  • @DphL0 Just responded to an ignorant Scot who claimed that we Scots don't recognise Scots-Canadians as one of us: "Bollocks, feller. My village in Perthshire, Scotland, flies a Canadian flag all year round, and we know about the Scottish military tradition in the Canadian army. Thanks to all the Canucks for keeping our culture alive over there." Hope this helps to balance your opinion of modern Scots. We aren't all half-wits. Donald Mac (distant family in British Columbia).

  • That's awesome to see Canadians celebrating their Celtic heritage and keeping the traditions of their Scottish forebears alive. I'm a Scot and it seems to me a great honour to see Canadians of Scottish blood being so proud of their roots.

  • baggysmells next time your there and you see retired Sgt David Harrison tell him hi for me, he my cousins, i was also member of the 48 th, he can tell you how long the family has been in the 48 th

  • i see my cousin SGT Dave Harrison marching with the vets. My family been with the regiment since 1891. My dad fought in Sicily during WW2 , my brother was member and i was with the cadets and the regiment i left the cadets as Sgt. from the family of the late John (rocky) John Jr and myself Stuart Andrews. we will remember them

  • Thanks for posting, I truly miss the marching and other activities.

  • great video.

  • i am with 48th highlanders cedat core.

  • "gaelicscots" is a cowardly Anglo-Saxon Scottish chauvanist appropriating Gaelic heritage and insulting Canada. Clearly he is also woefully ignorant of the British Empire and the immense sacrifices made by Canada, the 48th and other regiments. I hope he responds to your invitation.

  • You don't have to be a 1st generation Scot to be a Highlander at heart. Many in the regiment are 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation Highlanders.

  • @gaelicscots

Some of the 48th Highlanders of Canada were of Scottish descent, like my grandfather, who was killed on Dec. 25th 1943, at the Battle of Ortona.

  • Nice video.

    Thanks

  • @gaelicscots.

They are not pretending to be Scottish. They are not pretending to be anything. They are Canadian soldiers wearing there regimental colours on Remembrance Day. And to be a "Highlander" means to be part of or to have been a part on The 48th Highlanders of Canada. I'm 1st generation Canadian born of Italian parents. I also served with the 48th. I am a Highlander.

You may have been born in the highlands (or Scotland) but you are no Highlander.

  • @gaelicscots

BTW, The next time you are in Toronto, head to Moss Park Armories on a Friday night. Walk up to anyone wearing a balmoral and explain your position about them "pretending to be Scottish". Just bring an envelope with your address on it so they can return your teeth to you. Don't worry about the postage. There's a special fund in the mess to cover such expenses.

  • @baggysmells1975555 I agree with Gaelicscots actually. I do not consider Canadians as Scottish.

They are Canadian and nothing more.

  • @kingdomofdalriada Canadians are not Scottish, they are Canadian. You are Canadian when you are born in Canada or become a citizen. THESE and THIS Canadian are Highlanders because we served with the 48th Highlanders of Canada. The 48th are not some group of guys who play dress up and march in parades. They are an outfit who have been answering the call for the past 149 years. Our blood has been spilled and we've spilled the blood of our enemies from the Boar War to Afghanistan.

    Dileas

  • @baggysmells1975555 You are not a highlander, unless you come from the Scottish highlands.

  • @kingdomofdalriada First off, being Canadian "and nothing more"? Being Canadian one does not need to BE anything more, to hold our heads up among all the great nations of the world.

Second, Canadians as "Scottish"... the old line goes "Just because a cat has kittens in a bakery doesn't make them currant buns." Scottish culture runs deeper and further than geography, Laddie.

  • @baggysmells1975555 Canadians with Scottish ancestors are not Scots themselves, they are merely Canadians with Scottish ancestors. The vast majority of Scots would agree with this. Scots simply don't regard foreing born and bred people as Scottish.

  • @JesusChristLiesToYou Bollocks, feller. My village in Perthshire, Scotland, flies a Canadian flag all year round, and we know about the Scottish military tradition in the Canadian army. Thanks to all the Canucks for keeping our culture alive over there.

  • @baggysmells1975555 He can come to my village pub in Scotland and tell us that the 48th Highlanders are pretending to be Scots, and we'll knock out his teeth too. We fly a Canadian flag in Comrie all year round. Thank you Canada for keeping Scottish culture alive overe there - and to coming to our rescue in two world wars. Some of us Scots know about Paschendale, Dieppe, etc.
