One of my favorite DRB songs that Nashville just didn't "get". Chris Hillman deserves so much more than he ever got for his incredible pioneering talent.
People sure post some weird stuff on youtube. I guess I'm just clueless :) I think Chris Hillman is and has been fabulous in every band he's ever been in ,,, and I don't understand all this christian/satan crazy talk.
re: " ... Chris Hillman is one of the purest singers of our time ..."; hell yeah! Also one of the original GREATs. Voice like white-light crystal truth. Thanks for posting this.
God's Plan - there you go. Talk about 'true colours'. Jay Dee was what attracted - Hillman's what had people running for the exits in total fright. Hillman = shit.
This band is so talented its insane. The level of musicianship is top notch, having both Jorgensen & Jaydee in there,as well as the song craftsmanship of Hillman and Pederson.
Yeah you have to check out The Flying Burrito Bothers. Especially there first record. Chris Hillman played the bass for The Byrd and went back and forth between guitar the the Burrito's. Another person to check out is Gram Parsons.
This was a very rough tune for both Chris and Steve Hill to write. Speaks volumes. Listen to DRB and then watch and listen to the "new" Eagles tune. Then tell me who's the better band? Or the better singer? Hillman could always wipe the floor with Henley and Frey - Herb too.
I remember a great summer visiting my grandparents in Wisconsin when I was 11 years old. We would go up north for walleye and on the way grandpa would be playing country radio. I'll never forget humming One Step Forward as we motored the boat to our secret spot on the other side of the lake along the bullrushes. Leeches and slip bobbers never failed!
Chris is about as committed here as I can remember seeing
him, and that's saying a lot. The one time I saw them, they were hot as a firecracker. Jay Dee has been one of my favorite steel players since the early '70's, so when
Chris snagged him for this band, I knew they'd be masterfull.
As everyone else has said, thank you for putting this together. Much appreciated.
You're the best David! Thanks again! Everyone will notice that the lyrics are slightly different than the album version. And what a nice jangle guitar tone from John and his Ric!
Thanks for posting this! One of these days someone is going to put together a DVD of Desert Rose Band performances. I can't imagine why no one's done it yet.

Knowing Hillman's hidden agenda, this is all the more scary. The guy's the devil in disguise. I feel sorry for his children.

The song titel is "Running", just to make it easier to searchr for. Can somebody please add it to the title.
And please do never forget that most of those fine titles of the DRB haven been co-written by Steve Hill!!!!

Hillman was in the Byrd's from the 60-70 era,
in the 80s he got with 2 members called McGuinn Clark and Hillman...He's pure genius!!

I'd also like to add my opinion that Chris Hillman is one of the purest singers of our time.
axman90210 3 years ago 56
Pure - if you like right-wing christian dipshit robot rock. DRB are the superstars of country but Hillman is a total asshole.
SumnerMurrayRedstone 2 years ago
I was talking about his voice and nothing more. But I guess I must like christian dipshit robot rock if that's what this is.
axman90210 2 years ago
What a heartfelt and beautiful song...and catchy as hell. DRB forever.

can't say i agree there,
Jay Dee was pretty awesome, but i love Chris' work.
ah well, each to his own

What the hell does this mean?
jeffmsnipes 2 years ago 5
Absolutely! Hillman did write this about his father, who committed suicide when Chris was young. Probably my favorite song by TDRB!
pjmcnemar 3 years ago
If that were so then the lyrics are a fabrication.
SumnerMurrayRedstone 2 years ago
It appears that you have an agenda. Please elaborate so I don't just dismiss you as some guy with an ax to grind, OK? Fair??
axman90210 2 years ago 19
lol, the only song i know and like by this band is "one step forward"
DrSurprise 3 years ago
I think Chris wrote this song about his dad, who I think I read one time committed suicide. Does anyone else remember this?

Great song!
As for wiping the floor, I don't like putting down one to benefit the other. To me, they all helped build the foundation that the floor is on!

Agreed! What is the name of the new Eagles tune?
macaibhistin 4 years ago
"How Long" - ironically Chris sang harmony on the version the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band did in concerts over 30 years ago.
