  • So beautiful, so warm, so straight from the heart. Gary is amazing!

    Thanks for uploading this video.

  • This dude is the reason I love Jazz music!!!

  • Wonderful Gary !

  • Some of the best fretless work that I've ever heard.

  • 30 years yesterday Bill Evans died. His tunes live on though.

    Beautiful bass playing on this.

  • wow

  • fretless bass for the win..i love slapping, doublethumping, open hammer pluck type tecniques...but as a true bassist...nothing can beat the fretless techniques..to be honest...its alot harder than slapping...and alot of people dont realize that...ill drink to that

  • simply amazing... i would dare say gary willis is currently the best living bass player. this is such a challenging tune & he lays down a more expressive solo than anyone i have ever heard... including bill evans.

  • This man scares me. I had to buy this bass.

  • Awesome!

  • No words can describe the beauty of this. . .

  • magic

  • the actual "mistake" is at 4:06-4:07. you see he knows he went to the wrong place in the melody and quickly corrects himself. still pure genius

  • hey man... thats not a mistake... its just a outside bend.

fuck off with the "mistake thing"... hes just perfect, dammit. :^\

  • @speirsz : niet zeuren en zeiken, spreisz.

Blinde fans zijn altijd het ergste.

  • @emilk2009 liever blind dan doof

  • @speirsz he is human...

  • I really like Gary's compositions. he's a nice cat, too... met him back in '90.

  • @smoovegittar

    this isn't a gary willis composition.. =)

  • this is "bill evans " bros!

  • just beautiful n/t

  • I love this guy's approach, totally speaks with the voice I try to emulate on my fretless.

  • gary willis is the best on fretless bass, own sound, constant evolution, experimental, technique and its sound and language is recognized and emphasized in any music style where plays

  • yerko-san

  • Steve Bailey is great yes, just different Gary is great too

  • Steve Bailey is amazing at the fretless as well :)

  • @woggleboggle

Ron Carter and Eddie Gomez aren't too shabby either on the 'fretless' ;)

  • Interesting right hand technique. His intonation is about the best I've heard on electric fretless. Plus he can make the changes like a sax player. Very musical.

  • possibly my favorite living fretless player
