Here in Canada I got screwed with a $260 CAD fee just to surrender my Indian passport and get the useless surrender certificate.

Its a ripoff and some politician is definately collecting the money down the line.

You are better off burning your Indian passport.

If you go to NewZealand Indian Embassy website they charge only 25N$ for surrendering a passort. In UK, they charge about 10 times more than this !! Why is this disparity and who gave the authority to do it? It is very clear motivation behind this is money making since the largest migration recently is to UK.

rojink, are you based in UK? Are you Indian? Do you know that Indian Govt. has enough money and is in a more stable condition than the UK, I mean money-wise. Did you hear that recently a well proportion of worlds Gold reserves were bought by RBI India, what does all this suggest to. Do we need to again send our hard earned, highly taxed money to India? Do you really? Why dont you pay some money every month to the Indian govt. from your salary to show your patriotism.

I think what people did is absolutely fantastic, as usually we malayalees are used to thinking about ourselves, especially people like Shaji must start to think that this is not just about money but about principle and the primary responsibility of the Indian Embassy is to serve the people of India for live here in the UK not loot people in daylight.

We have the courage to admit we are here for our own benefit. But at the mean time we contribute to Indian economy as well through various means. For a new passport Indian Embassy charge only 27 pounds

For miscellaneous service they charge only 7 pounds

For a tourist visa they charge only 30 pounds. When a British Citizen pay 30 pounds to chill out in Goa, one NRI British Citizen will have to pay 120 pounds to visit his/her loved ones in India because of the new surrender fee. For a family with 2 chideren, they will have to pay 480 pounds.
