At 3.16 there is an odd sound, like a bell being rung. Or is it the noise that Harry Palmer makes when he whacks the metal pulley thing in the old warehouse?
track down Riz Otrolani's score for Confessione Di Un Commissario Di Polizia Al Procuratore Della Repubblica for a much closer representation of the To Kill A Dead Man sound. Much closer than you would think ;)
you are right, I have donwloaded that film and the soundtrack has many similitudes with To kill a dead man. I don't know if Portishead have ever seen the film of Damiano Damiani, is for sure that they have seen the Ipcress file. Anyway during the Ipcress File there are some words in Albanian (my country), I am searching why they have chosen that language.
I love Portishead - clearly cos they must have listened to some of John Barry's themes.... so so 60's. times of spies and mystery...

It's apparently a cimbalom, a Hungarian type of dulcimer (see Imdb, Ipcress File trivia).
