  • @tewelltube ah thank you very much and thank you for these videos they have helped me tremendously...

  • Good question. Usually you support the bassoon with the palm of your left hand and particularly with the left hand index finger joints nearest the hand. I also use another method of supporting the bassoon other than the seat strap. I used to had a neck strap but now I am using a harness that goes around my chest and then hooks to the balance hanger on the basoson.

  • I had a question that you could hopefully answer. When I play open F (F3 i believe) I have the problem on the weight of the bassoon pulling forwards and because my hands aren't covering any of the holes I was wondering where do you rest the weight?

  • What song r u playing at the Beggining

  • Thank you for this video! It was very eye-opening for me. I have smaller hands, and you've tought me through this video how to maximize the length I do in my fingers. I never would have thought to give preferences to my joints like that. It makes complete sense! Thank you!

  • This is a very interesting video.... I play the alto and C-melody saxophone. The bassoon looks so confusing but this is a very interesting video to me as ive never really seen a bassoon up close

  • the only time i really ever use half hole is on g and even then when i put my finger center or take it off it sounds the same and wat in the world is f#3

  • For octave designations please see my video "Octave Designations in Music" on Youtube.. I use the common system taught in America, established by the Acoustical Society of America.

i consider the half hole technique essential for proper tuning and articulation. I hear a BIG difference when it is applied.

  • you say in the video that when doing a half hole (for the G above open F for example) , you should not be sliding your left ring finger up and down. why is that? is it to make the movement faster?

  • Sliding bakc and forth is very slow and not well controlled. I work for a technique that is fast and consistent. What happens when you perspire and your finger is sweaty? I think you will lose control.

  • I might be getting a new bassoon this thursday, what bocal should i buy fist, 1 2 or 3

  • Sorry for the late reply. Use the bocal that is best in tune. Most use a Heckel 2 or a Fox 3.

  • how can you make a really clear tone? like a nice clean one? im still learning ;---;

  • I swear these positions are the same as the oboe with a 5th difference (Bassoon F = Oboe C)

  • what's the name of the music you played in the beggining??

  • whenever I play a high a flat it croaks. What can I do to fix that.

  • wait! for the G note... where like you go from your thumb down to a lotta fingers down... can you use the key below the hole you have to cover halfly as a sub and still have the same tone??

  • where can i get one of those neck straps? Because I use a strap that you sit on, and it gets really bothersome to make sure it doesn't get caught on anything and hold my music, and hold my bassoon. Please respond.

  • Many music stores or online music websites have bassoon neck straps. I use both a neck and seat strap for the instrument. I don't publically recommend products but you might just try searching for them online.

  • Do you have any advice on how to play a high A flat then a high B flat with out losing you fingering?

  • when's your birthday?

  • why do you need to know my birthday?

  • because it's my impression! please tell me it,

  • This was a very informative and helpful video. Thank you!

  • As a bassoon player, I gotta say, I rly do not think about it, it is very natural. Anyways, do you use halfhole on the A after open F? Because I really don't but if you are out of tune, it makes it in tune sometimes, also, should you half hole for notes such as High G and A?

  • Typically I don't use the half hole on A3 (above open F). I "flick" the start of A3 to avoid the bad start to the note. I use the half hole on F#3, G3, and Ab3. I do use half hole on G4 (your high G). On G5 (highest G) I don't.

  • Okay. Thanks

  • Yes, I do. It is more comfortable in that position--better ergonomics for me.

  • Great video

    It is very helpful
