  • I'm not Indian or Pakistani but I love the sound of the tabla and will be buying my own tabla and learn from you. Thanks.

  • so does anyone know what song in the intro to this video. like the one at 0:19

  • Here's a helpful tip. Don't ever try to play tabla with a swollen finger.. hurts like hell.. lol ;)

  • Oh my God! It's so that this is on You Tube! Brilliant!

  • I have just received a set of tabla, my Dayan is set to be tuned at C# , what do I tune my Bayan to? I'm having trouble getting that nice bayan sound.

    thanks for the uploads :)

  • I'm so happy to find the wonderful tutor in youtube. That's what I want to know at this moment! Thank you!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! This helped me on my tabla homework! haha

    I was supposed to practice

    Dha tirikit TaKe TaKe

    Tirikit TaKe Ta Tirikit TaKe

    TaKe Tirikit TaKe.

and I couldnt remember how to play TaKe.

  • @BrandonTheDude haha no worries glad to help :) keep up the practice

  • This dayan needs to be tuned really bad. The "too" bol sounds awful

  • @sangeetambhakta im not sure which note your referring to as "too" I haven't even come across anyone use that word for a note, and its tuned fine. I have about 8 dayans, each has different types of wood, skin and diameter, all that also effects the end sound, maybe your just not familiar with that tone or play that particular note differently(I'm not even sure what note your referring to). Also further on in the video I do say that youtube effected my sound quality.

  • @kav123 You're right, I just made it up. I meant "TUN" but untuned like in the video sounds rather like "TOO". Many overtones colliding, resulting in an undefined tone. 8 dayans, uh? Wow, you're quite lucky! I've only owned 4 of them, of wich I only keep two. One is really mediocre (it came to me for free) but better than nothing. The other one is a really fine one wich has a rehead job way past overdue. By the way, congrats on the videos and web page in general. So useful ! THNX

  • @sangeetambhakta Thanx appreciate your comment! , in Australia its hard to get decent quality dayans at a good price, so I made it a priority to bring atleast one or 2 back on each trip haha, haven't been in awhile tho last set I got I ordered in from sohum enterprises, their website seems no longer accessible tho :(

  • Hi !

would you tell me how much time a beginner should practice daily? and how much time will it take to learn it?

    regards

  • dear friend thanks for your uploads. After waiting for a long time finally i got my Tabla now and started learning with your lessons :)

by the way Ge sound is very tough to play. any suggestions?

  • @nayabnasir no worries :) , for Ge push your wrist just under the syahi. The motion your finger plays is basically like if your clenching your fist, or opening and closing your hand quickly, but obviously with just the one finger instead. So push your wrist under the syahi and then make that motion with your finger.

  • @kav123

Bhai aap se yeh poochna he key

    Dha Ti Dha Ti

    Dha Dha Tire Kite

    Dha Ti Dha Ti

    Dha Dha Tin Na

is kayde me Ti konsa wala he? i mean how should i play Ti ? with my 2 middle fingers on Siyahi or with my index finger next to Na position? i am so confused, please explain me if you can. also give me your email if possilbe.

    thanks.

  • awesome! its the one with sarangi in the background as the lady is speaking right? could you pls tell me from which album is it? thanks!

  • excellent

  • excellent

  • super I like this ......

  • what is garana?...

  • @brancabestia777 garana or gharana, in short is basically different styles of playing tabla such as, beneras, delhi, lucknow, punjab, for more just google "wiki gharana" and Wikipedia has some more detailed information.

  • what's the diff between Ge and Ga? Is it the loudness? also, in the intro of the vid., there is a small piece of Sarangi + Tabla..it's beautiful..do you know who played those? thanks!

  • @saikp difference between Ge and Ga is simple and has nothing to do with the loudness. Ge you play as a closed note, and Ga is an open note. If you watch the video, you notice that when I play Ge my finger stays down closing the sound, where as Ga my finger goes immediately back into the air letting the sound stay open.

Watch lesson 2, where I play basic Kherwa(dha ge na ti na ke dhi na), you'll notice the difference straight away in the first 2 notes Dha and Ge.

  • @saikp the peice u r saying was a jugalbandi by ustad Allah rakha and ustad Zakir hussain.

  • thanks! is the diff between Ge and Ga is the loudness?

  • ok. thanks. I was taught that Dhin is Tin + Ge/Ga. Dha is Na + Ga. How can Dhin be both Tin +Ga and also Na + Ga!

  • @saikp buddy I think you've miss read my comment again, Na + Ga = Dha (I said that in the video and the previous comment) , Dhin can be Tin+Ge(like you said) but mostly played as Na+Ge. I think your getting confused with the Ge and Ga note, Ge and Ga are 2 different sounds.

  • @saikp

  • isn't Dhin = Tin + Ge? it's shown here as Na + Ga?! which is right?

  • @saikp Dhin = na + ge(video says it aswell), some play Ge + tin, and Na + Ga = Dha (also said in the video)

  • thanks for this video

is very goog for how are learning play the tabla.

does somebody know where I can find a vilambit written to study?

  • I have seen almost every basic youtube tabla videos and so far the best!!!!!

  • @digitalgamsawala thanx, that means alot!!!

  • best instructions so far I have ever heard. Thanks a lot. God bless your hands.

  • @chill9280 thx, much appreciated. I'll have lots more videos coming up in January so subscribe to keep an eye out!

  • This is an awesome video, i hope you make more!

  • @VBoodZ thanx!, i did lesson no2. u can check it out in my channel, expect lots more aftr the new year. XD

  • Cool, will definately check it out, its cool you are showing what finger should be suspended or not. Where I live there are not many tabla gurus walking around so the next best thing is to teach yourself, this video has cleared up some confusion i previously has, thanks, really well done video

  • i get more confused everyone has different names for every thing!

  • I learnt from a teacher whose from the benares gharana and another teacher from punjab gharana, these are the most commonly used names for these notes/bols. Students get confused because generally the notes change slightly only for recitation purposes. Eg. Kherwa theka (4/4) Dhit ta dha na | tit ta dha na. "ta" is actually played as na, so its Dhit na Dha na | tit na Dha na, now if you try saying both as fast as you can, you'll notice the first is easier to say - hope this helps!
