@GuitarGuyandDrumDude Mark Evans, the AC/DC bassist before Cliff Williams also played the same bass, a Gibson Ripper before he switched to the Fender Precision.
in my opinion, i think a flying V headsotck would finish this bass up. i just dont like this bass's headstock. it is really ugly lol. a tele headstock would do a decent finish there too. or perhaps some headstock like thunderbird's. but this headstock? boo!!
@stingray614 This bass is a Gibson Ripper. The Gibson Grabber is the exact same bass but it has a flying V headstock and I belive a different pickup. Watch any really old Green Day video and there bassist Mike uses a Grabber. Sorry if you already knew all of this but in case you didnt then you do now lol.
@stingray614 lol yea. This is a Gibson Ripper. Watch the videos for Longview or Basket Case by Green Day. That bass in those videos is a Grabber and has the V headstock. (I know I reference Green day alot but they are my favorite band lol and I cant think of any better examples off hand)

You must of pissed off your bassist and have a bitter taste in your mouth considering you've yet to find another..thats only speculation into your comment that you think music can be made without a bass. Blood Red Shoes? Riddle me this name a band that went platinum and didnt have a bass player. In the mean time read a book on music or attend MIT and major in music theroy. WOW!
if i was cliff williams i would be realy happ imean there a huge ass band or were but still ive only been playing about a week getting better but have a long way to go :D

oh my god...try to play bass and you'll realize it is a looooong way cooler than guitar.....everyone plays guitar...and there's nothing rocker than a bass
Being a guitar player I have to defend the guitar.
Bass can be way cooler than guitar in funk music. Average funk has awesome (slap-) bass in it, which is way better than any guitar you've ever heard in funk music.
But outside from funk, bass is more to accompany the guitar, it doesn't have a real own melody (some exceptions like RHCP). I'm more a hardrock/metal man, and in those genres the guitar is way more important than the bass.
that's the point!!!! for GOOD MUSIC you must have both bass and guitar...sorry but i really can't stand people who say bass isn't important and look down on it...i mean, what would you do without bass??? being a bass player, i have to defend bass ;-)...anyway, i didn't want to say i don't like guitar, because there are stunning solos, but i don't like people who venerate guitar as if it was the only instrument on earth...!

Dude I'm a guitarist and a bassist and I have to say that
Obviously the guitar is noticed a lot more but any MUSICIAN will tell you the bass is an essential instrument.
the wall of sound that you need to sound like a tight band absolutely requires a bass. A good rhythm section with just a drummer and a bassist gives the guitarist freedom to use his intrument to accent sections of the song a little more than just plain old rhythm playing.

Electric guitar is the coolest instrument to me, but on it's own an electric guitar is nothing, it's just a part of a band. Bass has that even more.
A rockband must at least have vocals, a guitar and drums. To fill some gabs you should have bass, an extra guitar and (sometimes) keyboard.
I know rock bands without bass (try: Blood Red Shoes), but a lack of bass leaves gaps, BRS can fill that gap with two vocals.
In that band bass is not a "must".
Arcenicum 2 years ago 2
well, clearly we have different points of view, but let me tell you that i would never listen to a band without bass...all the power and the solid structure of the song would be missing, to me
