Surfed in here from PlasmaDude's page. I am almost 54 years old and I got into the internet in 1998, when we got our first computer. It hasn't been new to me in over 11 years...LOL! I started out with the chat rooms, to instant messaging, to community network sites such as Yahoo 360, Myspace and Facebook and then to YouTube.
Hi darlin'---I can usually get away with not fessing up but I am 67. I think I got on to YouTube because of my eclectic taste in music--Johnny Mathis to Red hot Chili Peppers and then I think I got on to the pet videos and then the comedy and so on--next I guess I have to pony up the money and make my own videos! But is also a wonderful way to bridge the generations--I have a cool connection with a 19 year old in Fla who loves the RHCP as I do!!!
Hi, I'm 51 and I got into the computer, because I had to home school two of my kids. I think it's cool that you are interested in what the older generation is up to, some couldn't care a less and told me to get off You Tube. Interesting video!! *****
I remember going to a librarian's conference (circa 1989) and there was a session on the internet~ the presenter had been one of the original computer geeks who talked about how the internet was about to become REALLY big and was definitely the wave of the future. We all signed up for e-mail accounts!
Librarians have been working with the internet since the beginning~ i remember punch cards and pinfeed computer paper...
Hi geriatric! Thanks for the view. I thought that it was quite interesting the fact that I made this video, and went to your page during the actual filming, but it wasn't until after I had stopped the video that I got to learn about the Silver Surfers initiative. I think it's an absolutely great thing to get older persons in to! I wish you lots of luck with it. If you need any help with it, hopefully I can be of some help. :)
A good video! Really age is a mental thing. And how we think! I tell everyone I am in my early 20's! But for some reason beyond my understanding people refuse to believe me! Blast IT! Anyway thank you for the support of us older folks. And we do have much in common! I was under 25 one time!
Hey thanks for the mention dude! You are an awesome young man, I 'm so surprised at the young people that have subscribed to me on youtube. I think that is so Cool. I'll post a vid response to you also as soon as I can.
You have to remember that it is the "older people" that created and built this medium...so...I see it as only natural that we be here. I think we have always been around, just joining more things due to having a bit more time as we get older...:-) I guess with me turning 50 this year, I don't fall into your "older people" category! YAY! hahaha
LOL! It truly was older people who created the internet and such, but I mean much much older people as a whole presence as well. I hadn't thought of the 'im getting older, and have more free time every day' through the retiring process and such.
Many of the "older people" were working with computers that took up giant rooms and used punch cards, and of course as time moved on, most things were done on computers. I remember REALLY wanting on of those new cool calculators...hahaha Oh...and a color TV with a remote control in the house so I no longer had to be my mom's remote control...hahaha
First off, thank you so much for recognizing us. I am an engineer by trade, and an ordained minister. I will tell you more in my video. Again thanks so much.
