Have you ever had any issues using a beta bios update? In order for me to use a hexacore processor on my GA-MA790X-UD4P i need to flash it with bios update F10C which in the description says it's a beta. I've never flashed a bios before because there's never been a need for me to do so before. Why is it that it's recommended that you load optimized defaults before/after flashing? Would it harm the computer in any way to try without doing that after you flash?
@sonyxploder Loading optimized defaults is simply a safety issue. There are some changes you might have made to the current BIOS that might make the flash fail. If you need to use a beta BIOS it's no problem. Just flash again when the final is released. As far as safety precautions......I like to mention them in my videos......but chances are 99% you would be fine not even using optimized defaults before or after. I just think it's a small price to pay for an easy thing to do....good luck.
hi, i wonder if you could help me, i have a gigabyte mobo p55-ud3l with 8 gb of memory, yet in windows 7 its says i have 8gb but only 3.99 available, how do i get all 8gb available, i have had all 8 available but i have recently re-installed w7 to find this problem, im using w7 64bit
@spencedanny1 It's most likely a Windows issue. See what the actual BIOS says. See if the BIOS is detecting all 8GB. If it is then start looking on the web. I would go to sevenforums. You will find the answer there with a simple search. I know 32 bit Windows only detects 3.99GB max but if you are using 64 bit then it's another problem. Most likely software.
Just successfully flashed my bios on my Gigabyte Z68X UD5 B3 to Bios Version F9 to fix a crashing issue using you're video tutorial! I have to say this is a very clear and easy to use tutorial, thank you for uploading it! xD
@StevieLaner I am glad this video helped you. That's why I made them. I was looking for the information at one point.......after I learned.....I decided to pass it on. The web is great that way! Have a great day and new year.
@nate42nd One hickup I found whilst doing this is that my NTFS formatted Flashdrive does not showup on the Q-Flash Flash drive menue, I tried my other Flashdrive which is in FAT and that appeared no problem. Just encase anyone else comes across the same problem.

@mupp33n I'm having the same problem!! did you ever find a solution? Any help would be appreciated as I'm at a total loss and can't boot my PC/Format it..
@Scorpion9709 I have seen this happen. If you try another flash drive it might make it show up. I have one that will not work no matter how I format it. Good luck.
@awsed25 if you want to do it in windows you have to install a program from the motherboard cd you know that one u got when u bought the motherboard the program is called @BIOS
@Scorpion9709 SOLVED! I made bootable pendrive and copy all files needed to pendrive to boot. Then started bios and in Q-Flash already I had pendrive like a 2-0 HDD.

Nice tutorial, thanks. I guess you aren't plugged in to UPS. Utility power and UPS can both fail, sure but you will be more at ease with these operations. Good idea to optimize after flashing. The optimization, for those who asked, is mostly for the overclocking and power tweaks. Good practice to set to defaults with a new BIOS then start your overclocking fresh after that. If you didn't know this you should not be overclocking anyway.
@Trip506 It's a safety measure. The Gigabyte pros say to do it. Bad things CAN happen if you don't. Chances are you would be fine not doing it but why take a chance if it only takes a minute. Thats my answer, I asked the Gigabyte pros and that;s what they told me.
@nate42nd Errrm ok well what does doing it actualy do ? just reset the BIOS to factory defaults im guessing in which case it dosnt really matter as their at factory default settings anyway
Also my friend who is pretty good at computers said dont bother doing it
@Trip506 It makes everything "optimized" for your setup. I would highly recommend you do it. If you have "dual bIOS" you will be fine NOT doing it, but why not. It sets the voltages and timings (and everything else to your hardware. Try it out without doing it. It will save you a little time.
@n0f3aR629 …"do you ever heard" Yeah I think I've heard just about enough now. Go back to being a 12 year old that thinks they know what they're talking about.
@Carlotheprospector Ur stupid dude or just another lame nerd! I`ve updated every board via @bios and nothing bad happened only when the bios crashes from another reason then you need qflash
You can also update ur bios directly from windows using @BIOS utility. Anyway, you havent set the sata controler in ahci mode which is more advanced than ide and Win7 can benefit fro that (there is a big chance that you cannot change that without reinstalling system again, but you wont know without cheching. Also no smart cabability is set do disabled
people say that updating using dos mode or Qflash is safer than using windows tool, so good work with showing how to do that in a proper way.

I tried to update BIOS from desktop on W7 but whenever I try to run it ..it just closes up and writes file has stopped working windows is searching for solution
You're my personal hero for the day. I was afraid that the BIOS update was gonna be super complicated, and it wasn't at all! And now the CPU in my new build is showing up at its proper MHz! YAY!
i have a question, im planning to update my bios and i dont know which F's i should choose? its either the latest F's which is F14 or im going to install all from F1 to F14?? really need help tnx!
I bought an MSI P55-GD80. It's still shipping, but my question is this:
Is MSI's m-flash similar to this? I ask because this method of BIOS updating looks amazingly simple and I'm hoping it will be as simple with my MSI board. If not... Well, then I guess I should have bought Gigabyte. DualBIOS with q-flash would make BIOS updating a lot less nerve-racking.
Try to always flash your BIOS under Windows environment It's much safer, in addition you don't need to load the optimal default after BIOS flashing. @BIOS utility makes your job much easier than doing the traditional Q-flash method.
@petercoolsexy This is completely the opposite of the truth. No offense intended. @BIOS has a MUCH higher failure rate than Qflash. I would never use @BIOS. Read up on TweakTown forums. They have Gigabyte reps there who will tell you the same thing. FYI
good video even people like myself who have been tinkering with pc,s and laptops for a decade still need reminding how to "correctly" flash/update a bios and with flash drives/memory sticks this task has become alot easier.. however some older mobo,s dont support usb flash drives so its the floppy method then...arghhh i am buying a Gigabyte GA-M52L-S3P and a AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition so i will probally need to flash the bios .. this video has helped alot good luck
@points2shopPROOF It just needs to be FAT32 (for best results) That's it. I have had some trouble with specific drives. I don't know why....if you do....just use another.
Thanks for the vid I too have this board and I think I will need to flash it. I'm just waiting for my trident 2000 MHz ram to come in buy I'm guessing when I start my rig I will be at F3 or F2 so can I just flash straight to F8 and is flashing the bios really that risky?? From your video it seems straight forward.
!!WARNING!! If there is nothing wrong with you pc/laptop ,like no error no driver problems no any kind of problems at all. Then don't update your BIOS at all. !!WARNING!! go to you pc/laptops brand name website e.g. ( toshiba, asus, sony) and fine your laptop model. then got to driveresoftware updates area. finde the newest BIOS update (if there is one) usually it will tell you what its going to update. like maybe it will update some new sound cards just released, or maybe some bugs fixed.
@mrblackout2000 Yes, if you have no reason to flash.....be very careful. It's not something to do for fun. You should have a need to flash or want to gain the experience.
@Dragstrength Yes, I have seen this before. You need to try another flash drive OR re-format it FAT32 and try again if it's the only one you have. One of mine simply will not work and I don't know why. Yours may be like that one....in that case you may need another one. Even a cheap small one will do fine.
I have the P55A UD3P, and the board's F9 Bios is supposed to update the CPU microcode, and make some modifications to the PCI-E switch on the board; hopefully split the CPU's PCI-E lanes into 4X for the Sata3 and USB3, and 12x for the graphics card.
@radeonfighter Hello, I am only up to F8 on my P55 board. I have not tried F9 yet. For my revision they only have F9c "beta" out. Sorry I cannot answer your question but good luck.
whaat? when i do this i only get the Floppy disk... omfg. I need to update my BIOS i think because it seems like it only support 2gb of ram atm... -_-
is there another way to update the bios? i have tried to do it in windows but it doesnt work, says it dont work on my 64bit??! HELP please? I am a noob at Bios.
@ZoMfgRoflMaoLOL Use a different USB drive OR format the one you have to FAT32. It should work. Some DO NOT work for whateber reason. You just need to purchase a really cheap FAT32 drive and you will be fine. Good luck man!
hey ... iwe just got gigabyte motherboard and it have bios F2... iwe seen on their site there is bios F6 .... can i update F6 over F2 or i need to update F3,F4,F5 first ???? thx.. nice video wery helpfull :)
hey ... iwe just got gigabyte motherboard and it have F2 bios ... i seen on their site that there is F6 ... do u maybe know if i can update to F6 over F2 or i need to update F3,F4 ,F5 first ?? thx.. nice video wery helpfull..
@crniyo Just loading optimised defaults before and after the flash. Using FAT32 USB drive. My video pretty much tells you what to do, but if you have a question, let me know.
hey ... i did flahs bios and everyting was ok ... i did that coz my procesor phenom II 955 3.0 was working on 1.6Ghz and rest was slow also.... now when i did it my processor works on 3.2ghz and when i start game or something computer shut down ... im guessing CPU is overheating or something... should i reinstal windows or what ,,, do u have any idea ?
@crniyo Yes, check to see if the heatsink is fastened correctly if you think it may be a heat issue. Also, your PSU, video card are also suspect if your computer is shutting down under load.
@crniyo A 450W PSU will normally be plenty unless you have a lot of hardware....like multiple fans, hadr drives, and video cards. If the PSU has a problem it may be going bad, but it has enough power I think.
@crniyo I don't think Windows is the problem here, but you could try it. I wish I could diagnose it form here, but it sound like a hardware problem. Maybe run Memtest and see if you RAM has a problem. Run Prime95 to see if it's stable....it sounds like it's not. I would set optomized defaults in the BIOS if you haven't done that. Maybe that will get it stable. All the best
It's obvious mate! Your PSU's 12V rail can't keep up with the system's power consumption when on load. And that's why it's shutting down when you stress the system.
Thanks to the board, you hopefully haven't burnt you main components.
It will work....I'm simply saying the people at Gigabyte say it has a higher failure rate. Go to TweakTown forums in the official Gigabyte forum and ask the Gigabyte reps there. They will tell you the same thing. No big deal, use whatever you wish. All the best.
The Windows based utility has a much higher "bad flash" rate. Something like 200-300% higher. It's your choice, but now you have the information. It's risky.
No, it's not normal. If it says "auto recovering" LET IT GO. It's trying to recover the backup BIOS. DO NOT stop it. You MAY have done something wrong OR had a bad flash. You may want to go to TweakTown forums under Gigabyte and ask for help. Those guys will help you. They represent Gigabyte and will do all they can. Wish you the best, but let that go for a while and see if it recovers.
It IS a procedure you need to read your manufacturers website and perhaps forums to get it right. The settings are not too hard. There are only a few you really need to worry about. It's the "flashing" you need to worry about most. It's the most "dangerous" the settings can be changed later....good luck. I ahve some more "in depth" tutorials I posted under the same user name today. I am still getting part 3 up. Part 1 and 2 are up now. good luck!
Back again..I just flashed it and it worked ! So this is a very helpful tutorial ( Btw i made a mistake,my mb is GA-P35-DS3L not P55 ).Some new options have appeared after the flashing:
Yes, they are Intel CPU "throttling" features. If you are overclocking, I would disable them until you find a stable overclock, but if not....enable them and leave them. They are good features. All the best.
Thanks man,it is very helpful...I'll try to flash my bios later ( GA-p55-ds3L ) :D By the way,how did you make a bootable USB stick? Or you just copied normal the new bios files to the usb drive and that was it ? Thanks again..
The new P55 boards have duo bios so even if you're flashing your board and it shuts down, you don't need to sweat cuz you still have the backup bios which will kick in.
Yes, Gigabyte has had dual bios on all high end boards for years. It is very nice. While you're in the BIOS press F9 and it will show you what version you have in that backup. It will normally keep the default BIOS it came with. Some BIOS files will be set up to flash the back-up and there are ways to flash the back-up to a newer version too.
i tried it says it passed but now wont boot windows what so ever! thats messed up never do this again!

The optimization, for those who asked, is mostly for the overclocking and power tweaks. Good practice to set to defaults with a new BIOS then start your overclocking fresh after that. If you didn't know this you should not be overclocking anyway.

I dont understand, why do you have to load optimized defaults ???
Trip506 1 year ago
@Trip506 It's a safety measure. The Gigabyte pros say to do it. Bad things CAN happen if you don't. Chances are you would be fine not doing it but why take a chance if it only takes a minute. Thats my answer, I asked the Gigabyte pros and that;s what they told me.
nate42nd 1 year ago
@nate42nd Errrm ok well what does doing it actualy do ? just reset the BIOS to factory defaults im guessing in which case it dosnt really matter as their at factory default settings anyway
Also my friend who is pretty good at computers said dont bother doing it
Trip506 1 year ago

@man7tomani You need to use a flash drive, or HD formatted FAT32 or FAT16 (preferably FAT32) That's probably why. Good luck

soulwrithe44 1 year ago
I bought an MSI P55-GD80. It's still shipping, but my question is this:
Is MSI's m-flash similar to this? I ask because this method of BIOS updating looks amazingly simple and I'm hoping it will be as simple with my MSI board. If not... Well, then I guess I should have bought Gigabyte. DualBIOS with q-flash would make BIOS updating a lot less nerve-racking.

@trkka I've never done an MSI board, but they have a good utility from what IO've seen. Good luck.

Try to always flash your BIOS under Windows environment It's much safer, in addition you don't need to load the optimal default after BIOS flashing. @BIOS utility makes your job much easier than doing the traditional Q-flash method.
petercoolsexy 1 year ago

Could i use any usb pen drive or is there a specific one that i need to use?
points2shopPROOF 1 year ago

( toshiba, asus, sony) and fine your laptop model. then got to driveresoftware updates area. finde the newest BIOS update (if there is one) usually it will tell you what its going to update. like maybe it will update some new sound cards just released, or maybe some bugs fixed.
mrblackout2000 1 year ago
@mrblackout2000 Yes, if you have no reason to flash.....be very careful. It's not something to do for fun. You should have a need to flash or want to gain the experience.
nate42nd 1 year ago
@Dragstrength Ah yes.....that is in my "long" version of flashing. All the best
nate42nd 1 year ago
@Dragstrength Yes, I have seen this before. You need to try another flash drive OR re-format it FAT32 and try again if it's the only one you have. One of mine simply will not work and I don't know why. Yours may be like that one....in that case you may need another one. Even a cheap small one will do fine.

Have you tried the latest f9 Bios, mate?
radeonfighter 1 year ago
@radeonfighter Yes, I have. I think it's F10 now. I cannot remember which board this is. If it's the UD3P it's on F10
nate42nd 1 year ago
@nate42nd
I have the P55A UD3P, and the board's F9 Bios is supposed to update the CPU microcode, and make some modifications to the PCI-E switch on the board; hopefully split the CPU's PCI-E lanes into 4X for the Sata3 and USB3, and 12x for the graphics card.
So the Bios is stable?
radeonfighter 1 year ago
@radeonfighter Hello, I am only up to F8 on my P55 board. I have not tried F9 yet. For my revision they only have F9c "beta" out. Sorry I cannot answer your question but good luck.

crniyo 1 year ago
@crniyo Yes, check to see if the heatsink is fastened correctly if you think it may be a heat issue. Also, your PSU, video card are also suspect if your computer is shutting down under load.

@nate42nd
i only have 450w of psu that could be the problem ?
crniyo 1 year ago
@crniyo A 450W PSU will normally be plenty unless you have a lot of hardware....like multiple fans, hadr drives, and video cards. If the PSU has a problem it may be going bad, but it has enough power I think.

@nate42nd
i downloaded program to monitor cpu temperature
and normaly its around 40-45*C but when
i play game it goes over 50-55*C ... i think it
shut down on 60*C ... should i try with
windows reinstal ?
crniyo 1 year ago
@crniyo I don't think Windows is the problem here, but you could try it. I wish I could diagnose it form here, but it sound like a hardware problem. Maybe run Memtest and see if you RAM has a problem. Run Prime95 to see if it's stable....it sounds like it's not. I would set optomized defaults in the BIOS if you haven't done that. Maybe that will get it stable. All the best
nate42nd 1 year ago
@crniyo

I use the server flash utility
ndhudecz 2 years ago
The Windows based utility has a much higher "bad flash" rate. Something like 200-300% higher. It's your choice, but now you have the information. It's risky.

I have a gigabyte motherboard
when i turn on my computer and it start to beep. After that the computer said " Warning: MAIN BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR! "
Then "BIOS Auto-Recovering....." But it keep doing it the same thing everytime i turn on my computer......is it normal?
darkness2121 2 years ago
No, it's not normal. If it says "auto recovering" LET IT GO. It's trying to recover the backup BIOS. DO NOT stop it. You MAY have done something wrong OR had a bad flash. You may want to go to TweakTown forums under Gigabyte and ask for help. Those guys will help you. They represent Gigabyte and will do all they can. Wish you the best, but let that go for a while and see if it recovers.

i am on sevenforum but this look hard updataing
i have the bios disc made but affraid to update incase i do a setting wrong
tzfrantic9999 2 years ago

CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2)
CPU EIST Function
Is it okay if i leave them enabled?
SuspektBeats 2 years ago
Yes, they are Intel CPU "throttling" features. If you are overclocking, I would disable them until you find a stable overclock, but if not....enable them and leave them. They are good features. All the best.

Thanks man,it is very helpful...I'll try to flash my bios later ( GA-p55-ds3L ) :D By the way,how did you make a bootable USB stick? Or you just copied normal the new bios files to the usb drive and that was it ? Thanks again..

The new P55 boards have duo bios so even if you're flashing your board and it shuts down, you don't need to sweat cuz you still have the backup bios which will kick in.
aznvi3tboy209 2 years ago 2
Yes, Gigabyte has had dual bios on all high end boards for years. It is very nice. While you're in the BIOS press F9 and it will show you what version you have in that backup. It will normally keep the default BIOS it came with. Some BIOS files will be set up to flash the back-up and there are ways to flash the back-up to a newer version too.
