I was also at this race..the firework show after was almost a amazing as this...norwalk hasnt ben the same since the nhra change...if you notice in the beginning a white banner blowing around, its was a giant picture of osama bin laden considering this was only a year after 9/11 it was very fitting. still get chills watching it now

I was at this race. It was purely breathtaking and so amazing. I thought the windows on the tower were going to blow out, they flexed like crazy. I was sitting in the Don Garlits section right up by the starting line next to Kent Shockley's truck. Ive always been a giant fan of Bob Motz though and he had a way faster truck than Kent Shockley

I get goosebumps everytime I watch this....which is like once a week. I have never seen one in person, but I am convinced I will stand 6 feet next to it to soak up the full power. I can't imagine what these could do on a couple mile track. I don't think the rest of the vehicle would take it much over 300 mph. You would be glued to the seat getting pushed back.

Great video! Thanks for posting! I remember seeing Bob Motz and Les Shockley race 1/4 mile, all out, at Thompson Drag Raceway in Ohio about 30 years ago. I don't have a video of that, but I do have a few photo's. It was AWSOME!!!!

If my memory serves me correctly, the first meeting had Les Shockley with ONE engine, Bob Motz won that race. The next year Les Shockley returned for a rematch with the three engine combo and the racing was much closer that time. Those were the days!

@frizstyler It is possible that the rear part of the cab has been completely hollowed out and is merely an empty shell with a large opening leading downward and out to the underside of the truck, from where the jets suck in the air. This could provide sufficient air for the engines to operate while also eliminating the possibility of someone accidentally being in the wrong place and being drawn in. I am only speculating here but the jets seem to lead straight into the cab, hence my assumption.

Aspro is correct, Shockley is the one in the yellow triple-engine semi, I've seen him at air shows racing planes. The engines on the back of the Shockwave are Pratt & Whitney J34-48 afterburning turbojet engines, the same ones used in the T-2 Buckeye trainer jet, each providing about 19,000 pounds of thrust.

The shockey truck has been over 370MPH in the desert. They claim that if anyone ever breaks that record they can reset it easily, that it had a lot left. I've seen both these trucks in person, I can't imagine how loud that must have been with both of them doing burner pops at the same time!

Bob Motz had a better acceleration in this race than Kent Shockley, but it would be interesting to put Bob Motz against Scott Shockley in Super Shockwave (the red Chevy jet truck), because Super Shockwave accelerates better than Shockwave, so I wonder if it would win against Bob Motz.

Motz is in the big yellow rig. He cut a better light but lost the race, meaning that Shockley had better acceleration and was going 5 mph faster at the finish line.....

Great News for all Motz fans!

Put this date on your must list of things to do. Saturday, April 19, 2008, Bob and Scott will be making their first public appearance at the Season Opener for Summit Motorsports Park (formerly Norwalk Raceway Park) in Norwalk, OH.

Bob has been chosen to be the grand marshal for this opening event. The rebuilt race truck will be on display only, (no runs) and souvenirs will be available for purchase at the track.

At this time, Bob is still undergoing physical therapy and all plans for the future of his career with the truck are still undetermined.
