Great "Life Without You" tone!! Way to keep a true emotional song alive Anthony! Love the feeling that you put into it, true blues blues in my book! SRV would hit the LIKE button on this one for sure
Anthony, ur a huge help, this video along with the 1/2 hour hendrix chord vid immedietly helped me...u make a huge impact on ppl...thanks so much dude
are you using any effects? Or are you running straight into the amp, then mic'ing the amp? Sounds great. I'm gonna go pick up a Blues Jr. NOS in a couple weeks.
Anthony, i am a big fan of you, i watch your videos every day, its a shame i cant buy your DVD cos i live in Argentina, but anyway, you are an inspiration to all of the blues men and im really glad that you try to keep the blues alive specially Stevie Ray Vaughan. anyway, i really think you have to do a review of the white strat, she is the prettiest guitar you got.
Im sorry, not to insult your fantastic playing an skill but 3:32 to 3:38 sounds straight out of Bold as Love, jamming version off that purple LP in which name escapes me as of now. Just saying but otherwise great little amp, I have one with a vintage 30 in it and boy does she sing
I have a similar set up to you and have ordered videos in the past from stevie snacks. Could you post what settings you have your blues jr. on in this video. thx...
@gr8bluesgtr Is this before or after modification of this amp? What are your thoughts if any on the Tx red edition of the blues jr (Celestion as opposed to the Jenson?)
During the solo at 1:31 what pedal did you kick on for the extra overdrive? Do you have any idea what settings you were using? I just tested this amp at Guitar Center and I was surprised at how bright it was. Maybe I didn't tweak it right. Also, what pickups are in this strat?
You rocked that one up nicely. I just bought a Fender Blues Junior Tweed Relic this weekend on ebay. I didn't really realize that there were so few of them made with the relic'd tweed finish. I'll check out your website for some pointers and hints.
wow you can really play man. I have the same 15w tweed amp. It is awesome for SRV's style. you are using 12's right? What were your tone settings on the amp? and were you using pedals?
wow man you can really play. i have the same blues jr tweed amp and its so good for SRV's style. you are using 12's right? and what were your tone settings on the amp or pedals? if you don't mind me asking
Awesome Anthony! This is the stuff that makes me want to continue learning to play guitar! As soon as I get through the course I'm working on now, I'll be ordering your stuff...
I've been looking for a new amp and came across this video..the strat and amp sound excellent...but your guitar skills are nothing short of awesome...
Inspiring playing! I have a nice custom shop Strat and I am still searching for this tone. Love the rakes, really adds some flavor. Is your tone more in the blues jr or the blues driver pedal? Been looking at both...anything modified?
lovely playing!!! Aside from hearing Stevie and Albert King Licks, I also heard some BB King before you kicked on the screamer. Great Playing, Tone, and Phrasing.
I played through a Blues Jr this past weekend for the first time. I thought the tone was great! I wasn't playing anything heavily overdriven but the clean is fantastic and when I put overdrive FX it represented well. I'm not sure why they get bad reviews either. This guy's pulled some sweet tone out of it too.
What I don't get is why the heck do people think blues jr.s suck? Listen to this tone and then tell me they suck. This is some of the best SRV tone I've heard on youtube
Sounds great! Your left hand grip is pretty Hendrix-like. I don't know that I could keep my thumb around the top like that. You don't find it more restrictive to play like that (obviously not)?
I don't really know how to play any other way. I find this grip essential enough to this style of playing that I created a nearly 2 hour premium lesson about it called "The Grip". If interested, there's info on my site about it :-)
Yeah man! I almost ALWAYS play with that grip now. Ever since I learned Little Wing, Bold As Love and Life Without You, I find myself getting into that grip shape as soon as my hands touch the neck. It's just soo comfortable, and you can easily pull nice licks outta it :)
Ditto. I think it sort of is the most 'natural' grip since your wrist remains pretty straight. However, for me at least, bigger stretches are quite challenging.
this is pretty sweet. i play blues-metal. SVR inspired the blues in my guitar playing. i kinda do it a lot different though. but gotta love the good old blues. blues guitarists are the real guitar hero's. too bad people my age dont listen to stuff like this anymore. you are mini SVR
@gr8bluesgtr That looks like the same guitar I picked up a while ago. 96 mim light banana yellow, mine is the se or anniversary it has the vintage tuners. Is that neck sweet or what? Honestly, the nicest strat neck I ever wraped my fingers around. Your video loses it's picture around 2:45 is it the high resolution?
steve man.........I love you buddy......beautiful tone..I see a mic on that little guy..tell us what your doing ?see u dont have to be loud to be a f--king bass ass.. oh u did get loud...great shit mad my morning.. doug
As you can "hear" you dont need equipment 5000 bucks up to sound like SRV. I own a normal Blues Junior by my own and its verry hard to get your sound stevie. But I think there is a slightly difference between the normal and tweed BJ. Stevie you sound absolutely amazing with this little amp. Thank you for posting this vid. Greetings from Berlin Germany.
love the sound and playin ... i ve got one to, great for clean stuff and take pedals very well. I ve just got boss bassman pedal (fender) and both of them together r just amazing ...
you really are brilliant.. you are the reason im getting this amp, mine has the celestion vintage 30 in it tho, sounds sweeeet. ive learnt some great licks from you. thankyou
The free portion of the lesson called "Hendrix Style Chords Lesson" or something like that shows the chords, but I teach it will all the little hammer-ons and stuff in the "Chords" lesson in my "Original Ballad Series".
I so enjoy your videos.I have learned a great deal from them/I have a 60 relic Strat,a Blues Junior(Tolex),and a 59Bassman Ltd.My question is:Which Jensen speaker is in the NOS version of the Blues Jr.I am going to modify my tolex amp to get that sound if possible.I am disabled recently, and can't spend like I use to do.Leep up this great service you are providing. You are a great public servant!
What type of strat are you playing with? my god this amp sounds beautiful. You cant put a price on that sound! I was going to get the normal blues junior but this one really wins my vote! keep it up man!
Sweet playing. Thanks for sharing your music. Your passion for guitar shines through every bar.
Your song and playing convinced me the NOS Blues Jr. would be the perfect amp for playing live in small settings, so I picked one up this week and have been amazed.
sh!t! i really love this kind of blues, its so feeling!... just love it! if any plz can tell me some bands that play this kind of music i will be so glad with u..
Kenny Wayne Shepherd had a MONSTER song called "Live On" that was very much in this vein, and the band Indigenous had a great song on their last album similar to this.
13 years has done you so much good with that thing. SRV's a one and only, but you could easily make a joe bonamassa, jus gotta learn ta sing the blues, if you dont already? oh and i think ive got the same guitar as you, apart from the pickups maybe cus ive got some hot rails in the bridge.. anyway thaks for giving a 15 year old a shed loader insperation .
Trust me, there's plenty of blues players on YouTube to keep anyone humble. Nothing like seeing a 16 year old kid play stuff you've never been able to figure out to keep your ego in check :)
i agree, and im 16:D im really trying to get my feeling into what i play sometimes it can come along and when it does im so happy since i can tell ive put it in but its very rare :( well like srv said "u feel it first then u do it, it takes your whole life to do these things"
If its any comfort I guarantee when you're only a little older (18\19 or so maybe) playing with feeling with be as easy as breathing...I guess it's all connected with emotional development etc. After that the problem is making sure it always SOUNDS good. Feeling ain't enough on its own.
I learned all my speed in the first 3 years of playing. The last 10 have all been spent polishing, and learning to play with feeling. So many more variables to learn when you get to that stuff :)
The tone I'm getting is only partly due to the amp. Really it's a combination of all the gear. Check out the demo page over at StevieSnacks (dot) com and I list all the gear and all the settings. That might give you a better idea of why it sounds that way!
That's a good one, but my favorite, and the one that has influenced me the most is the live performance of the song that they bundled with the reissue of the In Step album. Right at about 9:23 is one of the fattest guitar tones I've ever heard. Amazing....
thats me sold .....loved it .

Trust me, there's plenty of blues players on YouTube to keep anyone humble. Nothing like seeing a 16 year old kid play stuff you've never been able to figure out to keep your ego in check :)

I always find younger kids, like 16 or younger, can have great technical ability but never get the feeling in.

i agree, and im 16:D im really trying to get my feeling into what i play sometimes it can come along and when it does im so happy since i can tell ive put it in but its very rare :( well like srv said "u feel it first then u do it, it takes your whole life to do these things"

I have that same exact amp, but I can't get that kind of tone! How did you do it???
mynameisjacob 3 years ago
The tone I'm getting is only partly due to the amp. Really it's a combination of all the gear. Check out the demo page over at StevieSnacks (dot) com and I list all the gear and all the settings. That might give you a better idea of why it sounds that way!

That's a good one, but my favorite, and the one that has influenced me the most is the live performance of the song that they bundled with the reissue of the In Step album. Right at about 9:23 is one of the fattest guitar tones I've ever heard. Amazing....
