Did anyone notice all of the F-16s are carrying only the right wingtip AIM-9 Sidewinder. Is there any significance of that or is it just a training requirement ?
@luv4metallica To simulate the Aim-9 they only need it to be carried on one weapons station. The other wingtip is occupied by the ACMI pod. That pod will keep track of how many "weapons" have been fired and record data to a cartridge for evaluation later. The pod also simulates Aim-120 and Aim-7 missiles along with the aircraft radar.
@phantomTomcat1985 Thanks alot for that info. Well so what u mean 2 say is that on the left wingtip it is an ACMI pod? Well it doesn't look like a pod 2 me...looks more like an empty pylon.
@phantomTomcat1985 Hey thaks aton 4 dat info.I know what ACMI means. I follow and read alot about warfare avionics. Though I have nothing 2 do with it...its just a hobby and fascination for military technology. I had seen the F-16s in this configuration in many videos and I always thought it was a vacant pylon for the Sidewinder. Thanks for enlightening me on that. The last time I remember seeing an ECM pod was on a MiG-23BN.That pod was huge.
I know F-16I has P&W engines, not sure about the other ones. They have some A-D models, they do a few modifications on them but not to the engine I'm pretty sure.
From a text I`ve had on Test and Nellis units for quite awhile. A U.S military data base list simply states WA as Warfare, and ET as Eglin test. Check with people at Nellis next time you are there in case unit and program names have been renamed. Nice footage.
The Fighter Weapons School aircraft have the same code as the Aggressor units at Nellis. OT is for Operational Test, and ET is Experimental Test, out of Nellis and Eglin .
nice vid i once stayed at a hotel in las vegas called nellis sweets and every morning i was woke up by the roar of an f-16, i even saw an f-22 take off it was awsome.

@luv4metallica Its there, it looks like a missile without fins and a long nose probe. You can see it clearly at 0:36 on the video.

It's the hydraulic actuators on the afterburner nozzles that make them open and close as the pilot makes throttle movements

Why are they carrying external fuel tanks? Are they allowed to Jettison their stores over the Nellis Range?

what are the requirments to be an agressor?
rednight666666 3 years ago
I'm sure they only choose the best and probably the more senior pilots to be agressor pilots.
