Von Karajan himself took over 20 minutes for this. What impertinence. But I agree that this isn't the most inspired performance. It sounds thin.

This 20 minute movement should be played in a 12 minute frame. The recapitulation counterpoint at the end of the movement is covered up by harmonic blocks. It mocks the Austrian countryside. It sounds like someone from Linz has a 90/40 bloodpressure.

This is a very poor arrangement on many levels
