@ruj1970 If the wolves hadn't been reintroduced under the title of endangered then misinformed farmers/ranchers/hunters would have readily killed them to protect their livestock. While it is important for them to make a profit, it is also important to protect biodiversity. By labeling them as endangered we assured, for the time being, that the wolf pop. would increase.
The original recovery plan was also stupid in retrospect. You can't house wolves in a "confined" national park.

There is rarely a need for active maintenance of the wolf population. The true danger that wolves pose is the outcasts who become active flock robbers and endanger humans.
While it is at times necessary to cull of a certain % of a pop, it is rarely needed and often causes more harm than good. (Department of Wildlife)

We artificially separate ourselves somewhat from the rules of ecology through technology so in some ways we are not natural.
I have never posted anywhere that we should stop hunting. Being an avid hunter myself I know how much it can help economically and it's pleasures. I am against the active hunting of wolves to cull.
