
people. i bet you all did'nt know the story behind this song. i read that the story was about alonely homosexual and he was walking the streets at night. they changed the words of the song to children of the night because it was being played on radio. no joke-this is a true story about this song. please look it up. all and all , the stylistics sings this song so beautiful.
@2vent2011 True story or not....this jam came out when I was back in HS. We weren't concerned
'bout any why's or what's....It was just one of the best songs to slow grind with your lady at basement parties, or get your grove on when your parents weren't home...lol I can see what you're saying now that we're older, I just still couldn't care less....just enjoy the music without over analyzing......
Is it really cost effective to substitute real musicians for tin can reproductions? Too much of today's music lacks the soul that music of this era produced so effortlessly...
Here in Chi-Town, this song received alot of rotation during the early 80's on R&B radio. I don't know why it started to resurface during that point in time, but I'm glad it did.
I have alot of nice memories of hanging out at nite with my high school buddies on the porch steps of our building, just chillin' & listening to quiet storm songs like this one.
Music like this floods my mind of very fond memories of my childhood.......Sadly music of today doesn't compare to this era of sound. This is my saturday morning cleaning music....Now that being said "I'm going to find my album cover and finish sweeping the kitchen!"
Such a pretty song Russell Thomkins delivery again is on point. I here the album when I was a little boy in Brooklyn. I re-discovered this song in Iraq on my headphones. man this song would takw me away. Traestar
This is everyone song...everyone in there life time felt alone...and just needed to talk or to be with just someone!....sing this song sylistics you hit this one on the head.
what happened no locked doors no cops hounding u for the wrong reasons 99.9 of the times i dont think we had a key to our house what happened the suburbs the subperbs we ought to thanks white folks for not wanting us out her now just look at us
I was a child of the nignt before this song came out in '72, it just brought it home..I just came in from roaming the night....I've been searching a long time.
y'know, i've been reading a lot of the commenys about race here on tube. It seems to me that alot of people in your country (black and white) still has'nt learned much. If you do your research you'll find that a lot of great white studio musicians were also responsible for many soul masterpieces. Let's all live in unity.
Wow, I got to tell you -all the you Tube fans. This song may have been release in 1972. I herd it for the first time in Iraq. Wow i just couldn't get enough of it. Every break I got --On with the head phones in the greatest hits Stylistics.
This song have so much truth in it. For some reason I feel allot of our young children has experience or felt this way once in there life time. This song is lovely but it leaves me choked up. In my opinion, this song is very deep.
Its no wonder Russell lead most of the songs, If you ever saw the Stylistics in concert, Russell don't step much with the group. He just hug the Mic and blow!!! He still got that voice today. Thank you for all the great love music over a 40 year span. THE TRAESTAR!
I took this song as us black people we still not in this world because they think that we nothing at all some people think that we still in darknest not wanted. Our little kids walking down the street by themselfs where the parents at?
Or where the rich black class ha help out the poor & the middle class too.
I played this song so much in Balad, Irag. While explosion was going on. the Stylistic took me away from all this war stuff. Just dream of better times. Your mind can leave your body. Good music can take me there. Bring the rest of our soldiers home. Our mission is complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song was sampled by Laroo Tha Hard Hitta (one of my favorite Bay Area Cali rappers) on his "Hood Journal" album called "Late Night"! That version is Dope as fuck, but this is cool too!

@3on3off No they can't because they won't play real music, listen to that instrumental section, that's not a machine, a machine can't deliver that. Then they have to write real words "lyrics" instead of a lot of bumping and grinding and sexing each other up. Oh... I appreciate these old school songs so much.
