Some Weezer songs today are good yeah but there like more Pop songs now. I'm not saying that this isn't pop, yeah it could be considered that but this was the Weezer era where like anything they produced was gold. Rivers, write lyrics about stuff like this. Expanding on what Fran 100 said below, I love watching these old performances because the band does really look like they're "feeling" the music. Rivers actually displays genuine emotion in these performances, unlike the forced "hype up the crowd" shit you see now a days.

It's not so much that they had a shitty distortion sound (which actually WAS very tinny, they were experimenting with a new sound)but the fact that 1) they were playing though chorus pedals also and 2) they were playing live. Chorus pedals=the ultimate tone killers for heavy distortion and when bands play live, they jack up the treble on guitar amps to make them more audible. However, this doesn't translate well when recording from the mics, where guitars are usually recorded from an alt. source
