If Magma had hit superstar status in the USA the way they did in France, MTV would never have survived...because bands would have been inspired to do better on their concerts, and everybody would have been there instead of at home watching TV!
I like your thinking, unfortunately, the average american could never understand Magma or any form of similar music(i.e. american idol is a perfect example),Charlie Parker and other Jazz artists found little success here in the U.S. until they were a hit in Europe. The comment from "fresh and minty" is a typical response to something as complex as Magma.
yes, americans are an uncultured and vulgar people. . . really? come on your not that stupid. the majority of people worldwide didnt get into magma. the prog scene in general didnt have a huge impact in the US until later. and magma is a difficult sound in general, even for prog fans. also, jazz originated and was made popular in the US. obviously its not something americans just cant understand. what about the Euro dance hall/techno scene? obviously all europeans are mindless.
mikeypoo you are one of the dickhead average americans I was refering to. go listen to hanson and rub one out with your boyfriend.you don't know anything about jazz or music.......early jazz musicians did strugle here in the states for many years, while finding success in europe.
define early jazz. you seem to know more than everyone else here. Jazz is an american art, an american music, and it was and still is very popular here. Free jazz in the 50's and 60's might have been more popular in europe but later on american jazz artist became extrememly popular with the advent of jazz fusion. Just because i like to jack off to hanson videos doesnt mean im an idiot.
I don't know much but,The late 30's and 40's and the advent of be-bop- coleman hawkins, charlie parker, dizzy, monk bud powell. Not saying they didn't have a following, only that many found it easier in Paris,Rome, etc.I like to wack it to jonas bros.
Mikey you're a funny dude........I take back the dickhead remarkand and replace it with richard cranium. Do you like the tripzoid stuff by gong, hatfield, national health, soft machine? I hold my favorite stuff within this realm.
mmm hmm. especially Gong and Soft Machine. still need to hear national health and hatfield and the north but ive heard good things about both of them. Wheres a good place to start?
That`s very very true, because it is said that the mediocre doesn`t know anything bigger than himself, but that the talented immedately recognizes the genius!
