peta's logic is broken. their website says that all cats should be indoor cats. and windows are the perfect tv for kitties and that they can happily watch a bird for hours. i beg to differ. i've owned cats. they know that bird's just waiting for them. they love the outdoors. they may not live as long, but they'll be happier. and just because you're a vegetarian/vegan doesn't mean your cat has to be. cat's are carnivores by default. taking that away from a cat is like taking milk from a baby.

On one hand we suggest "all hunters are responsible" and when presented with things like the 60+ yard bow shot I mentioned non-hunters tar us all with that brush and we look unreasonable.
On the other we address the problem, present the reality of responsible hunting and when anti-hunters say we're all savages THEY look unreasonable.
Gotta say, I find sport hunting kinda distasteful (I'm of an "eat what you kill" POV) but if the kill doesn't end up wasted, and instead the "sport" is used as harvest (slaughter, in domestic husbandry terms), the shots are taken responsibly (that is, right conditions, position and range) and cleanly (accuracy) I can accept it.
Don't get me wrong, I actually agree with (good) hunting... but I've seen footage of a dying deer where the (bow) hunter claimed to have made the shot from 60+ yards. Not all of the hunting community is so careful as you. The answer is (as I'm sure you'll agree) education - not prohibition - but let's not claim more than we can back up.
Hunting is not bad, but there ARE bad hunters with no respect or compassion for their prey, and that's something we should address.
I'm an ex-vegetarian who has no problem with (good) hunting (skilled hunters with good fieldcraft and clean kills) but I find it warming that animal rights activists who have eyes open also find PETA to be a sickening organisation.

I'm glad more and more folks are speaking out against PETA. I used to volunteer for them when they were in Rockville, MD years ago and ever since they moved to Norfolk they've gotten progressively worse. They never speak about saving animals and this is very disturbing considering the amount of money they collect annually in donations. They'll never get a dime of my money.
I agree with the woman at the end that it is not our right to kill. However, it is also not our right to continue over-breeding our domesticated pets and abandoning them if we can't sell them. They ARE living creatures and when abandoned they WILL try to survive. This all comes with a price tag with native wildlife paying the bill. For every feral cat, there are between 200-400 deaths to native wildlife per year. And that doesn't include the effects of over-competition within the ecosystem.
I ABSOLUTELY agree with the woman who spoke at the end; it is not our right to kill animals. I did not know that Peta did such things. But they also did some good undercover exposing stories, like the fur industry in China. I wish that Peta stops euthanise these animals even when a lot of other shelters also do this. PETA is not an organization that I would ever give money to, but they in no way increase the number of animals that are euthanized each year. Year after year after year, the number of cats and dogs born ALWAYS exceeds the number of homes for them.

Under Prop B, responsible breeders will no longer be allowed to buy & administer their own shots/meds. Necessary shots are already costly--but the law would require breeders to load up all their puppies and travel to the vet for EVERY necessary shot/med--exposing young unprotected puppies to needless travel and diseases at the vet clinics. Many vets charge an office call per visit--more needless expenses for reputable breeders already struggling to provide quality puppies at an affordable price

They do see a difference between humans and animals that makes humane euthanasia sometimes permissible for healthy animals, but not for healthy humans (though perhaps for unhealthy ones - for instance, someone dying of cancer). Most animal rights proponents would see it as wrong for both animals and humans, or that it's only okay for the animal in cases that would be similar to when it's okay for humans.
I'm not sure about this particular instance, but what is PETA supposed to do with all the animals that they rescue that they have no homes for? One possible criticism would be to put less money into social advocacy and more into building shelters, etc. but it's valid to question whether this would be the best solution.
I'm not defending PETA, I'm just saying it's not really clear to me that this is not a necessary evil of the work that they do. If there are no homes to take animals in...

As far as I can tell in all my research PETA doesn't normally accept animals if they can be hehomed, they are referred to the appropriate shelter agencies. They usually only accept animals with no alternatives with the understanding that the last resort is humane euthaneasia. It would be silly to try and say Hospice for example was doing something wrong because most of their clients die. My dad worked in a lab where they were testing on rats(medically ofc) and PETA broke into said lab and released hundreds of genetically pure rats. For those of you that don't know, that means that they have..I guess you could say no immune system...they don't have to deal with diseases like a wild rat might. After releasing these rats they all died.

Many pet owners treat their pets like close family. They protect them from some of the harsher parts of life, and some pets have even saved owners or kids from burning houses and other accidents.

@nriggs1000 The reason I mentioned bad hunters is I think it's better to acknowledge problems and deal with them properly rather than deny them altogether.
On one hand we suggest "all hunters are responsible" and when presented with things like the 60+ yard bow shot I mentioned non-hunters tar us all with that brush and we look unreasonable.
On the other we address the problem, present the reality of responsible hunting and when anti-hunters say we're all savages THEY look unreasonable.

Gotta say, I find sport hunting kinda distasteful (I'm of an "eat what you kill" POV) but if the kill doesn't end up wasted, and instead the "sport" is used as harvest (slaughter, in domestic husbandry terms), the shots are taken responsibly (that is, right conditions, position and range) and cleanly (accuracy) I can accept it.

Don't get me wrong, I actually agree with (good) hunting... but I've seen footage of a dying deer where the (bow) hunter claimed to have made the shot from 60+ yards. Not all of the hunting community is so careful as you. The answer is (as I'm sure you'll agree) education - not prohibition - but let's not claim more than we can back up.
Hunting is not bad, but there ARE bad hunters with no respect or compassion for their prey, and that's something we should address.

It's funny how common ground can come about.
I'm an ex-vegetarian who has no problem with (good) hunting (skilled hunters with good fieldcraft and clean kills) but I find it warming that animal rights activists who have eyes open also find PETA to be a sickening organisation.
We may disagree on the path to take to (or indeed the destination of) proper relationship between humans and animals - but I'm glad we can agree on this.

I was shocked!! How dare they? They have become another reason why it's so hard for me to trust people these days. I'm glad more and more folks are speaking out against PETA. I used to volunteer for them when they were in Rockville, MD years ago and ever since they moved to Norfolk they've gotten progressively worse. They never speak about saving animals and this is very disturbing considering the amount of money they collect annually in donations. They'll never get a dime of my money.

I agree with the woman at the end that it is not our right to kill. However, it is also not our right to continue over-breeding our domesticated pets and abandoning them if we can't sell them. They ARE living creatures and when abandoned they WILL try to survive. This all comes with a price tag with native wildlife paying the bill. For every feral cat, there are between 200-400 deaths to native wildlife per year. And that doesn't include the effects of over-competition within the ecosystem.

PETA is not an organization that I would ever give money to, but they in no way increase the number of animals that are euthanized each year. Year after year after year, the number of cats and dogs born ALWAYS exceeds the number of homes for them.
If you want to demonize anyone, it has to be the people that allow their pets to reproduce or actively encourage it, especially since PETA performs spay and neuter surgeries at no cost. Blaming PETA for cats and dogs being killed is just plain naive.

Under Prop B, responsible breeders will no longer be allowed to buy & administer their own shots/meds. Necessary shots are already costly--but the law would require breeders to load up all their puppies and travel to the vet for EVERY necessary shot/med--exposing young unprotected puppies to needless travel and diseases at the vet clinics. Many vets charge an office call per visit--more needless expenses for reputable breeders already struggling to provide quality puppies at an affordable price

They do see a difference between humans and animals that makes humane euthanasia sometimes permissible for healthy animals, but not for healthy humans (though perhaps for unhealthy ones - for instance, someone dying of cancer). Most animal rights proponents would see it as wrong for both animals and humans, or that it's only okay for the animal in cases that would be similar to when it's okay for humans.

I'm not sure about this particular instance, but what is PETA supposed to do with all the animals that they rescue that they have no homes for? One possible criticism would be to put less money into social advocacy and more into building shelters, etc. but it's valid to question whether this would be the best solution.
I'm not defending PETA, I'm just saying it's not really clear to me that this is not a necessary evil of the work that they do. If there are no homes to take animals in...

As far as I can tell in all my research PETA doesn't normally accept animals if they can be hehomed, they are referred to the appropriate shelter agencies. They usually only accept animals with no alternatives with the understanding that the last resort is humane euthaneasia. It would be silly to try and say Hospice for example was doing something wrong because most of their clients die. Those idiots with the van did that under their own steam, I hope they pay. crazy people are everywhere

My dad worked in a lab where they were testing on rats(medically ofc) and PETA broke into said lab and released hundreds of genetically pure rats. For those of you that don't know, that means that they have..I guess you could say no immune system...they don't have to deal with diseases like a wild rat might. After releasing these rats they all died.

PETA hasnt slowed down its hypocritical killing machine one bit, but it keeps browbeating the rest of society with a phony animal rights message, PETA is more concerned about funding its advertising and media antics than finding suitable homes for needy cats and dogs.
Despite its $33 million annual budget, PETA does not operate an adoption shelter. PETA employees make no discernible effort to find homes for the thousands of animals they kill every year.

Many pet owners treat their pets like close family. They protect them from some of the harsher parts of life, and some pets have even saved owners or kids from burning houses and other accidents.
