  • sorry Roland, preset sounds as crappy as they always were, all those patterns sound like the MC 303

  • Kool

  • i'm watching this demo to see if there is a real difference b/w the 808 & the 909. although i'd love to have either one.

  • Can you use different track lengths with a patters?

For instance, sting sequence of 8 bars running with a boomtsjikboomtjik 1 bar????

On the mpc its always a pain in the ass when you have channel with chords of 8 bars, and you have to copy that 1 bar drum track again.

  • @Roelandvinken i think the only hardware seq that can do that is the rm1x and rs7000.

  • if you want analogue get analogue but this obviously not got loads of knobs its got some classic roland sounds. i have an emx i use for techno but for other styles i use the 808

  • @gurfunkt

At lot of people seem to report that the Electribes are better for techno.

Is it because of the sounds the ESX come with or something to do with the actual control of the hardware?

  • @djsmithy The Electribes have been more popular than the MC series because of their long history and much lower price. They are nice but you get what you pay for. Of course now we have no real choice. Roland dropped production of their groovebox line due to the market domination by software.

  • why doesn't roland make a computer plug in series for computers? something like a native instruments package.

I love roland hardware but I would like the option of having computer plugins.

  • @andycas076 Because the market is already saturated and there are already big names in that world that do the job probably better than Rolands hardware does. What I would like is the other way round, for roland to do what they did best, but better.

Re-release all those classics like the tr-808/909 and tb-303 all those classic synths juno/jupiter etc and introduce more modern features into thier sequencers.

  • Guys guys where do you find forum for the mc-808 where ppl. exchange rhytms or files sounds Etc. even get some tutorials for the MC-808

  • It sounds good and easy to use

  • if you are on this channel, you are interested in making music and know a little bit about hardware, so if roland basically made a tr808 and a tb303 in one box with software editing with no fancy trimmings, would you buy it or spend your good money on another mc box? all i hear is people looking for tb and tr clones so why dont roland just make one instead of making trendy music boxes that sound out of date within a couple of years

  • Roland, you could do far more better and I also wonder why you don't come up with better synths products. Look at the x0xb0x or the Future Retro products! People still want analog + retro gear. But you rather do your MCs which are not considered by synths lovers! Look at those with a well thought reborn of their old products like Korg, Akai or Moog. We know that the TB303 was a flop when it came out, but why you don't learn from it? I have no Roland synth yet, but I would by a good one for sure

  • the roland jv10.80 is ok and my MC 303 is an ok TR808 clone but that is all i use it for, i got it about 10 year ago and was well ripped off. i know kids who got the MC 505 and said it was shit. so i think the 808 will be shit too. its more of a DJ tool than a musical instrument for the pro, semi pro artist

  • 0:47 holy jeez

  • why do you have to buy cards for it, why cant they build them to a max spec instead of treating the customers like fools. novation anyday

  • Nice feature .... I have 34 cards full of effects and loops.; That's the purpose of cards

  • but how much do the cards cost? why cant you just use a pc instead of spending good money on cards. some of roland kit sounds good and i still use mc 808 for a drum machine, but they try to milk you out of every penny by needing the use of cards etc

  • and of course, memory cards fit in your pocket .... try that with a PC or a laptop!

  • thats what a hard drive is for, or i can buy a cheap £1 mem stick and put that in my pocket :) are the mc 808 cards used for storing info or do they have patches etc on them? all im saying mate is why dont roland build the machines to full speck instead. akia did the same with the s.2000 sampler, you had to buy extra mem and a effect's card for the damn thing. it should have already been built to full speck, thats why i dont buy hardware anymore, software has very little limits

  • All I'm trying to explain is that it's all about portability and ruggedness and what fits your needs and your budget. Fully loaded samplers are fun to use in a studio but on the road you want to keep things simple and functional..

Besides, if you buy a sampler that can be expanded .... then what's the point?

  • i got a feeling i would get stung with the 808 like i did with the 303. i remember all the adverts etc for the 303 saying it could do this and that. you could put it in sound module mode, what they didnt say was when in sound module mode, you lost all control over the patches, plus the midi clock threw all other time critical instruments out of sync. i had to buy a filter called a fat boy and other stuff for it. a total nightmare. was made to think it was like a tr808 n tb303 with much more?

  • so whats your bad comments about the 808 then? there must be something about it that you would like to change or have built in

  • The purpose of having the memory card option is that there are no limit in expanding the MC-808 ... unlike a IPhone for example where you get what you buy and that's final

  • bet there is something you want the mc 808 to perform but you cant do it, so you go out and buy an mc 10,0,10 lol just like all the other mc gear. better off with novation gear. cheap'ish does what you want it to do. and you know its been made by a synth freak and not a money man. i will never spend another penny on roland because they put limitations in the kit to make you spend more dosh, like mem cards etc

  • MC 202, 303, 505, 808, 909, bla bla bla!!!

nice kit for what they are but you could spend your money on better kit. roland has really milked the MC gear

  • this or esx or emx ???

  • give me the analog stuff

  • I just Luv mine :-)

  • Great machine :) Yeah :P

  • I don't care for this box at all. The 303 and the 505 feel like INSTRUMENTS. The newer ones feel more like a piece of gear, like a mixer or an eq, ya know what I'm saying? They just don't feel right. None of Roland's new stuff does.

  • heaqrd its one of the poorer groveboxes for the money.

  • Would I beable to make acid house if I get this?

  • Gmancrap: if you get a synthesizer too and if you have the necessary fantasy.

you probably would succeed even with less expensive gear, if you have talent.

  • yes, yes and YEs!

  • Wait lol im sry but what is this a response to?

And I heard a lot of bad things about the Roland Mc 808 is it still a good machine?

  • Get the fucking 808. It is bad ass especially for live performances. The motorized faders are fucking great. No jumping when you switch from synth to synth etc.

  • But I heard that you needed to use the computer to get the most out of it.

  • Only if you use it for sampling. I have only hooked it up to my computer a couple of times in the past year. If you are transmitting midi it is no different than any other drum machine.

I transfer midi from my emx as much as I do with the 808.

  • Don't expect to get that authentic TB303 sound.

  • hey how can i listen one part in my headphone and not be heard on my audio output?

  • Comment removed

  • Can i use my guitar with this???

  • That is badass. Damn. It memorizes your actual settings with the nobs. Crazy!

  • Yeah I own one. And it is absolutely awesome!! I love it <3

  • I own 3 and I just like to smash them witha baseball bat and swing then into my poll with my ferrari xD

  • that thing is sick and well worth the money

  • Ive got a couple questions. How do you create a synth riff on their? do you have to use an external keybaord? and does this work somewhat like an mpc with its own sounds?

  • nope u dont HAVE 2 connect a keyboard you can play riffs/drums (just like an MPC) on the white buttons below but i would prefer a keyboard

but u DO need a pc to control it fully

    Have fun

  • I've got for personal reasons no PC hooked up in my studio and I'm still able to use the MC-808 sample functions without any problems..

I'm even glad this machine does it without needing a PC for every single sample/or/bit, because that's also the single reason why I bought it; to use it as sequencer and basic sampler next to my Akai S-2000, S-3000XL setup; without the horror of possibly crashing PC's..

  • Sorry if i was misinformed ;)

i thought i saw that somewhere

same here man, only use the MPC's2000xl/4000 to seq & sample

Crashing is a bitch & scrolling with a mouse 2

i already learned that on the Atari 1040 ;)

    (Analoge)Hardware 4 live!

  • It's the only hardware you can really depend upon. The real instrument at your fingertips or a XX" monitor where you can't feel anything of your keys or knobs ... musician in one box ;)

No limitations or soundcards or cpu power, disk space anything like that; just analog power for the win! Turn it on and play! :p

I'm glad there are more thinking likewise! cool! Keep analog living on forever! :p

  • I think that less = more

the less(gear/options)u have the more creative u will be with it,and realy learn 2 control it(like the old days)

with Progs u have 2 many options and u will often be scrolling more than

    actually playing music

    not 2 mention the sound!

Sometimes i think i was more creative

    when i only had 2synths a 909 + Atari/MPC60, then all the of gear i have 2day ;)

  • PC editing also lacks a few other options like real tactical feedback, being able to see everything in an overview, fast patching without breaking your fingers, live performances are more controlled ...

To have a PC as an extra, with protools for example, I could understand, but to use it as main production studio does really limit creativity in a single box ...

Check out my videos, some of them have an overview of what I got connected in my studio .. enjoy !

    ---

    Keep the creativity flowing!

  • The problem with these NAMM demos is sometimes you can't tell if a sound is part of the demo or something else in the background.

  • what a goofball

  • that guy was a serious loser

  • swr dis is alll dat

  • h8 new sequencers like this all of it sounds weak sampled and cheezy. im sticking to old school rolands.

  • loop heads will have their creativity killed with computer onscreen editing. the great thing about the older SP-808 is that you could do this editing and visually see a waveform on screen.

  • how good is the external midi control?

  • may be interesting, but im absolutely sick watchin your left hand tellin me shit..

  • Check me out...I have the 808 and did some sample chops. You know the problem with this box... you have to use a computer with it in order to get the full benefits. Thats a SIN as far as using groove boxes (groove box users are supposed to be able to get the hell away from the computer)The fact that you cant multi-sample on the actual unit itself... SUCKS !!

  • those are just preset,bullshit

  • i know that i commented before about this thing what that i've heard good demos from it but anyone on here that has played it already, how dope of music can you really get out of this thing cus i want to use it for electronic/industrial style music.

  • somebody make me some hip and extended jazz and latin patterns..I don't need the club thing. THen I buy.

  • haha.

    "hit song in 20 seconds"

    Looks like FUN (:

I'd do that in my spare time fer sher

  • Just got a MC-909 for $500 at the pawn shop

  • roland is the best choice

  • what false advertisement. some poor shmucks gunna buy this cause you made a premeditated black eyed peas joint, and it didn't even sound good. it was like a 4 bar loop that just sounded stale. shame shame.

  • yeah your right, but... you can't deny the fact that people can make some hot shit with something like this

  • If you're saying that the motorized faders are false advertising, there are videos of people who filmed the faders moving, It's not a lie.

  • CAN YOU SAY...M-P-C?

  • LAWL, IGNORANCE!

  • HOW MUCH?

  • HE SAID ITS $1249

  • it's like 800.00 now

  • You can find it online for like $599.

  • where? cus if i can cut 200 off the price i'll get it their

  • search google shopping.

  • Hi . Im a mc808 lucky user. anyone know where can i download patterns or songs to import at my 808 ? im tired always hear the same presets. anyone wants to exchange songs ?

  • any1 know the equipment needed to loop tracks form your comp onto a pattern without a memory card?

  • yes that or we could play moonlight sonata over and over again on a classical guitar until the end of time

    choice is yours

  • on the surface, you're right. less people can play an instrument these days, but when you look deeper into it, there are people doing really creative things with samplers and electronic techniques, like justice, aphex twin, daft punk, 9th wonder, basement jaxx, etc. we grew up with electronic music and music made with traditional instruments. there's nothing 'instant' about electronic music. to get the sound you want takes a lot of practice and effort, just like learning a "real" instrument.

  • Agreed. Most electronic musicians are pretty talented with "real instruments". Daft punk started as a drummer/guitarist and sample their own playing as an example. Guys like the beastie boys started as a punk band, etc.

  • @destituteillusion your stupid daft punk are Major Musicians those Fuckers Compose.

9th wonder too. that foo is a straight musician, he studies the History of Music.

  • "Of course you have your electronica" (plays back something vaguely trancey)

  • nik tout la 808 serieux

  • A lot of people love that Roland SH-201 uh especially using it with the 808

  • pink blue tonight....

you sight you flight i likin

    you right

  • aha, someone else playing in the back, lol.

  • how can i get more songs or patterns for the mc808 ? any web page?

  • how much does this machine go for? A few thousand?

  • It's retailing around $795 lately brand new. Can probably grab a used one on eBay for around $400.

  • Wait for the ending! Really impressive, but obviously this guy spent a lot of time rehearsing!

  • wow

  • thats fuckin awesome yo!!!! my dads got one of does yeahhh!!!!

  • roland avec que des sons plus du tout a jour !!

  • nice end!!

  • Holly crap!

    Im amazed!

  • WOW.. damn the dude is a musician... so is the machine

  • hi i am having problems with sampling,i can not take samole after 2nd time is says memoreyfull can u plese help me thanks

  • did you expand the memory

  • shit, i really wish i had bought one when i had the money, d'oh!

  • this is the best thing i bought! ever!

  • Its Amazing. Retails at $1299CAD

Under 24month Purchase, $50/mth. Now Thats The Next thing In My Studio

  • Very interesting.. could be very useful if I just had some extra money...

  • Dugh. roland is the best.

  • I got one and it's awesome. Price is down to $700 for a new one.

  • awesome...

  • "It's a SAMPLER! You're supposed to SAMPLE!"

He's right.I was set on getting an RS7000 but this is making me think twice..Anyone using one of these?

  • i use it but i dont know a damn thing about how to sample

  • Plug in a mic and hit record XD.I seriously recommend it.Try recording a sound from scratch and processing it through the onboard effects, experiment even if you don't know quite what your doing yet.Nothing better than taking you own sound and twisting it into new ones ;)

  • -read the manual-

don't tell me you burned it... ;) :)

  • It's a SAMPLER! You're supposed to SAMPLE!

  • Why do no companies put interesting presets on their samplers...that thing is cool but sorta overpriced. korg makes better stuff for cheaper.

  • I love this! It taught me something new! I am going to get this!!!!

  • quite nice/but expensive

  • That's badass.

  • whoa i have an sp 808 and now I need to upgrade..LOL

  • jeah nice :)
