He has also gone on the record as being in favor of stripping away the right of law-abiding citizens to be licensed to carry a concealed handgun. Before the Heller decision came out on 26 June 2008, Obama stated he was in support of the DC handgun ban. After the Supreme Court struck the DC gun ban down, he praised the decision.
