I've never heard of a 'jello' salad before, but I see you feature a few recipes for this type of salad on here... is it a Southern thing or an American thing? I'm from Canada and I've never seen it before... :)
I learned how to make this in my 7th grade cooking class in 1964 and still have the original scrawled recipe on a card in a box. Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful dish.
I dont know if you guys have ever heard of perogies? I think people add sour cream to it. I remember this from my childhood but totally forget how its made.
I am an orange fanatic and this is just a great combination of all (or almost) all things citrus and orange. Looks like such a refreshing and sweet desert for any ocasion. I think I've seen a salad like this except that it was layered instead of all mixed in. But still looks and tastes delicious.
Jello salads are a piece of American food history that we should NEVER forget. Great for all ages. Great for the budget. Fits every menu. Thanks, Betty for another GREAT salad recipe.
You're welcome for the recipe, Patsy! Jello salads go with just about anything, and you can make them very tasty and they can still be light. Thanks for your nice comment!
Nicely done as usual! For some reason your video's get my brain going and today's idea I had watching your video was... Orange liquor would make it quadruple orange shooters. (I don't even like jello shooters so I have no idea why that thought came to me)
Nice video to watch while sipping coffee in the morning, thanks for sharing!
did you use a different camera? looks different but i loves it :) you look beautiful in black and i love gelatin salad :) thanks betty so much for you're hard work. we all appreciate it.
I am so intirgued by this I want to know how it tastes like, but we don't have those items here in Holland so I have to find items that resemble whipped topping and sherbert
You can replace the whipped topping by whipping some heavy whipping cream and sweetening it with the sweetener of your choice. For the orange sherbet, if there is any flavor of sherbet or sorbet, that would work. I hope you can make it work, but feel free to make substitutions!
that looks amazingly yummy..thanx for the reciepe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Betty, I was just wondering -- can this be poured into a pie crust and made into a (cold) pie form?
bee5120 1 year ago
@bee5120 Yes, it would make a lovely pie. It does gel up to be a soft gel, so don't expect a wedge of pie to maintain crisp, clean edges.

I think it's pretty American, but probably is served more in the South than other parts of the U.S. Thanks for commenting!

That's interesting! I would have been in 10th grade. It was a very popular salad back then! I hope the younger generation will try it!

How long will this keep in the refrigerator?
stellaluna4u2 2 years ago
This would keep well for a week. it's not the type of salad you could freeze and thaw out later. Thanks for asking!

Betty could you use ice cream instead of the sherbert ?
silentfades 2 years ago
I would rather use orange sorbet, but you could use ice cream or frozen yogurt. Thanks for asking!

In Holland, sherbet is called Sorbet, if that helps.
