  • thank your for sharing this video... whats the title of the song? :)

  • By that time the Russians that failed were sent to Siberia.

  • Beautiful music, takes you back to "heart and guts" training

  • Why does it look like a premise for 80's gay porn

  • Whats the title of the music in the video?

  • @boliviano31

    Hi boliviano,

the title of the song is Melodiya ( written by Alexandra Pakhmutova and Dimitri Illarionov )

You can find on you tube a version of Muslim Magomaev a famous russian singer.

    Greetings from Italy.

  • @cancedda2007 thank you, its good music for me to get me ready to work out or do anything else

  • in last yuri vardanyan gold medal

  • This video is pure art

  • at 3:55 mama thats a bad man right there

  • im not into OL, but this video kicked ass.

  • This is an excellent video

  • Steroids use = better performance.

When we go for any sporting event - all we want to see is the best possible performance by athletes . It's athletes responsibility to perform well and if they are using steroids - then it's their choice

BTW - Boob job also is performance enhancer and we all like it

  • Super

  • Wow what a video!

  • Is that the Armenian stallion at 3:45?

  • only the 80s can produce a montage this good

  • Just awesome. Period. Explosion, grace, strength, flexibility, and power.

  • OMG who made this song?? I must have it!

  • Yuri Vardanian was by far the best lifter in

1980 Olympic games.. Possibly even the best weightlifter ever...

  • @DMGIT Really? Just because his total would have won the gold medal in the next two heavier weight categories?

    I AGREE!!!!!!!!

    :)

  • @sirlew - u got it right. The fact that Yuri Vardanian's 1980 games total in his 82.5 kg category was better then next 2 heavier weight classes without any doubts makes him the best lifter of Moscow games. Yuri was unfortunate to miss 84 games because of dirty political reasons of USSR but between 77 - 87 we was the most dominant lifter

  • in 1980 they were all my heroes and they are always my heroes! I am crying of nostalgia. Thank you.

  • Can someone please post a link in where to DL or buy this piece of music?

  • I sent you PM.

  • poetic stuff

  • your a jackass

  • @arbighookasian wrong

  • @arbighookasian lol :)

  • @arbighookasian your a dumbass...

  • 0:03 Yurik Vardanian looks like Klitchko :)

  • gods among men

  • 2:21 Mario

  • Anyone seen the documentary, "Bigger, Stronger, Faster"? Entertaining perspective on the controversy over steroids. There appears to be a lot of gray areas, but my view is, why use them? Why lie to yourself? I'd rather much say that I was able to accomplish something through pure, hard work, like a true athlete should.

Anyway, Olympic weightlifting is the best sport ever! Also the best display of human performance.

  • I agree, but the use of it is tempting to those athletes because of the pain they suffer. It can make a wolverine out of a man

  • @djkaus1980 agree you dont need stardoid, they just put us dwon, use motavation,, disiplan, and hard work and itll be worth mush more with more respect

  • @djkaus1980 well then why eat food or lift weights in general because doing those things only help you get stronger and according to you its not okay to use things to enhance your performance.

  • @alijw I'm mainly referring to anabolic steroids, and whatever else is banned by the IOC. I'm not sure how you deducted that I am against exercise, because I enjoy this sport as well. There are no shortcuts to any individual's "kung fu".

  • @djkaus1980 I went a little over the top with the no exercise thing but what im trying to say is if something can enhance your performance then why not do it?

  • @alijw Again, take whatever you want, EXCEPT those that are illegal according to IOC. That would be considered cheating, and breaking the law. Personally, I prefer to stick to good protein powders only. That way I can't fall back on anything and say, "Man I really sucked today because I didn't take this or that." for whatever reason. Furthermore, supplements can sometimes turn into "dependents". Back to the main issue, just stay legal!

  • @djkaus1980 well what if it was legal? Me personally i strongly disagree with some of the drugs that are illegal.

  • @alijw Say everything was legal.

performance = realized genetic potential + 0 sports ergogenics

becomes: performance = realized genetic potential + sports ergogenics

It comes down to who can manufacture the best sports ergogenics. No one will want to share proprietary brews with one another, or study long-term effects on the body?

  • Any athlete, who's sole purpose is to WIN by any means, has zero regard for his longevity. I hold a higher respect for those who leave nothing on the platform but their very best through hard work, dedication, and passion, and with today's standards, those who cohere to rules set by the IOC.

  • @djkaus1980 basically if roids were legal all the people competing would use them and it would just be the person who works out the longest and is the strongest

  • @alijw That would be under the assumption that all roids are created equal. Long term effects are still a question. But since you say it's up to who works out the longest and strongest...why get loaded up? Why add unknowns to the impact it may have on long-term health? As you can see, this is a very circular conversation...as was the movie, "Bigger, Stronger, Faster". Best of luck to you in whatever sport you're pursuing.

  • @djkaus1980 well thanks im kinda just being bitter on how the government makes alcohol legal but cannabis is illegal

  • @djkaus1980 it's simply not so. USSR and Bulgaria had tremendous athletes, while such rich for ways of production and medical funding country as USA suck at weightlifting even today. it's not just about the gear, pls dont be ignorant.

  • @djkaus1980 why using gear is lying? or you assume that if you take steroids you need to train less? since every pro athlete is using them, it's the only way to compete on the high level of performance. people were using different stimulators since the Ancient Greece just to win in the competition. it's just now we're able to create more powerful stuff.

  • @delotonkoe I never said train less if you take supplements. Good old-fashioned hard work should always be part of the equation. I don't understand the obsession of wanting certain "enhancers" to be legal. Anyone can take whatever they want within regulations set by IOC. Fair play is part of the Olympic spirit. Enough about lousy supplements! Let passion, not a drug, be your path to victory.

  • @djkaus1980 well since everyone is using them anyway there's no reason to pretend that it doesn't exist.

it's simply not possible for any human ever made to come anywhere close to the great records without using the gear. Human body is just not designed to do that.

moreover, injuries will crush the one who dare, leaving him crippled or even dead.

do you think that bulgariand lifters, who spent all day long in the gym or the years of their lives didn't have enough passion?

  • @delotonkoe If you want to lift heavy, instead of using banned steroids, might as well bring in a crane. Also, just because they used "stimulators" in the beginning doesn't make it right. Cheaters never truly succeed anywhere in life. They're just another Tommy "The Machine" Gunn, all about winning...no heart. You know, I bet I could be the best MMA / boxer / Muay Thai / Krav Maga / Capoeira figher there is if I had an adamantium endoskeleton with regenerative powers.

  • @djkaus1980 steroids only help the athlete to extend the limits of his natural capacities, it's nowhere comparable to a crane or to an adamantium skeleton. Everyone in the elite competitions uses them, so it's not a cheating. It's the only possible way to compete since the 50-s.

    your ignorance is phenomenal.

  • @delotonkoe No ignorance here. I'm well aware of the ethical issues surrounding steroids. I'm sure you would insult some elite athletes if they were to hear you say that all athletes use steroids, on the elite level, or anywhere...if that drug is illegal, it's cheating no matter how many people use them. I think throughout these exchange of messages, everyone's missed the point of fair play...by the rules.

  • @djkaus1980 i know enough elite athletes including the world record holders to know that you can't get anywhere close to nowadays level without using enhancers.

no matter how genetically gifted you are, you can't push your body to that level cause it's simply not designed to do such things.

anyway, lets say we have a young talanted athlete who wants to be the best amongst his kind. what you suggest him to do? stay at his level, knowing that he won't reach anything exceptional?

  • @delotonkoe This reminds me too much of the "pennies for everyone" conversation in the movie, "Office Space". To answer your question, I would have my athletes compete fairly. Those caught trying to cheat the system would get the boot. If they win, it will have been done with an iron will, and with hard work. If they lose...they're still fearless.

  • @djkaus1980 luckily, your perectionist's dreams have nothing to do with the history of sport during all the human history

  • @delotonkoe Again, just because "everybody's doing it", and everybody's not, doesn't make anything right. I'm sorry you need a crutch to feel good about yourself.

  • @djkaus1980 ok, what's ethically wrong with using any enhancer to achieve better results?

  • @delotonkoe Nothing's wrong unless it's prohibited by the governing body of the sport; I don't know how many times that was stated above.

  • @djkaus1980 so those athletes who used it before the middle 80-s didn't cheat anyone and there's nohing wrong bout it?

  • @delotonkoe Doesn't matter when...abiding by rules = good. breaking rules = bad.

  • @djkaus1980 Most olympian's are on steroids.

  • @djkaus1980 Most olympian's are on steroids. Well a very very big amount of them are def on steroids.+-

  • @djkaus1980 because its part of competing...its like saying you want to race with a honda civic in a indy race...its not cheating its just part of the game

  • @Cowboybiglift I think everyone's still missing the point. Who cares if it's "part of competition"? Just like I stated above, if you abide by the rules, that's fair game. If you don't abide by the rules, it's illegal and unfair, regardless if you get caught. Just because the competition is full of cheaters who haven't been caught doesn't mean a competitor should do the same just to keep up; that's an ethical decision every competitor has to make. We're beating a dead horse here.

  • @Cowboybiglift Your Honda Civic analogy does not apply, because it's obviously an F1 race...you're SUPPOSED to race with an F1. There's nothing wrong with using an F1 in an F1 race. It's legal. Is there any other way to say the same thing?

As with any other competitive sport, it's simple enough to check with its governing body to see what is LEGAL and ILLEGAL. If everyone would simply stay within those bounds, this would not be such a hot topic

  • @djkaus1980 and then tell yourself you could have been alot better then what you are

    do you even compete?

  • @SMACKTARDS Yes, I compete, and abide by the rules as far as supplements go. It still sounds like everyone's missing the point. There's a list of

nutritional / pharmacological / physiological ergogenics that's legal and illegal. I've never said to use nothing. Just compete within the rules; it's as simple as that. Now that I've said the same thing 13245 times, argue amongst yourselves.

  • @djkaus1980 so you think, if someone is born with, naturally higher testosterone production then you, say who is predisposed to less injury, and ability to create more muscle, should win? where you have worked just as hard and lost? If you seriously compete in powerlifting or olylifting you would understand. All top athletes use anabolic steroids, some stuff with halflifes so short its undetectable so why bullshit yourself :)

  • @djkaus198

FYI the Olypmics in general is one of the most illegal enhancer saturated industries. Hell in the same documentary it went over Carl Lewis failing an Olympic drug test and the whole Victor Conti BALCO scandel which involved MANY Olypmic professionals. Just saying since you're for pure hard work but such a fan of the Olympics.

  • Who is the fat dude?

That's even more ridiculous than asking "Who is that lanky skinny dude"? about the legendary Yurik Vardanian, who dominated the weightlifting portion of the 1980 Olympics.

These guys are athletes, probably the greatest athletes on the planet; they are not some faggot bodybuilders.

  • That was the greatest weightlifter Vasilii Alekseev

  • 2:28 who is that fat dude?

  • vailli alexeyev i think

  • He was the Russian champion who was unbelievable in his hey day.

  • Simply wonderful

  • HAHA - 2:28

  • weightlifting is very much different today than it was then

  • I'm curious...how is it different?

  • This sport defines pain.

  • and sometimes rediculously small people lifting rediculously huge weights (china... O.o)

  • I dunno bout you all, but this song is creepy.

  • o this is a keeper of a clip

  • This is what happens when USA doesn't attend your olympics. The best weight lifters of that time stayed home. lol

  • Yeah well if you can't qualify you have to stay home! :)

  • US boycotted the 1980s olympics, hence my comment.

USSR in turn boycotted the 1984 olympics.

  • lol @ 2:30

  • Comment removed

  • wow, i got goosebumps

  • whats this song called????

  • Jeez, what a wonderful sport. I'm crying right now.

  • i nearly started to cry, such a beautiful movie, perfect music, perfect sports moments... !

  • Great that everybody's reaction to this video seems to be to be about the weightlifting itself. I just think this is a plain beautiful video in an artistic sense. the editing, the working towards a climax in events, the music, the colors of the footage, the facial expressions, the clearly visible emotions, the emphasis through slow motion. And the final triumph and happiness displayed for a totally passive audience that clap without getting up from their seats. For someone lifting a heavy stick!

  • 1:15 györgy szalai - hungarian hero,my hero too

  • wow not one completed lift

  • Watch the entire video, the successful lifts begin at 2:45. The movie is directed with the wonderful music in mind; slow and somber at the start - during the lifters' tribulations and failings. Then it becomes faster and more cheerfully chaotic - during their personal victories. Finally, the music ends amidst the applause of the crowd and the panning camera showing the faces of the audience.

    I think it's great.

  • This whole video just made it look like Olympic weightlifting in the 1980's was just a succession of giant fails. 'Till the end of course.

  • top sprinter end up just as strong -15 average kilos, and they do it beying considerably lighter. ^^ I discovered this long ago, and it totally broke 1 of my favorite sports... now i no longer do or can respect powerlifting becose a stupid 100m runner can just come with less body weight less training and outlift me like if it where peanuts... and i dont lift light :((( owe the pain. Athletics its really the sport of gods to sculpt their power and elegance... lal im not crazy...

  • Stupid and uneducated opinion - on my internet?

"top sprinter end up just as strong -15 average kilos" What the fuck does this even mean?

"they do it beying considerably lighter"

Weightlifting has weight classess. though even the lightest lifters are probably stronger than the average sprinter.

"or can respect powerlifting" This is not powerlifting

You dont know anything, get the fuck out...

  • everyone was roiding back then.

  • back then? please, wake up. Today they are on juice as much as back then, just different stuff...

  • Yeah but they actually didn't test testosterone levels until 1982 so everybody was free to inject as much testosterone as they wanted.

Nowadays I do believe in natural lifters. Not in the biggest weightclassess but anyway...

  • Of course people still use steroids but it's harder and a lot of hassle. If the ADA knocks the door at a bad moment you are fucked. I'm sure there are SOME people who just decide to do it without juice.

  • Well, testosterone base/suspension has a shelf life of about how much... 24 hrs?? You can still apply a bunch of test patches everyday and be clean the next day (and they cant be easier to get)... Just saying...

Anyway, there's a TON of undetectable steroids out there yet... without forgetting insulin, growth hormone, IGF-1 and other protein peptides... Sadly, I think athletes from the 70-80s were even HEALTHIER than nowadays' athletes which are just experimenting with anything they can get...

  • I know from a lot of people (even my gym owner) that people that juiced at the 80s (even early 90s here in spain) used doses almost Standart. Everybody was using almost the same things and at almost the same doses making a level field "more equal" than today...(and thinking that they used to get the Over the counter is even worst considering they juiced much less than the average gym rat of today). I still think the WADA and politicians are a joke and should worry about more important things...

  • WADA says they look for the health of the athlete and sports...really?20 years ago you still could see 3rd country athletes winning gold medals, now almost everything (where steroids or performance enhancing drugs could play a role) goes to USA,China,Russia and a few 1st world countries...Weird??I dont think so...WADA just make a bigger difference between the 1st world athletes with the "tools" and the rest of the world.I think WADA is worthless and only a business of a few shameless individuals.

  • awesome video!

  • The Best Video for Motivation

  • definently!

  • sure im eating healthy broccoli fruit juice turkey sandwitches rice apples taking good supplements as well winstrol dianabol ephedra thank you for the advice on the stiar workouts it should help

  • Yeah I've used heel cups a lot of the time on the vaulting leg (my left). In my day I was briefly up to around 42" off one leg. Could only do like 34" off two or something. Weird huh? A lot of it is just form getting that high. Kicking the right way at the right time to throw the momentum up and straightening out like a board the last instant before the dunk to raise Center of gravity. And yeah always on that kind of dunk be careful not to lock the knee and try to raw vault it :-).

  • snatches dont MAKE A PERSON JUMP ANY HIGHER THEN DOIN POWERCLEANS I DONT SEE WHY SOMEONE HAS TO DO SNATCHES TO JUMP ANY HIGHER IM STIL GRABBING HALF THE NET BEFORE I EVER STARTED DOIN SNATCHES I WAS DOIN POWERCLEANS COMPLETE FUCKIN WASTE OF TIME THIS HURTS ME REALLY BAD TO THE POINT OF WANTING TO CRY I CANT GAIN ANYTHING IM GONNA GO TRY AIR ALERT AN SEE IF THAT HELPS

  • Hehe. The key to leaps is a stratified program along with some basic natural gifts to some degree. Different leg designs are just more inclined to be able to develop big springs. But explosive outer ROM excersizes mixed with lower stress deep squats etc. Running for cardio (on grass to save knees as much as possible) and STAIRS. Single leg hops. Hop up two, back one, up two, back one etc.. Run backward stairs. 1/4 turns! Take if from 48 yr old 6' wht. guy who still dunks on a good day..

  • heres my lifting stats IM GOIN ON 28YLD HAVE NEVER TOUCHED THE RIM IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE CLOSEST IVE GOTTON IS 5 INCHES FROM RIM NOT DOIN THIS STUFF IM DOIN NOW I SQUAT 275LBS FOR 1 SET 5 REPS 1 SET 5 REPS OF 375LBS.

ROMANIAN DEADLIFTS ONE SET 5 REPS 275LBS 1 SET 5REPS 300LBS FLAT BENCH PRESS 1 SET 215LBS 5 REPS 1 SET 230LBS 5 REPS POWERCLEAN 185LBS 1 SET 5 REPS 1 SET 5 REPS OF 210LBS THEN I GO BACK TO GYM 2 DAYS AFTER AN DO PLYOMETRICS FOR 30 MINUTES THATS IT IM NOT JUMPING ANY HIGHER

  • well everybody I THINK I HAVE DECIDED TO JUST GIVE UP ON THIS OLYMPIC LIFTING THING AFTER 4 EXAUSTING YEARS OF TRAINING SNATCH CLEAN AN JERK ALONG WITH BACK SQUATS AN BENCH PRESS I STILL HAVINT GAINED A SINGLE INCH ON MY VERTICAL JUMP IM STILL TOUCHING HALF THE NET ON A 10FT RIM WHAT COMPLETE WASTE OF 4 YRS I EVEN DID PLYOMETRICS 1 DAY A WEEK AN NOTHING IM 5FT8 WITH SHOES ON 185LBS STANDING REACH 7FT2 IM STILL 6 INCHES FROM THE RIM SNATCHS DONT DO ANYTHING THERE NOT AS AFFECTIVE AS CLEANS

  • They all look so cool, so much cooler than today athletes.

  • "Indeed, man is becoming stronger. May strength be kind and courage gentle."

  • Superb video!

  • These guys are the epitome of an athlete. Explosive, flexible, co-ordinated, shreaded, yet they often earn peanuts

  • You sir are an idiot. Sprinters are great athletes no doubt, but weightlifters out power sprinters any day. Just think about it...the weightlifter's sport is to generate maximal power to lift the most weight. Sprinter's have high power outputs to run fast but weightlifting is a 1 ditch effort, all the power they can generate in the shortest amount of time, henceforth, weightlifters are the most powerful for weight.

  • read more carfully plz, i wrote in weight/strengh ratio, not in ultimate strengh, of course their not, or all sprinters would be olympic lifters by default, and the reality is olympic lifters are all 1.5 or 2 times stronger...

  • I still believe you are incorrect. Naim Suleymanoglu Clean and Jerk 190Kg, and he was what, a 62kg lifter? I think strength to weight or strength to weight ratio, the weightlifter has the sprinter beat.

  • he is all time best

  • He weighed less than 60kg at that time (1988)!

  • oh wow. No they fucking arent. In fact olympic lifters actually often beat top sprinters in a 30yard dash.

  • damastr12,

i agree with you 100%. this is what i want do in life. screw money....this is where it's at.

this is one of the greatest lifitng videos

  • great video. oly lifting > bodybuilding

  • There is some "Truth" with a capital T involved here.

Everything is measured, under the camera, no hocus-pocus or magic. Either you can lift it, or you can't.

  • I could watch this shit for hours. I heard that you can train like them and be able to lift 3 times your bodyweight over your head.

  • 1:38 guy cheated he made himself lower to get it above his head :o fucking cheat

  • lets see you try that kind of weight.

  • That's how the lift is done. You have to get under it and then push back up to standing position with your legs.

  • when i think of olympic lifters vertical jump i think of kung lao from mortal kombat 2 arcade game when you flick thye joystick kung lao flys out of the screen

  • i ahve alwaysd idolized these guys pyyros is one of my heros

  • Eu gosto tanto do halterofilismo como do bodybuilding(fisiculturismo)e nada melhor do que este vídeo dos campeões olímpicos de halterofilismo em 1.980 para fazer-nos lembrar dos grandes campeões do passado.

I like Bodybuilding and Weightlifiting, yesterday, today and always.

  • i wounder what pyyros dimas vertical jump is ?

  • I LOVE THIS SPORT!!!

  • i am an OLYMPIC LIFTER THATS WHO I AM

  • look at 3:50. There´s a man who isn´t applauding! Fuck him! Best sport eveeeeeeeeer

  • ya that old douch bag in the blue, what a dick

  • Loll

  • this is the best video of the word and the best sport

  • lol equestrian at the end, what a loser sport. it shouldnt even be classified as a sport

  • fuck you wight lifting is on of the hardest sports there is other wise it would not be classified as an olympic sport dumbass

  • I was talking about equestrian not weightlifting if you didn't read properly dumbass

  • apparenntly i didn't read well. still didn't have to get so pissy man why does everyone youtube get pissed off all the time sorry i offended you just protecting one of my sports calm down

  • lol dw

  • 1:15 i couldn't contain myself...

  • hahaahah on the fat guy..

  • ..as a mortal laughs at the failure of a god.

  • hahahahhaha he's a fatass

  • Nah...fatass Alexeev really deserves the laughs here.If he hadn't pulled some strings, with the Soviet officials, we'd have seen Pisarenko in this Olympics....

  • the music is fucking good....does somebody know where can i find it in mp3 format on internet???

  • Yuri Vardanian ... the pride of armenia ...

  • This is the best weightlifting video available on Youtube. Looking forward to a Beijing 2008 edition.

  • Powerlifting is all about gear and drugs nowadays. Olympic lifting has some of the strongest squatters pd for pd and go beyond parallel.

  • That's right most Olympic lifters don't even use belts and still squat tremendous weights

  • Actually, Power is equal to work over time, which is then equal to the force you use multiplied by the distance of the object traveled all divided by the time it takes (just to clarify 20ironmind10). Great vid & music!

  • you defenitley know your stuff 20ironmind10 and thanks for uploading individuallywrap olympic lifting is amazing this is defenitley goin in my favorites

  • I like the fuckin music!!!

  • wow this is so motivational. Ill definetly be doing some cleans tomorrow.

  • There more skill involved, the power lifting,

PL is more strength, OL is more power

  • 3.26 sheephead looks as if he is about to cry

  • Its not *heaving* btw. The clean and jerk and snatch a test of Power (Power= stregnth+speed)

Ill agree with ya tho. A pwerlifter trains for a diferent reason than a weightlifter. A powerlifter shows less technique and more pure stregnth. A weightlifter has to train for speed, flexibility, stregnth.... yeah ill agree, if your lookin for raw stregnth, powerlifting is the way to go.

  • MaxHardcore138 type in *bench press accidents* into your youtube vid search. THEN tell me a powerlifter has control of the weight 100% of the time. Idiot.

  • also in powerlifting the weight is in "control" at all points in the lift unlike olympic lifting like for example the initial clean when the weight is folding back on the shoulders that weight is not under control but is being slung upon the shoulders

  • How is the weight not in control?

The clean is an extremely technical movement throughout. It may be possible to clean smaller weights without being in control of the lift, but when the athletes lift weights this close to their maximum capacity, the technique has to be flawless.

The rack position in a clean is a very stable one, incidentally.
