  • The book was a lot better than the movie. Not really the best nuke scene anyway.

  • london 2012 ;)

  • Morgan Freeman is such a bamf.

  • Had a random nitemare about this movie after having not seen it for like 10 years. Fuck hollywood

  • wow I agree. They rush the president out but leave the rest. I hope if something like this ever really happens that they tell everyone else to evacuate also. But there was no time in this movie. THe president modercade got caught in the shockwave. That probably means who ever left wouldnt have had time to get far enough away to survive

  • How funny. They rush the worthless 'Fraud-In-Chief' out of the stadium and leave the mundanes there to die! Perfect.

  • so, cleveland finally gets its pay back....

  • Totally fake. If it was real the bomb would be in Justin Biebers house not a stadium full of non Bieber believers. -_- :-P

  • brilliant acting here. Anyways I was wondering if anyone remembers the Username of Freemans IRC(chatroom) contact in this movie?

  • @SnugOFP Spinnacer?

  • I love the look on his face, he's like oh fuck......

  • Religion. Greed. Stupidity. Weapons. All of these bring pain and suffering. Combined they bring catastrophe.

  • BA-TIM-RE!!!! *dun dun dun dun*

  • SEND HIM A TEXT MESSAGE! ...too late.

  • Pause at 2:08 and you can see the explosion happen at the stadium before it reaches the this actual scene

  • I don't understand how nobody dies from this explosion? I though a nuke was a ball of fire this movie makes it seem like a wave of wind.

  • @xxairj23 It's both. Close to the bomb, everything is zorched to a crisp. Further out, the blast arrives as an abrupt wind that blows over houses, cars, whatever. Watch Hfks9jdXcIY and other videos on that fellow's channel.

As portrayed In the movie clip, the blast arrived at the hospital a little too quickly for anything but a very small bomb.

  • @xxairj23 its both. The detonation creats a massive ball of fire and then a shockwave goes out for miles at the speed of sound.

  • On a personal note, I would just like to say that I would nuke a stadium full of 72,000 people too just to vaporize those nasty gaytor-looking football helmets on the players. And I would do it gladly.

    GO NOLES!!!!

  • honestly this scene makes the movie!

  • incredible scene! im on edge every time!

  • @SilverBars42 People who would kill for religion would kill for something else if religion didn't exist. It's the species, not the beliefs.

Also, militant atheists are just as likely to commit violent acts as militant religious people.

  • @MrFlylice Yeah it's like all these anti-religious guys forgot about socialism, fascism, capitalism, communism, and all the other economic "isms". Removing the traditional religious system wont do a damn thing, because in the end someone always fights for power, and as long as humans seek power there will always be war and conflict. And lets not forget the sociopaths who are in it all just for kicks and jollies.

  • @MrFlylice well put

  • @MrFlylice No, don't you even try to have the gaul to defend religion. It is a cancer of the mind.

  • @MrStig691 Just as easily, I could say atheism is a "cancer of the mind."

We've been killing each other before we were even humans. You think Australopithecus didn't fight itself? Hell, even as single cell organisms we were competing for survival. It's hard-wired into every living thing, humans included.

To say that religion is the sole cause of violence such as this is utterly childish.

  • @MrFlylice Where is this study that militant athiests are likely to commit violent acts as much as religious? Pulled that straight out of your ass?

  • @blazinhomo What study? I didn't mention a study, why, you've seen one?

Or are you saying that conflict, i.e. competition, isn't part of evolution? Cause that's common knowledge, really.

  • @MrFlylice

Not suicidal ones though. That's why Islam is so dangerous.

  • Well if you read a certain book it talks of columns of fire, smoke, and brim stone but they way we look at it now it is columns of: Strontium-90, Caesium-137, and Tin-126 (just to mention some radio active isotopes).

It don't matter what fanatic of what group it is my hope there never is a "when".

  • As they said on The Wire: "If someone blew up Baltimore, would anybody honestly give a f*ck?"

  • you know he would be in a booth

  • what an eering feeling starting @ 1:53

  • @SilverBars42 Do you believe in peace through superior firepower or in another way vaporizing entire towns and cities to bring about peace!? Do you believe in the science of terrible weapons will bring global stability that years of religious war and conversions could not. religion is not the problem its mankind.

  • @SilverBars42 NO ignorant is thinking that WMD's will keep us safe and are the answer to war, think about it was scientist from the Manhattan project thinking about Christianity when building Nukes was German WWI scientist thinking about religion when developing chem warfare that would eventually be used against Jews NO! they were all brainwashed by nationalism and short minded patriotism ask some who still live. I'm sick of religion being used as scapegoats man is the bringer of its own demise

  • @SilverBars42 I have to disagree. I don't consider myself ignorant in the slightest.

  • this was like the only entertaining part of the movie

  • @SilverBars42 What's wrong with being religious?

  • This is will be in Berlin on 100% olympic stadium FUCK NWO

  • this gonna happend in berlin 26.06.2011?

  • it used to be easier to control 1 million people than to kill them.. now it's easier to kill 1 million than to control them.. Google who said that, if ya wanna.. a hint, he's a presidental advisor.. the guy should be advisoing his teddy bear on what coloring crayon to use when coloring the sun in his pretty picture.. he's a loon and there's an empty bed in a State Hospital near him that should be occupied by him....

  • I love how the tv screen in the back flashes first when the bomb goes off.

  • please not maremie!

  • worthless film taht destroyed a very good book.

The plot invented in the movie is completely crazy, and as opposed to Tom Clancys makes exactly ZERO sense.

The whole crew truly must have been retarded not to mention incompetent...

  • @gladio4ever Film follows the novel pretty accurately.

  • @TheInfiniator

" Film follows the novel pretty accurately."

WHAT have you been smoking ??? Or have you read the book at all ???

NOTHING in this worthless shit film follows the book. But the most GLARING difference is the completely retarded idea in the film that somehow neo-nazis have gotten their hands on a nuclear bomb.

In the book there is a long and realistic explanation of how an israeli nuclear bombs goes missing and eventually ends up in the fundamentalist hands of PFLP.

  • @TheInfiniator The film makes up the ridiculous and completely unrealistic idea that the bomb is sold to a neo-nazi (even though they have had no real power in 50 years).

After this the film goes completely of the hinge and attempt to create a scenario where Russia suddenly becomes agressive and threatens USA (in the book the plan B of the terrorist was to blame Iran, to make US bomb them and start a djihad).

After this the film spins even further into meaningless nonsense.

  • @TheInfiniator

    SO....

as NOTHING of this is in the book and the ending for the same reason is COMPLETELY different ... then what EXACTLY is that you think "follows the novel pretty accurately"....

When you know nothing, then its generally a good idea to shut up and dont pretend you know everything.

    And I repeat:

This is the worst filmadaptation of a book. Ever.

Which is probably why the director Phil Alden Robinson have not been allowed to make any films since. Serves him right !

  • @gladio4ever Hmm. Despite your incessant rambling, I'll hold my ground. The film follows the novel pretty accurately. Entertaining film.

  • @TheInfiniator

Very impressive arguments you manage to line up ... for an illiterate child...

Who gives a flying fuck what you think - as you are clearly an unenlightened moron ... and its clear you have not read the book. At all.

The only entertaining thing is reading how you try to defend a film which was universally claimed as a failure. And beyond a doubt the worst adaptation of a Tom Clancy book ever.

Well... mind over matter, as in I dont mind because you dont matter...

  • @gladio4ever I'll ignore the fact that I have yet to enter this so-called "argument" you speak of, until this very paragraph that is. You say the film is universally claimed as a failure? Considering all the top dog reviewers said it was pretty good (Ebert, Berardinelli, Arnold, Clark, Burr, etc.) I would really like to see your statistics that say otherwise.

I read the book back in 7th grade. I admit there are loads of differences, but the overall plot follows pretty much the same.

  • @TheInfiniator

    Are you completely retarded ?

Try reading the wikipedia entry to mark just SOME of the main differences. Or even better: try reading the book again as you must obviously have skipped major passages and/or chapters to think the movie matches it.

As for the other nonsense, then anyone can see the rotten tomatoes entry to verify the falsehood of that claim as well. The review are at best mediocre.

There is a reason the director was not allowed to direct another film.

  • @TheInfiniator

Oh and on a VERY final note, then what I wrote was: "Very impressive arguments you manage to line up."

My point was that you merely claim your opinion should somehow be an argument in itself.

So when you write: "I'll ignore the fact that I have yet to enter this so-called "argument" you speak of, until this very paragraph that is", then that merely verifies my claim.

Tom Clancy himself said that the idiot director chose to ignore his book.

    End of discussion.

  • 2:07

  • If I ever see the president start running like this, Im going to follow him

  • OMG I love watching this 1911 style XD

  • I thought this movie was subpar, and it was a chickenshit move to change the bad guys from radical muslims to tired, old nazis. HOWEVER, they nailed this scene, at least in terms of building the drama.

  • @gonolz Yes, because Muslims are the only people that would ever try to set off a nuke in America. At least they tried something fresh as opposed to the same, tired old Muslim menace. In the 90's movies like True Lies, Executive Decision, and The Siege used the stereotypical Islamic terrorist as the bad guy. Sum of All Fears was made pre-9/11. The move was a creative decision. If you crave stereotypical, racist portrayals, that says something about you.

  • @g4ngst4crizz4b At no point in his comment did gonolz say that he though Muslims were the only people that would try to set off a nuke in America. You put those words in his mouth. He was complaining that they replaced a legitimate threat with a rather nonsensical choice, that is old revenge-driven Nazis. Call me crazy, but I don't think a modern-day geopolitical thriller should use old Third Reich Nazis as the bad guys. It did not necessarily have to be Arabs, just more realistic.

  • @edgelesspigeon76 gonolz didn't say anything about the "legitimacy" of the threat. It sounds like you are trying turn his frothing bigotry into an intelligent argument. Putting wings on a turd won't make it fly. And if you think the risk of nuclear attack from radical Islamists is more likely than some neo-Nazi group, I'll call you more than just crazy... you'd be paranoid, stupid, xenophobic, but mostly... WRONG. Nation states with nuclear stockpiles pose the greatest threat.

  • @g4ngst4crizz4b To your last comment. The issue here is that this is not a neo-Nazi group, which would be acceptable. These are old Nazis from the Third Reich. I do not particularly care whether or not the terrorists are Arabs. They could have been Westboro Baptists, white supremacists, or any number of things, and I would not have minded. Its not the fact they were not Arabs that I have a problem with, its that they replaced them with a cheap gimmick more akin to something from a comic.

  • @edgelesspigeon76 Don't change the subject. Your initial reply was a convoluted strawman regarding gonolz's comment. That's the issue. If you want to talk about the movie, talk about the movie. Don't reply to my comment trying to defend somebody else and then make up this other argument.

  • @edgelesspigeon76 As for the plot... the movie itself is a cheap gimmick. Ben Affleck is yelling into a cell phone and emailing "Spinnaker" while Baltimore burns. It doesn't matter who the bad guys are because the fate of the world depends on his smartphone. The attack on the aircraft carrier was the best scene in the movie, and the only one worth watching.

  • love this scene :) but ud think they would have a safe zone for the president in every major city in the us? :) mind u maybe they wer eon there way there :) but still awsome scene! :D gives me chills!

  • Note: if you see the President being escorted out of a major event like a stadium game, that's most likely your cue to GTFO!

  • @bub777 agree

  • @bub777

Not in the United States, football is more important to Americans than the destruction of civil liberties, the demise of the us dollar, and the unsustainable foreign policy. The majority would stay and watch.

  • If you saw them running you would run with them wouldn't you...

  • Epic scene!

  • The scene at the hospital was very well made....

  • Cha.

  • coincidence = President is black also hint hint obama super bowl tomorrow you figure it out

  • @Tekula23 no the president isn't morgan freeman in the movie.

  • @Tekula23 the president isn't morgan freeman dude....

  • @Tekula23 you figure it out, thats not the president, youre a moron, and judging by your profile occupation: expanding your mind; i assume you are one of those UBER closed minded individuals that believes in the loose change movie (dont make me bust out the videos of the guys who made it admitting they got "some" stuff wrong. PLEASE dont make me do it)

  • @Tekula23 also, he wasnt at the superbowl, he said hed only go if chicago made it. so much for expanding your mind dumbass

  • @Tekula23 This movie is based off a book from 1991. If it was going to happen, it would have by now.

  • @SilverBars42 The Illuminati did orchestrate "9/11". There were never any WMD planted in Iraq, because they needed a reason to stay there longer--to fight "terror". Iraq has been, and is still being used, as a training senario so the U.S. government can adequately understand how to operate inside urban and rural America once a major EVENT takes place, the constitution is suspended, and a New World Order is forced upon us and the world. It's actually going to happen within a year or so.

  • Hopefully not prophetic of blackjack

  • @SilverBars42 blablablabla

  • laughable??? lets hope that such a thing doesn't happen at this year's superbowl 2011 at the bran new stadium just built in Dallas..coincidentally were jfk was assassinated, and coincidentally were all the UN members will be meeting for the first time to celebrate the stupid game with barack obama (barry soetoro). Lets hope they don't decide to leave 2 mins before the game ends in order to advert what is about to happen. Lets just hope its all in the movies and it really won't happen. Peace xxx

  • @kathogies I live in the DFW area. Dont you know Elvis was the grassy knoll gunman? As far as that damn stadium, I used to be able to drive thru Arlington when 360 was tied up. Not anymore. Fuck You Jerry Jones!!

  • @SilverBars42 No asshole you do not get to say that i'm a disgrace to the victims, me and the millions like me want justice for the people that died we want the people REALLY behind it brought to justice, stupid cunts like you are a disgrace you letting the sons of bitches that were behind 9/11 get away with it and kill countless more in their names, then you slag the people that are actually doing the right thing, so fuck you you little useless scrap of shit.

  • @SilverBars42 fine go bury your head the sand if you want....."the idea is laughable" oh so i take it your smarter than 1200 architects and engineers who support the truth movement..... just do your own research before you go running your mouth about shit you don't know

  • @SilverBars42 actually i done my own research and also i'm a structural engineer all i had to do was look at the collapse to see how wrong the official story is, and it hasn't been debunked one or two things were back in 04 but since then mountains of new evidence has come to light but when ever anybody tries to raise these points they just get ignored open your fucking eyes for christ sake and stop believing all the horse shit the media puts out the media is own by the government you tard!

  • @SilverBars42 its true........take it upoon yourself to do some research instead of swallowing all the bullshit that the media gives you

  • @SilverBars42 Fghanistan wasn't behind 9/11 it was the american government all the evidence is there but you can bury your head in the sand and refuse to believe it if you want i understand not wanting to believe it but its true

  • wouldn't that girl be vaporized?

  • That fucking nazi bastard dresselr did this. Fuck all nazis!

  • @zgrillo2004 I think we need to start looking another danger, not nazi, but you know, those radicals, you know, I cannot say it cause the "freedom of religion" But you get the idea, right?

  • @rickyibarra you mean jihads? yes they are a threat too

  • @zgrillo2004 yes jihads are a threat because the us and uk army are bombing the shit out of muslim countrys for no reason and pissing them off which you cannot blame them for if people from other countrys came in and took over our countrys and were kicking shit out them for no reason we would be pissed off and want revenge also

  • Comment removed

  • That’s Jack’s 2nd helicopter crash and he survived both.

  • @AeroJimE27 Shit, somebody's actually reading the books!

  • 2:08 She is blind! and if she felt the blast they would all be dying of RAD Poising. Did they show the true horror of an atomic attack... NOPE! Would the Motorcade survive? NOPE Could the Motorcade have made it to a safe Distance? NOPE. Did they follow the book and say it was Islamic Terrorist. HELL NO!, Chicken Shits.

  • This movie came out years after T2, and this is the best they could do to show a nuclear explosion in a city?! Lame.

  • @sidearmsalpha yeah the nuc scene in T2 was freakin awesome if i was directing this movie that scene would be so much more expensive haha but it would be awesome

  • oh, come on, please, americans, that's just a bomb ! Your marines throw stuff like that everyday since twenty years on arabs and asians civilians, schools, stadiums or hospital, and you don't give a crap. That's just a fun action movie ^^ (love the president run, too ^^)

  • @billedefoudre

Right... we throw nuclear weapons around all the time at civilian targets.

    Piss up a rope.

  • @Dragonx0562

    I will try ^^ Good spirit ;)

  • nx time. if the president runs, YOU RUN TOO!!! lol

  • Great. just think: when the Iranians finally get their own nuke sorted out we can look forward to doing this for real.

  • The dumb thing in this scene is that they're driving inn a desert after they just got out of the stadium. Thats messed up.

  • Horrific imagining all those people in the stadium simply turning to vapour in an instant, those two teams probably need some new players afterwards also.

  • ...and the coach calls a timeout!!!....

  • I love how the entire stadium watched the President get hurried out and no one thought "If he's leaving, maybe I should too"

  • @patsfreak Might not have done them much good

  • one bit i liked is the way the tv at 2:06 cut our first becfore the blast hit the hospital

  • i was in that movie that part was film at the montreal stadium! it was awesome.. i shaked hand with ben and morgan freeman!

  • why did they all clap randomly at 1:55?

  • @UltimateVenom Everyone booed the president like he was George Bush when he entered the stadium. Guess they were glad he left.

  • @UltimateVenom Probably a football thing

  • Good point Wrestling. The real profound change from the novel, is that the villians in the novel were RADICAL MUSLIMS. The Tom Clancy novel came out in 1991, almost a decade before 9/11. Political correctness strikes again.

  • @olentangy74 Or you could take any hollywood movie at all and see how accurate they're to the books / games or history...

  • Watch 'Threads' - the best movie about nuclear war. Americans cant make movies properly. BBC made a masterpiece

  • If you look carefully, the tv cuts out a fraction of a second before the flash.

  • Love this scene. You can just see it Morgan Freeman's face as he looks around and realizes that all these people are dead and THERE'S NOTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT. And then he just shouts to the Secret Service guys and Bam! They move out. They don't need to know the reason why, he's the National Security Advisor and they hear the tone of his voice and haul ass. Great scene and done so well.

  • @matrixinterface If there's one problem I have with this scene, it's the way that everyone just gets back to the game after the President is removed. If that were to happen like that, people would assume that they should get out of there.

  • John, Red Light!! Let's Go!!!

    USSS amazing

  • one of the greatest scenes in all movies - heightened by Jerry "King Jerry" Goldsmith's AMAZING and PERFECT musical score!

  • bmore cant get a break

  • I was like "fuck they finally had the balls to do it in a film!"

  • 2:08, 2:10 & 2:14 PWNED!

  • Jerry Goldsmith you magnificent bastard.

  • did anyone notice...the scene in the football stadium is at night because the ravens play in an outdoor stadium and you can see the lights are on. but after and before this scene its daytime.

  • @damonster5000 not only. i don't think helos without the tail rotor fall in a straight path.. (2:23)

btw.. a great movie. one of my favourite.

  • @damonster5000 The 'Star-Spangled Banner' scene before this shows a CGI domed stadium in place of M&T Bank Stadium. This is probably to cover for any glimpses of the stadium's roof that might appear in the game footage - which was all filmed at Montreal's Olympic Stadium using CFL players and cheerleaders. Also, legendary NFL referee Red Cashion is the referee for the game.

  • This is the best scene in the movie!

  • @BishopKingPawn agree

  • @BishopKingPawn agree

  • and the ravens are fucked up.

  • why does it say comedy

  • I love the "O Shit" look

  • @JoeZeon100 All that was missing was for Cabot to say "Mother of God..." before screaming for the Secret service to get the Pres out.

  • @JoeZeon100 It's Morgan Freeman, the man knows how to express what he thinks. ;)

  • tactical nuke incoming!

  • kind of a crappy thing that the president gets evacuated first. an egalitarian effort should be made to evacuate everyone. it would have failed in this case, but who cares. it's the principle of the thing.

  • not really though that's the point it wouldn't ahve worked get one important man out of there first and you don't cause mass spread hysteria causing the president to be saved you tell thousands of people they're going to die you're going to have huge problems.

  • @ehwhat0 US federal policy dictates that the executive branch's chain of command must always be preserved in some form. There's a reason that one Cabinet member (chosen at random) is prevented from attending the State of the Union Address each year - if a terrorist attack were to strike the Capitol and kill everyone inside, that one Cabinet member would automatically become President and the original chain of command would be kept intact, preventing a leadership crisis in a dark hour.

  • lets hope that a real nuke attack doesnt occur!

  • i like how the nuke is "introduced"

  • In the Tom Clancy novel, the city that got nuked was Denver. Why they changed to Baltimore, I do not understand.

  • @olentangy74 the movie plot is adapted to a post 9/11 world meaning it would be difficult (and make less sense) to spend the effort to move the bomb into the country, so why not simply hit a low key coastal city

  • @olentangy74

For dramatic purposes, it's easier to have Jack Ryan be able to drive between the two big settings - Baltimore and DC. If the bomb was in Denver and Ryan was in DC, you'd lose that dramatic tension of having Ryan himself in the crossfire and trying to stop the bomb by himself since he'd be hundreds of miles away and have at best a few minutes' notice.

  • great movie

  • 0.32 Baltimore

  • This scene always gives me the chills of a lifetime.

  • I always get chills at the scene at the end when John Clark slits that dude's throat.

  • @TraustiGeir Same

  • @TraustiGeir chills of a lifetime? why?

  • @goodguysdoll Suspense. Made with brilliant cinematography, soundtrack and other forms of expression to create the very feeling of what's going on.

  • Excellent film!
