  • PURIST LEAVE IMMEDIATELY OMG WARNING HIGH NOTE WARNING!

Seriously though, that was beautiful. Great tenor.

  • Charles Craig sang all over the world. It is not correct to say his career was mostly in England. there are several "live recordings of his performances in Argentina with Sutherland in Norma and Don Carlos with Gwyneth Jones. He also sang Otello many many times in Europe He sang in Norma with Callas in Paris and also broadcast on RAI ..He was not aclaimed world wide in the way some people have been . He should have been though.

  • I have all known recordings by this great tenor - except a rare album called "Fame in a night". Does anyone have this?

  • @bretul .Charles CraigsFameIn A Night recording has been issued by Testament on 3 different cds along with a selection of Neaploitan songs and English ballads. You can buy it on Amazon.

  • Magnificent!

  • Is this not Lehar's "Land of the Smiles"?

  • Woo HOO! What a voice. Thank you for posting! Like my friend, Tom Froekjaer (who sent this to me) I had never heard this wonderful voice before. Bravo. I, too, love that last high note. I have this song (in German) by the greaet Max Raabe. I love both versions. Would love an actual translation of the German. Again, thank you! I enjoy everything you post.

  • Never heard of him before - a great voice. What I REALLY notice about him, though, is his heart and involvement. Don't care what language he sings, he communicates the essence. Great, Theo, thanks ! - 5 stars for finding him.

  • Transporting .

    Five *s

  • Charles Craig was splendid and very "italianate" tenor. He had a beautiful lyric tenor voice and was probably held back only by his lack of height. However, later in his career he made a big name in Italy as Otello and is remembered especially for singing it in the Ducal Palace in Venice.

  • In which recording did Gedda do that? I posted his 1953 recording some time ago where he doesn't. Coincidentally I know someone who has an excellent Rudolf Shock LP that has this aria and I recall a high note at the end but I'm not sure if it's the Db. I've got to get that record so I can transfer and post some of the recordings.

  • Like that final high note, good stuff.

  • I also prefer the German version, but the singing is great. I have nothing against the top ending, in fact, I like it.

I agree that the new You Tube is a mess. I wonder if they don't have anything else to do than to change things that were OK.

  • Wunderlich also takes a Db in the refrain (his early 1960s live radio performance).

  • Good singing although I'm not too crazy about this or any of the English versions of this aria. Would like to hear more from him. Guess Bonisolli wasn't the only one to add an over-the-top ending to this. Ugh this new YouTube format is really shitty!
