  • Former Sandman here: The runner editor totally should have left that scene in.

  • Box: Fish, and plankton. And sea greens, and protein from the sea. It's all here, ready. Fresh as harvest day. Fish and sea greens, plankton and protein from the

  • Sandmen are like cats. They can land on their feet after a 20-foot drop without hurting themselves, losing their balance or losing sight of their target.

  • cool

  • Cool scene. I never knew about it. It certainly would have given the movie a darker feel right from the start. Thanks for posting it. My only problem here is all the arguments and comments on "Gun Laws", Obama & Stuff. What have they got to do with this Clip? What does Obama have to do with this movie? Talk about getting off topic!!!

  • My understanding was that the runner is Jessica's brother. Regardless, it's great to see this here. LONG ago I bought some 35MM film clips (single frames) and a couple of them were from this scene. We search all over trying to find out what it was.

  • nicely edited! good job!!

  • not a black or mexican in site, isn't the future looking great!

  • @dgb751 When faced with extinction, you'll be surprised at how many people will say no to affirmative action. I'm sure the other races were welcome to build their own domes, if they could.

I agree that this scene should've stayed in, and they should've had a couple of sandwomen too.

  • I agree nighflyer the scene should of been left in the Movie

  • So the Sandmen had super agility?

  • That was in the version of the film I've seen, not deleted at all.

  • Shut the fuck up everyone

    Who gives a damn??

Just watch the goddamn video and move on with your goddamn lives...

Christ, no one cares about your Goddam Conservative Sarah Palin lovin, deer huntin paranoia over-exaggerations. And no one gives a shit about a bunch of tree huggers stirring up trouble calling it a revolution/

    move on

  • @mlsku you suck obama ass!

  • @wildhellion1 Totally irrelevant.

  • @mlsku You fuckin Liberal baby killing Comie your liberal party is killing America so fuck you ass!

  • As far as I know, in Chester, England there is an unrepealed law that states that you can legaly shoot a Welsh person within the city walls after dark as long as you do it with a long bow and arrow. Unlike in America, we don't use this as an excuse to walk around armed like members of Robin Hood's gang.

  • You should, then you can shoot out all those damn cameras they have watching you in that police state over there. Join the Conservative Party already.

  • I think you missed the point somewhat, I just mentioned that unrepealed law as an example. Just because you can do it, does not mean you should or you must do it. Are you American? It would explain the silly reply. Join the con-self-servatives? NEVER! Oh, and what has CCTV got to do with the price of fish?

  • In California it's illegal to keep an octopus in a swimming pool. The law is an ass as they say.

  • I wanted to be a sandman when I was a kid back in the 70s.

  • @GarthanSaal444 did you grow up to be a cop?

  • There a really good dvd re-relase that this comes from ??

  • This scene did appear in the Marvel Comic adaptation of the movie. Nice.

  • They must have gun control in Dome city. Only the Sandmen have blasters.

  • This is a good argument for 2nd ammendment rights! The Dome city is the perfect liberal/socialist vision of the future. It's coming now, thanks to Obama!

  • But, we'll still get fish and plankton, sea greens and protein from the sea right?

  • Right!

    :)

  • DallasHammster: you need to read what the founding fathers qrote about gun ownership, since there iss o much confusion about what the "militia" term means. Basically it supports private gun ownership at all times. Also, why is it htat for almost 200 years no one challenged the rights of individuals to own firearms? It wasn't until 1968 that they decided to changethe meaning of the 2nd ammendment. Check the facts!

  • Guess thats why there is so much gun crime in USA? saying that with USA sticking their nose in our country (England) its getting similar to US now.

Right to bear arms may have been well though 200 odd years ago , but so was fox hunting here in England , it aitn now.

    Not everyone should have guns

  • Yes, ther eis gun crime, but there is also knife crime, car crime, rtock crime, etc. Should we outlaw all pointy objects too? Yet the founders beleived it was ESSENTIAL for a populace to be able to defend their rights, each one. Fox hunting is irrelevant. Read some history, bro. It'll do you good!

  • I can see what you mean , we may become a totally cottoned wool planet.

But how many mass killing crimes are made with guns in the world , far too many.

When your 'founders' made their beliefs, they were living in a world which wasnt as crazed as it is today or the sizes of populations now.

Just as plenty of British laws need a big kick up the ass to move into the MODERN world as it is , so do other countries too (not just USA)

Traditions change and so should laws to represent the present day.

  • Funny, I thought US is becoming more like that fluffy foo foo UK police state you have. Join your Conservative Party already.

  • If fluffy means we dont get ready to draw guns on each other (in the main) , then thank God.

  • 2nd Amendment explicitly states:

"the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed".

  • Homeland Bill, The Patriot act etc. have turned America into apolice state and on of the least 'free' countries on the planet. The revision of the Patriot act that was finally pushed through at 2.00 in the morning WASN'T READ/CHECKED BY ANYBODY. That's not democracy friends. Holding on for dear life to a constitution is as useful as holding onto the exact wording of a 2000 year old 'book'.

  • The purpose is that the US shouldn't have it own Armed Forces or National Guard under it own consitutution. Instead, the militla made up of the local community are armed and shall protect the town freedom. It also mean the government cannot used armed force against it own people. However most people don't understand the politics and only listen to the sound bites!!

  • Is it true that the U.S. constitution was suspended in 1933 due to national bankruptcy and has since been operating under Emergency War Powers ?

  • @Nautilus1972 - You are probably thinking of the February 28 Decree that gave Hitler the right to enact laws that would otherwise violate the German Constitution. He used Article 48 and a false spectre of Communist terrorism to justify this. It gave him unlimited power to get rid of people he didn't like- pretty handy when you're a despot.

  • You fool! Read it and weep. The 2nd Ammendment, "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." It explicitly states "the right of the People". In the war of independence it was the People that organized to fight the English Militia.

  • When Francis makes that jump, it makes my fucking knees and lower back ache like a sonofabitch--nothing that a good whiff of that gaseous cloud dope won't cure, I guess...

  • The whole point was to have a closeup on the dead runner's hand and his red crystal, which would have turned into the baby's hand with the clear crystal. Would have been a pretty effective scene; They should have left it in.

  • thanks, nightflyer. i didn't know that.

  • and it was to give the viewer a sense of how ruthless the character Francis 7 was...as he was to eventually forced to hunt down his friend Logan 5, the hero of the movie.

  • HAHAHA. Die Runner. Serves you right for braking the law.

  • KILL THAT RUNNER!

  • Did you guys know the city scenes (elevator, etc.) was shot at Eastridge Mall in San Jose, CA?

The city is a mall...by the looks of things look s like at Christmas rush (LOL)...no really it was shot in a shopping mall.

  • Actually...

it was the Dallas Market Mall...in Dallas, Texas.

  • Yah you are right. I think the guy meant to say Eastridge Mall in San Jose was used in one of the Logan's Run Series episodes, not the movie. He was half right, but half wrong :)

  • Was that Richard Jordan? It looked like him

  • Yes, it WAS... In the original cut of the film Richard (as Francis 7) is the first main-character to appear on screen... It also served to reinforce his cold and relentless dedication to the 'System' as a Sandman (even though initially 'cryptic' to the audience, you would remember this later as the story developed - it was designed to 'shock', and get your attention!)...

  • It would explain his conversations later with Logan, when Francis begins to sense that his partner is starting to question "the way things have always been - one-for-one; one is terminated, one is born - simple, logical, PERFECT"...

Yeah... It would have made a lot more sense to have left this material in, but unfortunately, that was not to be the case!

  • Bill, when are you going to re-enter the world of fandom? People ask about you all the time on the fan pages. Im working on an LR fanfilm (Im in LA)and would LOVE to have you involved. I remember the 23d Century Emproium :) I dropped you a line here once before but NADA..its time to Renew!

  • I really don't see anything more I could contribute that hasn't already been said...

Simply saw all these glaring errors while searching for something else, and thought I'd take a few moments to correct them - since I was actually THERE, involved and such...

And, of course, THAT - and $4.00 frickin' bucks these days - will barely get you a 'Starbucks'...

  • Good to see you still around Bill. I miss the days of RUNS at cons..hell, I miss the good old days period...

  • So... nope, 'sorry' (or perhaps not so much)... Aside from that (what's already been posted), there is no point; I've finally reached the conclusion that after 40 years of 'Talking Apes', and almost 32 of 'Running Humans' (and getting screwed on BOTH) it's time to hang up the 'one note tune' - there's only so much you can 'carve out' of either species and still have something in the way of 'fresh meat' left on the carcass, so-to-speak...

  • I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't include me in any further 'fan-site'/'fan-page' discussions without my explicit approval (which will NOT come, as I've grown quite tired of all the mis-quotes and misinformation propagated at these damn rumor-mills) - this information no longer has any significant relevance to anything that I can personally think of in any event...

When I freely offered this stuff noboby wanted it - and it's no different now...

Kindly let it be - Thanks.

    Good Luck.

  • That last part SHOULD have read:

When I freely offered this stuff noboby wanted it - ACCURATELY & FACTUALLY - and it's no different now...

Kindly let it be - Thanks.

    Good Luck.

  • Damn it; I'll get this right yet...

That last part SHOULD have read:

When I freely offered this stuff NOBODY wanted it - ACCURATELY & FACTUALLY THAT IS - and it's no different now...

Kindly let it be - Thanks.

    Good Luck.

  • This original opening sequence was DESIGNED to be somewhat mysterious, cryptic, and to MAKE you ask questions...

It IS in proper context - These questions ARE answered QUITE CLEARLY by events later in the film... It is also a little closer in tune with the way the Nolan & Johnson book opens...

Please see the posts left at "GREATHALL75"'s Site for full explanations...

I worked on/in this film and promoted it.

  • lol. you're right...it doesn't make sense, haha. this was supposed to be right before Logan 5 was looking at the baby?

  • Wow! I thought that footage was lost in a MGM fire or something! where did you get it?

  • Nope... A fire would have made things 'simple' - then we could be SURE the footage is REALLY gone - that would have ended it all there...

Actually, it's a lot more complex than that: After the 'Sneak-Preview" in Dan Diego, California, the film was returned to MGM for more editing, based - ONLY IN PART - on audience response. It was re-cut, and shortened in length from the original approx 2:20, to the current 2:00 hrs.

  • Saul David, the Producer, was in conflict with the Studio about being over-budget as well, along with some other creative-disagreement aspects of the film...

In short, the Studio sort of [partially] took it away from him, and had a 'hired-gun' editor, Louis Racknil, re-cut the film. The excised footage was supposed to be stored in a can in the MGM film vault...

  • Later, after the film proved to be a success - with a VERY strong 'cult following' - Saul went back to locate the removed/stored film for a possible Restoration/Director's Cut (w/Michael Anderson), and found that it had COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED!

  • Many have searched for it, but in all these years, it has never, ever, resurfaced... The last time I was involved, I had contacted Ted Turner when he had acquired the MGM Studios, AND the Film Library - "Logan's Run" was one of the titles included with the acquisitions...

  • He immediately put his restoration people on it, but they never found any of the missing materials either (I received a letter from Turner's top guy to this effect)... Believe me: Turner was a fan of the movie (he obtained the TV series for showing on his networks too!) - If anyone would have wanted to find that footage, it would have been him; so NONE of this is for a lack of trying...

  • The footage you're looking at here was NOT 'found' - quite the contrary - it's been 'hiding' in plain sight all along: It was assembled from the original theatrical trailers, 'featurettes' & documentaries, in which this was ALL included before the final 'Racknil' cut of the actual feature itself...

This is why the screen-ratios/formats keep changing - because of the extraction of the footage from the various sources used for different types of venue/presentation...

  • And the SOUND was extracted from a 'bootleg' audio recording of the soundtrack of the then as-yet UNCUT version of the film shown at that 'Sneak...' in San Diego, that I mentioned earlier -- A FAN HAD LITERALLY 'SMUGGLED' AN AUDIO CASSETTE TAPE RECORDER INTO THE THEATER... CURRENTLY, THIS IS BELIEVED TO BE THE ONLY KNOWN AUDIO-RECORD OF THE COMPLETE FILM'S SOUNDTRACK THAT'S MANAGED TO SURVIVE. It's become almost legendary amongst "Logan's Run" Fans EVERYWHERE!!

  • Because of the loss of this footage/valuable history of the film, this explains why you've never seen a Director's Cut in any of the Home Video & DVD releases thusfar, including the new ones from Warner Bros. Home Video, who have since acquired the rights of the film (and the MGM Library) from Turner...

ALL VERY SAD & MOST UNFORTUNATE... BUT ABSOLUTELY TRUE!!

I hope this information provided helps clear up some of the controversy.

  • Sorry... I MEANT, "SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA", above.

  • I'd love to see the remaining 20 minutes or at least have them described to me. Wasn't there a longer Box scene where logan and jessica are made to pose nude and kiss before Box freezes them?

  • Runner gotta learn not to run. Stupid runner.

  • sandman shot a runner

  • Nice find.
